We have jobs for different time slots and interests. The lunches are held on the first, third, and fifth Wednesdays of the month from the third week of September until the first week of June. For information contact Heather White at and/or attend the meeting. Speakers Lunch Group The first meeting of the Speakers Lunch Group 2017/18 season is on Thursday September 14th when Mary Lou Tanner, Burlington s Director of Planning & Building, will be speaking about the City s long term planning, as it relates to the aging population. The aim of the Speakers Lunch group is to foster awareness among parishioners of happenings & endeavours in the wider community that may be worthy of interest & support. The group meets at 11:30 am on the second Thursday of each month for social time, followed by a Bring Your Own Lunch & a talk by the speaker of the month. All are welcome. Please call Bill at for more information about the group. LET S GET ENGAGED! It s going to take more than the efforts of the nine committee members charged with delivering our mission statement: Identify and engage existing and potential new members of St. Luke s using an array of tools, resources, people and processes by creating a culture of inclusiveness, friendliness and spirituality. Just as we looked to individuals in our congregation for their opinions on ways to grow our parish, everyone will be encouraged to engage in our growth plan. As a start, and on the recommendation of one of our focus group participants, we have changed our committee s name from Membership to Engagement. All are invited to get engaged at Coffee Hour on September 17. ALLERGY ALERT We have a number of parishioners with scent allergies, so we are reminding people to please refrain from wearing any perfume or perfumed products to church. Thank you for your consideration for those who suffer in this way.

6 Circle of Friends: Great opportunity for a Volunteer You can be involved with helping socially-isolated older adults of our community. Circle of Friends (CoF) is an important outreach of the Burlington Downtown churches, including St. Luke s, and hosted by Burlington Baptist Church. CoF needs more volunteers. There are several areas where help is needed. Drivers transport participants to and from the Wednesday event and may stay and enjoy the meal and conversation with the participants and other volunteers. Folk can sign up to drive every Wed or if that is not possible to drive every other Wed. It is understood that volunteers do need times off for other appointments and CoF can be flexible in the assignment. The time commitment is from about 11am to 2 pm starting September 6, There are other opportunities e.g. preparing the desserts for one of the meals, computer skills to help with scheduling, assistance with program development. Orientation is provided. Please contact Heather White or Mae Radford if you have a question and/or if you want to help. INFORMATION UPDATING We are updating our contact information and need your help. We would like to have emergency contact information, which is particularly important for those who live on their own. This contact should be someone we can call should a medical problem happen during a service or at one of our social events. If there is a family member or close friend you would like added to your information as a contact, please let the office know their name and phone number. Please phone office or by to office@stlukesburlington.ca KEEPING IN TOUCH If you notice that a parishioner who usually attends our services hasn t been here for a while, or you know them to be sick or in hospital, please contact the office with the name so that we can contact them. Have a suggestion/comment? Please use the suggestion box in the Narthex. Be assured that all suggestions & comments are directed to the appropriate person or group, but we can only provide feedback if you include your name/contact info.
