All are encouraged to receive from the chalice or with bread alone, and to refrain from intinction (dipping the wafer in the chalice). NURSERY for children (up to 3yrs old) in room 302 of the Parish Hall, during the 10am service. COLLECT: Almighty God, who inspired Luke the physician to proclaim the love and healing power of your Son, give your Church, by the grace of the Spirit and the medicine of the gospel, the same love and power to heal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS: God of compassion, you are a strong tower for all who trust in you. Be now and evermore our defence, that we may proclaim the only name under heaven given for health and salvation, the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. LUKE SERVERS SUNDAY Today at the 10:00 service we recognize the important ministry of Serving with the installation of new members and the renewal of commitment for all Altar Servers. We are excited to be installing Ava Walker-Edwards, Brenndon Rogers, Mallory Stewart and Olivia Walker-Edwards as new Altar Servers into the St. Luke s Servers Guild. Welcome and congratulations to all! Head Server David Micks and the Clergy would like to thank ALL of the members of the Altar Servers Guild for their hard work and dedication. Congratulations to Alleyne Parks who will receive the Order of Niagara on Sunday October 28 at 4pm at our Cathedral in Hamilton. NEWSLETTER DEADLINE -for the December, January and February edition of the St. Luke s Newsletter is Fri. Nov. 9. This edition covers the very important Christmas season. INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY Since 1993, October 17th of each year has been designated by the United Nations to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries - a need that has become a development priority. The theme for this year s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty -- Working together out of poverty -- highlights the need for a truly global anti-poverty alliance, one in which both developed and developing countries participate actively. Please pray for those throughout the world who live in poverty and those who work tirelessly to find solutions.

4 CHRISTMAS MARKET UPDATE * Saturday, November 24th * CHRISTMAS MARKET COUNTDOWN 6 WEEKS! **NOTE CHANGE IN LOCATION** Monday, October 15th at 7:30pm in the **Church Basement** PLANNING MEETING - if you are in charge of a table or area or wish to help out. Parlour Treasures Thank you for sharing your valued treasures of crystal, china, linens, silver, jewellery, etc. They are all needed to attract our many buyers who rank us #1. Sunday Nov. 11 is the drop off day in the Parlour immediately after the 10 am service. If you are not able to bring your items then, please call Elaina Wittig at to make alternate arrangements. Thank you for putting aside some of your summer produce for our deli table so we can sell your delicious jams, pickles, and preserves. We need your knitted items for children & adults including sweaters, mittens, scarves & hats. Hand sewn items & crafts are also needed. Our Children s Table (ages 4 to 8) needs donations of reasonably priced small trinket such as small toys, small books, etc. Our dry soup makers need glass quart Mason jars & Christmas fabric pieces. While Heather is away, contact Cathy Payne for drop off. Think about manning a table during coffee hour to sell raffle tickets or take some with you to sell to your neighbours, co-workers, friends. Help will also be needed the week before & day of the market so if you can help please contact the Market Coordinators. Sign up sheet in hall during coffee hour. 5 ArtHouse Burlington Benefit Concert A Canadian Tour de Force!! Saturday October 27th at 7:30 pm at St. Luke's featuring Clarinetist Ross Wooldridge and his "Benny Goodman Sextet and our very special guest artist Canada's Sweetheart of Swing, Jazz singer Alex Pangman Tickets are $25.00 each and are available at coffee hour and from the office. ArtHouse - Enriching Children and Strengthening Communities with cost-free Arts Programs. A HUGE THANK YOU to all involved in our 178th Anniversary Celebration. The potluck dinner was delicious, the music enjoyable; the silent auction items were outstanding! Special thanks to Group A for the hors d oeuvres and to the Men s Cooking Group for the main course. A FUN TIME WAS HAD BY ALL! PWRDF CHRISTMAS CARDS will be for sale at coffee hour. All proceeds go the support the important work of the Primate s World Relief and Development Fund. $15. per package with a tax receipt issued for the full amount. TOURTIERES FOR SALE Pies will be for sale today in the Parish Hall. The large pies will be $17.00 and the small 6 pies will be $6.00 This is a pre-market sale and the next sale of pies will be at the Christmas Market. Taizé Night Prayer Taizé is a meditative form of prayer that provides a place and a space to take time out of our frenzied schedules to rest and to be. Laudate, the musical group who were with us in June, has agreed to do one more event: Friday, November 2, 7:30 pm in the church. All are welcome - if you didn t come last time, try to come in November and bring a friend!

Mark your calendars for Saturday October 27 th as we are having our first Book Sale. Come have a coffee, browse the selection & enjoy. If you have books that you would like to donate, please contact Paulette Finch at (PLEASE, do not bring them to the office there is no place to store them. Thank you ) The Great Fall Hymn Sing Music at St. Luke's presents the Great Fall Hymn Sing in the church on Sunday November 4th at 3.00pm. This year's hymn sing features the choirs of West Plains United Church, plus St. Matthew's and St. Luke's Anglican Churches. The title of this year's hymn sing is "Royal Hymns & Anthems" featuring music performed at various royal functions. Tickets for the event will be for sale at coffee or by at keithanita@sympatico.ca or by phone at Ticket prices are $8.00 Seniors & Students, $10.00 for general admission.
