All are encouraged to receive from the chalice or with bread alone, and to refrain from intinction (dipping the wafer in the chalice). NURSERY for children (up to 3yrs old) in room 302 of the Parish Hall during the 10am service. COLLECT: Eternal Love of our wayward race, you open your arms to accept us even before we turn to meet your welcome; you invite us to forgiveness even before our hearts are softened to repentance. Hold before us the image of our humanity made new, so that we may live in Jesus Christ, your new creation. Amen. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS: God our provider, you have not fed us with bread alone, but with words of grace and life. Bless us and these your gifts, which we receive from your bounty, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION: Compassionate God, you have fed us with the bread of heaven. Sustain us in our Lenten pilgrimage; may our fasting be hunger for justice; our alms, a making of peace; and our prayer, the song of grateful hearts; through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Amen. CHANGES TO THE LITURGY DURING LENT The season of Lent is a time of reflection and repentance. To signify this mood from the joyous weeks of Epiphany, we make some changes in our Sunday worship. ***The clergy & choir will process & recess in silence. ***The Gloria & the Doxology are omitted. ***The Kyrie is sung before the Collect of the Day *** The responses before & after the gospel are spoken not sung. These small alterations to our regular worship remind us that Lent is a time of preparation for the great events of Holy Week. THE FLOWERS ARE GIVEN TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF : ************daughter Alison Mary; given by Elizabeth Flett Please join us for coffee/tea and a time of fellowship in the Great Hall, following the 10am service. 3 MARCH 6, 2016 LENT IV MOTHERING SUNDAY TODAY is the fourth Sunday of Lent and traditionally known as Mothering Sunday. In some parts of England it is the practice to visit one s mother on this special day. Other people mark the day by visiting the cathedral or mother church of the diocese. The name may be derived from a passage in the letter of Paul to the Galatians Jerusalem is the mother of us all. In the western church it is the custom to relax some of the disciplines of Lent on this Sunday. Please join us this morning as we mark Mothering Sunday by giving a flower to the ladies & enjoying Simnel cake. Church on Tap - Friends, Faith and Froth THIS EVENING, MAR. 6th at the Queen s Head Pub (corner of Brant and Elgin) at 7:00pm in the games room. We will watch a short video, followed by some discussion, and accompanied by some refreshments! Invite a friend to come along and see what it s all about! (We meet the last Sunday of each month) The Speakers Lunch The aim of the Speakers Lunch group is to foster awareness among parishioners of happenings & endeavours in the wider community that may be worthy of interest & support. The group meets at 11:30 am on the second Thursday of each month for social time, followed by a Bring Your Own Lunch & a talk by the speaker of the month. Please wmilne1@cogeco.ca for more information about the group. Through the centuries, iconography in Christian Churches has revealed beautiful images of Jesus, Mary, and the Saints, and has served as a portal of communication between ourselves and God. Please join us at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016, in the Great Hall for this beautifully illustrated and enlightening presentation. Our presenter, Ms. Ria Kinghorn, has been studying and painting icons for about seven years, following scholastic and artistic instruction to improve the many skills required for interpreting the Christian message into an icon. Come and listen to her share her knowledge and experience about a new way of living joyously in the presence of a tender and compassionate God. Ms. Kinghorn is married with 3 children and two grandchildren. She is a faithful member of the Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church in North Toronto. Her husband is a Deacon at St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church, also in North Toronto. Both are deeply involved in various pastoral ministries. Call Dave Beck at (905) by Wednesday, March 16 to register. A continental breakfast will be provided for all who attend. A free will donation is suggested. PRESENTED BY THE SATURDAY MEN'S PRAYER BREAKFAST GROUP
6 CEMETERY NOTICE When spring arrives, there is a major clean up in the cemetery, and then throughout the growing season the lawn is maintained. To be able to do this effectively for the benefit of all, we request your help in removing all winter/christmas wreaths as well as any weather-worn, faded or damaged wreaths, unused flower stands and flower receptacles by April 1st. Any items remaining after this date will be removed and disposed of. Here is the relevant excerpt from the Cemetery By Laws: "Winter wreaths and temporary wreath holders must be removed by 1 April to facilitate spring clean-up of cemetery grounds and to facilitate summer grass cutting." Your help and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Michael Skafel, Chair, Cemetery Committee. SPAGHETTI DINNER SAVE THE DATE Saturday, April 9th Group A is looking for wool for a project they are doing. Small amounts are fine. Light weight pastels would help with our Easter project. You may leave them in the Sew on Fire box in the parish hall or give them to anyone in the group. 8 Syrian Family update: We still await the arrival of our family and we are very ready! They were not "travel ready" when we made application in January, so there must be more steps happening yet before their arrival here. Please pray for Nabeel, Juhainah, Chorook, Zeneb, Mohammad, and Abdulmajid in their journey to Canada and for their transition in their new and safe homeland. Thank you to everyone who has offered and donated furniture, food, clothing and financial support. We cannot do this without the help and support of everyone. A NOTE FROM THE ALTAR GUILD: One of the many responsibilities of the Altar Guild is the care & maintenance of the linens used during the services. The purificator is used to wipe the chalice after each person receives the wine and it is also one of the most difficult pieces to clean. As you can imagine, this linen becomes stained with wine but it also picks up any lipstick left on the chalice both very difficult to remove from the linen. How can you help? If you wear lipstick, perhaps when you come to a Eucharist Service, you could wear less or blot your lipstick on a tissue before coming forward for communion. Your help & consideration is greatly appreciated! INFORMATION UPDATING We are updating our contact information and need your help. We would like to have emergency contact information, which is particularly important for those who live on their own. This contact should be someone we can call should a medical problem happen during a service or at one of our social events. If there is a family member or close friend you would like added to your information as a contact, please let the office know their name and phone number. Please phone office or by to office@stlukesburlington.ca KEEPING IN TOUCH If you notice that a parishioner who usually attends our services hasn t been here for a while, or you know them to be sick or in hospital, please contact the office with the name so that we can contact them. ALLERGY ALERT! We have a number of parishioners with allergies, so we ask that you refrain from wearing perfume or perfumed products to church. Thank you for your consideration.
