5 The Nicene Creed Celebrant ALL Let us Confess our faith, as we say, We believe in one God, the Father, Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures: he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 6 ALL: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Proper Preface Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of heaven and earth; we give you thanks and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, because in the fellowship of Saint Luke and all your saints you have given us a glorious pledge of the hope of our calling. Therefore we join our voices with theirs as earth and heaven unite to proclaim the glory of your name. ALL: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. (At this time, please feel free to remain standing, sit or kneel for the remainder of the prayer) We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made Flesh, Jesus your Son. For in the last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, a death he freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

8 After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. ALL: Therefore, Father, according to his command, we remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory; and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, That they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. All: Amen. As our Saviour taught us, let us pray, Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

9 For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Silence The Breaking of Bread Behold what you are. May we become what we receive. The Gifts of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. All are welcome to receive the sacrament or a blessing. If you wish to receive the sacrament, you may receive the bread alone or the bread with wine from the chalice. Please refrain from intinction (dipping the bread into the cup.) Gluten-free bread is available request it when you come to receive. Living God, may we who have shared in these holy mysteries enjoy health of body and mind, and witness faithfully to your gospel, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Doxology ALL: Glory to God, whose power working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen. The Blessing

11 YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS Sunday October 21st, We will be going to see Bruce Kuhn (Broadway actor) perform a oneman show of The Gospel of Luke at Philpott Memorial Church in Hamilton. 7:00-8:00pm. CHRISTMAS MARKET It is that time of year again and the Christmas Marketeers are hard at work making and baking. Please come by our table at coffee hour where you can place an order for poinsettias and wreaths. Payment should be made with your order. Closing date for orders is November 18th. 12 St. Luke's Annual Parish Dinner and Silent Auction Saturday, October 27th, 2018 Doors open at 5:30pm Hors D oeuvres at 6:00pm Potluck Dinner at 6:30pm Registration will take place at Coffee Hour. ALL SOULS SERVICE Friday Nov. 2nd, 5pm God willing, we shall be observing the solemnity of All Souls' on Fri. Nov. 2nd, at 5pm. If the weather is fair, we will process outside in the cemetery, also sprinkling the graves by the way with holy water, and holding several stations for prayer, scriptural readings, and hymn singing. If the weather is not favorable, we will gather in the church proper, for a service which will include candlelight prayer, scriptural readings, and hymn singing. The service should last under one hour. The liturgy is drawn from the 1962 Book of Common Prayer, and the hymns are classical Anglican hymnody. If you have any questions, please speak to Leonel, our parish Pastoral Associate GIVINGS HORSE RACE Each week we will update how our general offerings are doing relative to budget. It ll look like a slow-motion horse race which will last all year! Here are our current numbers as of Oct 14th. Each week, the budget for givings is $7, Budget Actual Difference Last Week $7, $7, $ Year to Date $321, $309, $12, We were just slightly below our weekly goal for last week, but we are carrying a significant deficit from through the Summer. As next week is our 184th anniversary, would you consider giving an extra $184 as a special gift to celebrate all that St. Luke s means to you? However you give, we thank you for your support so far and for your continued commitment to the ministry and mission of St. Luke s through your financial support, your prayers, and the giving of your time and yourself. May God bless all we are able to accomplish in 2018 through your support.

NEWSLETTER DEADLINE The deadline for the WINTER issue of the St. Luke s newsletter is MON., OCTOBER 29TH This issue covers the months of December, January & February. Please your submission to newsletter@stlukesburlington.ca If you do not use , you may drop it off at the church office. ***Sorry, but no late submissions will be accepted.*** PWRDF Earthquake & Typhoon Aid Needed PWRDF is responding to two ongoing disasters: the earthquake in Indonesia and the typhoon in the Philippines. ACT Alliance is ready to respond, providing health services, distributing food and non-food items to 500 affected households in the coming days. PWRDF supports this effort with $20,000. PWRDF longstanding development partner in the Philippines, Cordillera People s Alliance, will provide emergency food rations to 400 of the most affected households in Benguet province. More than 200 community-based organizations are mobilizing volunteers to respond. PWRDF has contributed $13,000. The National Council of Churches in the Philippines, with help of $20,000 from PWRDF, will provide food baskets to 4,500 disaster-affected households, hygiene kits to 1,000 households, shelter repair kits to 500 damaged homes, and corn, rice and vegetable seeds to 1,500 households. We would like to have emergency contact information, which is particularly important for those who live on their own. This contact should be someone we can call should a medical problem happen during a service or at one of our social events. If there is a family member or close friend you would like added to your information as a contact, please let the office know their name and phone number. Please phone the office or send an to office@stlukesburlington.ca KEEPING IN TOUCH If you notice that a parishioner who usually attends our services hasn t been here for a while, or you know them to be sick or in hospital, please contact the office with the name so that we can contact them. Have a suggestion/comment? Please use the suggestion box in the Narthex. Be assured that all suggestions & comments are directed to the appropriate person or group, but we can only provide feedback if you include your name/contact info. NEW PARISH DIRECTORY We will be printing a new parish directory in Pictures will be taken during the months of January, February and March. On November 25, and December 2, 9, & 16th you will have the opportunity to sign up for a date and time for your picture session. Appointments can be booked in the Narthex after the 8:15 service, and in the Great Hall during coffee hour.
