2 AUTUMN NEWS The Great Fall Hymn Sing Music at St. Luke's presents the Great Fall Hymn Sing in the church THIS AFTERNOON at 3.00pm This year's hymn sing features the choirs of West Plains United Church, plus St. Matthew's and St. Luke's Anglican Churches. The title of this year's hymn sing is "Royal Hymns & Anthems" featuring music performed at various royal functions. Tickets for the event will be for sale at coffee or by at or by phone at Ticket prices are $8.00 Seniors & Students, $10.00 for general admission. Children ages 12 & under have free admission. NEWSLETTER DEADLINE -for the December, January and February edition of the St. Luke s Newsletter is Fri. Nov. 9. This edition covers the very important Christmas season. Please your articles to newsletter@stlukesburlington.ca If you do not use you may hand it in to the church office before the deadline. Sorry, no late submissions will be accepted. Blue Christmas Service The Blue Christmas Service offers gentle prayers, music and hope for those feeling the pain of loss and grief. It is a time to gather and remember, it provides an opportunity to pray, to reflect and to honour the losses and the pain in our lives. Sunday, December 2 nd :30 p.m. All are welcome A big thank you to all who donated &/or came to the book sale last Saturday. We sold over $600 worth of books, so great for our first venture. We would like to have another one in the Spring--date to be determined. If you didn't get a chance to sort through your books put them aside for us. A special thank you to Elaina Wittig for her hard work & inspiration & to Doug Finch for all of his lifting, moving & packing--this venture would not have occurred without his help. Thanks to the rest of the crew that helped make this event a success. The children are busy rehearsing dramas, songs, dancing and telling the story of their centre. They will also be displaying their school work. There are three large events planned from October to December and Mary is sure the children will do a wonderful job! Construction to add a second floor to the centre began in July and therefore preparations for all the events have taken place outside whilst trying to ignore the noise and busy workers. Everyone is excited that the renovations are to be completed in time for the celebrations. Thank you for your prayers and support. 4 Speakers Lunch Group "The Canadian Army's Role in Afghanistan" Our November meeting of the St. Luke s Speakers Lunch Group is at 11.30am on Thursday November 8th in the Parish Hall. The speaker will be Major Gary McQueen, the Deputy Commanding Officer of the RHLI who will share experiences of his & the regiment's time in Afghanistan. Those with service medals please wear them.
