All are encouraged to receive from the chalice or with bread alone, and to refrain from intinction (dipping the wafer in the chalice). NURSERY for children (up to 3yrs old) in room 302 of the Parish Hall, during the 10am service. COLLECT: Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came from heaven to be the true bread which gives llife to the world, evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. CHANGES TO THE LITURGY DURING LENT The season of Lent is a time of reflection and repentance. To signify this mood from the joyous weeks of Epiphany, we make some changes in our Sunday worship. ***The clergy & choir will process & recess in silence. ***The Gloria & the Doxology are omitted. ***The Kyrie is sung before the Collect of the Day *** The responses before & after the gospel are spoken not sung. These small alterations to our regular worship remind us that Lent is a time of preparation for the great events of Holy Week. 3 MARCH 15, 2015 LENTEN NEWS LENT IV MOTHERING SUNDAY TODAY is the fourth Sunday of Lent and traditionally known as Mothering Sunday. In some parts of England it is the practice to visit one s mother on this special day. Other people mark the day by visiting the cathedral or mother church of the diocese. The name may be derived from a passage in the letter of Paul to the Galatians Jerusalem is the mother of us all. In the western church it is the custom to relax some of the disciplines of Lent on this Sunday. Please join us this morning as we mark Mothering Sunday by giving a flower to the ladies & enjoying Simnel cake. Lenten Book Study Being Christian by Archbishop Rowan Williams A 4 Week Study week 3 today, in the Parish Hall & continuing each Sunday until March 22nd Please bring your own lunch and join us following coffee hour while we study the Bishop s selection for Lent this year. ST. MATTHEW S HOUSE LENTEN FOOD DRIVE Our food drive concludes next Sunday, MARCH 22nd. The focus will be CANNED FOODS (Meats, Fish, Vegetables, Fruits, Spaghetti Sauce, etc) If you prefer to make a cash donation, please use the St. Luke s envelopes in the pews and write St. Matthew s House on the donation for line. To be able to do this effectively for the benefit of all, we request your help in removing all winter/christmas wreaths as well as any weather-worn, faded or damaged wreaths, unused flower stands and flower receptacles by April 1st. Any items remaining after this date will be removed and disposed of. Here is the relevant excerpt from the Cemetery By Laws: "Winter wreaths and temporary wreath holders must be removed by 1 April to facilitate spring clean-up of cemetery grounds and to facilitate summer grass cutting." 5 Here come the Easter Eggs! El Hogar service team members will be selling handmade delicious Belgian chocolate covered fondant Easter eggs for several Sundays. These eggs support our efforts at El Hogar but are limited in number. They are available at $5 per egg & sold during coffee hour. The team will also be selling beautifully hand-crafted greeting cards made by Marilyn Barnes. She graciously makes these cards to benefit the children of El Hogar. İMuchisimas gracias! March 17/15 3:30 to 5pm in the Parish Hall SEEKING MEMORIAL DONATIONS FOR EASTER BRASS Easter is only 3 weeks away, and with it the triumphant sound of trumpets, trombone, and tuba. Sadly, we are still lacking sufficient funds for these brilliant musicians who enjoy their annual Easter visit with us. We are seeking individuals who may be interested in sponsoring a player, either for one or two services, or whatever you can afford, in the form of a memorial donation. Funds will be deposited into the brass line of the music budget and the name of your loved one will be noted and a tax receipt issued. If you wish to make a memorial donation towards the Easter Brass, please contact Jennifer or Bonnie Lennard. Let s support our talented guests and show them that their presence is appreciated!
