Please speak with the Verger if you would like to use one. Please return them to the Verger following the service.

2 WE WELCOME NEWCOMERS & VISITORS and invite you to participate fully in our worship this morning. You are welcome to come to the Altar Rail or station to receive communion or a blessing. All are encouraged to receive from the chalice or with bread alone, and to refrain from intinction (dipping the wafer in the chalice). NURSERY for children (up to 3yrs old) in room 302 of the Parish Hall during the 10:00am service. COLLECT: Inviting God, laying open your table to those without status or power, and setting a place for the foreign and the unwanted: overturn our tables of power and teach us to receive bread from strange and wounded hands; through Jesus Christ, the one given for all. Amen PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS: Merciful God, as grains of wheat scattered upon the hills were gathered together to become one bread, so let your church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into your kingdom, for yours is the glory through Jesus Christ, now and for ever. Amen PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION: O God, our life, our strength, our food, we give you thanks for sustaining us with the body and blood of your Son. By your Holy Spirit, enliven us to be his body in the world, so that more and more we will praise you and serve your earth and its many peoples, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. We are delighted to bring more joy into the lives of our seniors. Your help was greatly appreciated. Thank You. Lesley and Martha NEXT WEEKEND Burlington's Rib Fest (Sept 4-7) This is our chance to open our doors of our church once again to the community during that weekend. We have many people come through to take a look, to stop and meditate and to marvel at the beauty of our church which is a great way to connect with our community. We need your help and if you can provide a shift of three hours to be a "minder" during either Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday, please call Janice Skafel at or at the.skafels@sympatico.ca. Shifts are 2-5 p.m. and 5-8p.m. each day. ************************** ALSO The City of Burlington posts TEMPORARY EMERGENCY NO STOPPING ANYTIME signs on streets surrounding the church (Elgin, Burlington & Nelson). This action ensures that the street width is free & clear for all emergency vehicle access along with their equipment. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PARK! Through the generosity of our Vergers and the funds generated by their conference, we have been able to complete two projects; The basement windows in the church have been replaced with high quality windows manufactured by Pollard. This not only enhances the appearance, but greatly improves the energy efficiency. An automatic door opener has been installed in the accessible washroom in the parish hall and now this washroom is fully accessible. Thank you Vergers!

In a world that is filled with noise it is good to have a place where quiet is respected and conversation is not required. Come and Pray With Us in the stillness of a candlelit hour. Music at St. Luke s announces its 2016/17 season. Some call it Burlington s "Best-Kept Secret. For $110 you can enjoy 4 quality evenings of entertainment with a delicious catered dinner. We hope you will become a season subscriber this year. Oct. 1 we welcome Stuart Laughton and his Radio Dial band. Stuart is a local trumpeter and all-round musician, skilled in many instruments. He is a founding member of Canadian Brass. An upbeat intelligent performer, we know you will have a wonderful evening enjoying the band s repertoire of roots, blues, country and jazz. Nov. 26 is our Celtic Music evening with the Allison Lupton trio, playing traditional and contemporary folk songs. Allison played regularly on CBC s Max Ferguson Show. Shane Cook is a Canadian fiddle champion. Ian Bell is a Canadian folk veteran. Feb. 11 we welcome back Jim Heaslip and the 12/4 Swing Orchestra with Tony Sciara and Part II of their Frank Sinatra tribute, featuring Pennies From Heaven, The Way You Look Tonight, Luck Be a Lady etc. Bring your dancing shoes or just sit back and enjoy.. May 6 will bring us to our concluding event, a tribute to the songs and scenes from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, directed by Paul and Carole Pizzolante and performed by a cast of our talented parishioners. A feast for the eyes and ears! All events include dinner. The cost for an individual evening is $35. Jeff Ward, a Halton Poverty Roundtable member, will help us understand how this cross-sector group is committed to eliminating poverty in Halton by mobilizing the community to ensure that all of our neighbours will thrive. 6 Speakers Lunch Group In case you have forgotten over the summer, the aim of the Speakers Lunch group is to foster awareness among parishioners of happenings & endeavours in the wider community that may be worthy of interest & support. The group meets at 11:30 am on the second Thursday of each month for social time, followed by a Bring Your Own Lunch & a talk by the speaker of the month. Everyone is welcome bring your friends and neighbours! Our first meeting of the St. Luke s Speakers Lunch Group for the 2016/17 season is at 11.30am on Thursday September 8 when Melodie Campbell will share with us her life as a stand up comedian and crime writer. Melodie s talk is entitled The History of Humour SUMMER OFFICE HOURS: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9am to 3:30pm. CLOSED MONDAY AND FRIDAY OPEN CHURCH HOURS: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9:30am to 12:30pm. CLOSED MONDAY AND FRIDAY Next Trip to Serve El Hogar! If you ve been thinking about going to Honduras to serve El Hogar s children & would like more information about what s involved & the commitments required, please join us on Thursday, Sept. 15 th at 7:30 pm in the board room. Our next trip is scheduled for April 22 29, We will discuss El Hogar s mission and goals, team members obligations and expectations both financial & personal, as well as the work involved as we prepare for the trip, while we are in Honduras, and after our return. Stamina, flexibility, a sense of humour & the ability to be involved over a period of 8 months from pre to post trip, are essential. The rewards of service there and how this can be a life-changing experience will also be discussed. Please bring any questions you may have about this wonderful project.
