The People s Prayers (Please Stand, Sit or Kneel, as is your custom) Leader Let us pray for God s Kingdom breaking into our world today. Lord God, because Jesus teaches us to trust you in all things, we follow his word and share his prayer. Your kingdom come, your will be done. Leader Remembering nations in conflict, where the powerful threaten the weak, we remember Jesus words Put up your sword and we pray, O God, make us peacemakers in his Name. Leader Remembering our brothers and sisters in your church everywhere, we pray especially for... (insert names). We pray for unity for all people and we remember Jesus words that we might be one, and we pray, O God, give us courage to break down barriers between us. Your kingdom come, Your will be done. Leader Leader Remembering the hungry, the homeless, the lonely and afraid, we pray for all who are in need of your healing grace..(insert names) We remember Jesus words I was hungry, I was sick and we pray, O God let all who have much, share your gifts with all who have little. Your Kingdom come, your will be done. Remembering those whom we have loved who live now in your glory, we pray especially for. and all others who have been examples of faithfulness for us. Remembering Jesus Words I am with you always we pray, O God, Your kingdom come, your will be done. Leader Remembering all who have no one to pray for them, and times when our faith is weak and our prayers falter, we pray, Lord God, in Christ your kingdom is revealed among us. Open our minds to know it, our eyes to see it, our ears to hear it, our hands to serve it, our hearts to honour it, and our souls to rejoice in it, in Jesus name. The Prayer of Christ Teach us now, O Christ, to pray as one Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who 5

trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen Confession and Absolution (Please Kneel If Able) We remember our faults and our failings. And bring them to God. Silence Holy God, Maker of the skies above, Lowly Christ, born amidst the growing earth, Spirit of Life, wind over flowing water, in earth, in sea, in sky, you are there. O hidden mystery, Sun behind all suns, soul behind all souls, in everything we touch, in everyone we meet, Your presence is around us, and we give you thanks. But when we have not touched, but trampled you in creation, when we have not met, but missed you in another, forgive us and hear now our plea for mercy. Presider God, who calls you by name, hears your every prayer, forgives your sins, and holds you in love. In the name of the Holy Trinity your sins are forgiven. Live in peace and pray for me a sinner. Amen The Peace Presider Christ who nourishes us is our peace. Strangers and friends, male and female, old and young. He has broken down the barriers to bind us to him and to each other. Having been touched by his goodness, let us share his peace. Clergy The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. As we greet each other, in this place and this time, may our life in community reflect the life of the commonwealth of heaven by which the world is blessed. Announcements The Offertory Hymn: 304, things are thine Prayer over the Gifts God of faithfulness, accept our offering this day, and give us grace to witness to your truth and to follow in the path of those who acknowledge Jesus as Lord for ever and ever. Amen. 6

Presider Let us Pray O God, each thing we have, it came from you. Each thing we enjoy, is of your bounty. Each thing we ask, it comes of your disposing. Each thing for which we hope, from your love it will come. Thanks be to you, O God. ( A Wee Worship Book, p16) Holy Communion The Invitation Presider In the homes of Peter, Jarius, Zaccheus, Joanna, Mary and Martha, Jesus was always the guest. But here at this table, he is the host. Those who wish to serve him, must first be served by him, those who want to follow him must first be fed by him. So come, all who hunger and thirst for a deeper faith, for a better life, for a fairer world. Jesus Christ, who has sat at our tables, now invites us to his. The Story Presider Among friends, gathered round a table, Jesus took bread, and, having blessed it, He broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, Saying, 'this is my body which is given for you.' In the same way he took wine, and, having given thanks for it, He poured it out and gave the cup to his disciples, saying 'this cup is the new relationship with God, sealed with my blood. Take this and share it. So now we take this bread and wine, gifts of the living earth and of human labour. In these, Jesus has promised to be present; through these, Christ can make us whole. The Thanksgiving Presider The Lord be with you, And also with you. Presider Lift up your hearts, We lift them up to God Presider Let us give thanks to God, It is right to give both thanks and praise. Presider We offer you praise, dear God, and our hearts lifted high, for in the communion of your love, Christ comes close to us and we come close to Christ. Therefore with the whole realm of nature around us, with earth, sea 7

and sky, we sing to you. With the angels of light who envelop us, with Michael and the host of Heaven, with St. Luke and all the Saints before us and beside us, with brothers and sisters, east and west, north and south we sing to you. And with our loved ones, separate from us now, who yet in this Mystery are close to us, we join in the song of your unending greatness. Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might! Heaven and earth are full of your glory! Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! (At this time, please feel free to sit, kneel or remain standing for the rest of the prayer) Presider Now, knowing our praise alone is but part of our work in fulfilling your purpose, we remember him who came because words are not enough. Setting aside our words and our will, emptying our hearts and bringing nothing in our hands, we ask for the healing, the accepting, and the forgiving which Christ alone can offer. Lord Jesus Christ, present with us now, as we do in this place what you did in an upstairs room, breathe your Spirit upon us and upon this bread and this wine, that they may be heaven's food and drink for us, renewing, sustaining and making us whole, and that we may be your body on earth, loving and caring in the world. The Breaking of the Bread Presider Jesus, whom the universe could not contain, is present to us in this bread. He who redeems us and calls us by name, is present to us in this cup. So take this bread and this wine. In them, God comes to us, so that we may come to God. These are the gifts of God for all the people of God. Thanks be to God! (the sharing of the bread and wine all are welcome to receive) Communion Hymns (please join in singing these hymns) Ashokan Farewell Ungar (instrumental), 70, 612 Prayer after Communion (Please stand) Eternal God, we are nourished by the bread of life. Strengthen us to witness to the gospel, and bring us to reign with Jesus Christ your Son, for he is Lord now and for ever. Amen. 8

In gratitude, in deep gratitude; for this moment, this meal, these people, we give ourselves to you. Lead us out to live as changed people. Because we have shared the living bread we cannot remain the same. Ask much of us, Expect much from us, Enable much by us, Encourage many through us. So Lord, may we live to your glory, both as inhabitants of earth and citizens of the Commonwealth of Heaven. Amen. Closing Responses Christ s food in our soul, Our food shared like His. Christ s life in our hands, Our life shaped by His. Christ s Love in our hearts. Our love warmed through His. Christ s peace on our path, Our path following His. The Blessing Closing Hymn: 306, O for a thousand tongues to sing Dismissal Postlude: Rights of Man/Miner s Fancy (the postlude is part of the service and you are invited to stay & enjoy this music) The resources for this liturgy are taken from the Wee Worship Book and the Iona Abbey Worship Book and are reprinted with permission under onelicense.net #A Fricker 2012 (revised 2018) Thank you for being with us at our worship this morning. Contact Jackie Maver GIVINGS HORSE RACE Each week we will update how our general offerings are doing relative to budget. It ll look like a slow-motion horse race which will last all year! Here are our current numbers as of Oct 21st. Each week, the budget for givings is $7, Budget Actual Difference Last Week $7, $9, $1, Year to Date $329, $318, $11, In last week s givings I also included what came in last week for our 184th anniversary donations. This fortunately pushed us into the black for the week s givings dropping our current deficit for the 2018 givings line to just over $11,000. So we re heading in the right direction, but we still have a ways to catch up! We do hope that many more will still consider giving a special gift of $184 to celebrate our 184 years as a parish, and to mark all that St. Luke s means to you. If you cannot give the whole $184, could you consider giving half ($92) or a quarter ($46?) However you give, we thank you for your support so far and for your continued commitment to the ministry and mission of St. Luke s through your financial support, your prayers, and the giving of your time and yourself. May God bless all we are able to accomplish in 2018 through your support.
