Welcome to St. Paul Visiting today? We are glad you are here! Stop by the Welcome Center and receive a sweet gift. PLEASE WEAR YOUR NAME TAGS! Interim Pastor Bill hopes you can help him learn names more easily by wearing your name tags for worship. He likes to use people s names at the communion rail when serving the bread, and the name tags make that so much easier. Thank you! Rainbow bags for toddlers are on the wooden rack up front on the right. A staffed nursery for infants to three-year-olds is on the lower level during worship services. Assisted listening headphones are available for those having difficulty hearing. Large-print bulletins are available. See an usher for assistance. Please write your name and other information on the welcome pad as it gets passed along. About our Worship We follow an ancient pattern through the liturgy (which literally means the work of the people ). Some parts of the service may change each week, but there is a consistent flow: praising God, hearing God s word, offering our prayers and gifts, celebrating communion, and being sent into the world for service. The format remains fairly constant, but the style will vary widely. Sometimes we sing with the pipe organ, and the ministers chant. Sometimes we worship accompanied by piano, guitars, drums, violins, flutes or whatever our folk play. We range from Bach to blues, because we know that different styles connect to different people. So we all worship together, and change the style every few weeks. It s one of the ways we minister to and with each other and build community. Thank you for being part of our worship and community today! *At the asterisk, stand as you are able. P: Presiding Minister A: Assisting Minister L: Lector C: Congregation ELW Page Numbers are printed in the lower corners in the front portion of the hymnal. Hymn Numbers are large numbers printed beside hymn titles in the rest of the book.

Responding to the Word of God Lesson 2 Samuel 5:1-5; 6:1-5 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, Look, we are your bone and flesh. For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel. So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. David and all the people with him set out and went from Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts who is enthroned on the cherubim. They carried the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart with the ark of God; and Ahio went in front of the ark. David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the Lord with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. The Word of God as written in 2 Samuel: L: Word of God, Word of Life. C: Thanks be to God.
*Gospel Acclamation #517 (V.1) Lord, keep Us Steadfast in Your Word
*Gospel Mark 11:8-10 P: The Holy Gospel according to Mark C: Glory to you, O Lord. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven! P: The Gospel of the Lord C: Praise to you, O Christ Children s sermon Leaders bring people together Pr. Bill Hutchison and point them to God Sermon David: God s Anointed Ark-itect and First Reformer Pr. Bill Hutchison
*Hymn of the Day: ELW #503 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
*Creed of the United Church of Canada We are not alone, we live in God's world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God's presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Note: The New Creed of the United Church of Canada was adopted at the 1968 General Council of that church as a contemporary expression of belief. It was later revised for inclusive language and reference to Creation. The New Creed was not intended to replace the Apostles or Nicene Creeds, but it was widely loved, and is frequently used throughout the United Church of Canada as a meaningful statement of faith. Presentation of Bibles to 3-year-olds, 1st Graders, and 6th Grade Confirmands Rite of Welcome into Adult Catechumenate (BASIC) C: Blessed be God who chose you in Christ. Live in love as Christ loved us.
*Prayers of the People After each petition of the prayers: A: Hear us, O God. OR A: Lord, in your mercy, C: Your mercy is great. C: hear our prayer. *Sharing of the Peace P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: And also with you. P: Let us share the peace. Temple Talk Caring Bob Cook Offering Psalm 122 St. Paul Choir C. Heine *Offertory Response: #494 (v. 1,3,4) For The Bread Which You Have Broken
*Offertory Prayer A: Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: Amen Sharing the Eucharistic Meal *Sanctus #414 (v.1) Holy God, We Praise Your Name
*Eucharistic Prayer *The Lord s Prayer ELW page 134 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen The Distribution of Communion The body and blood of Christ are present in this sacrament, for the forgiveness of sin and the strengthening of faith. All people are welcome to share in this meal with us. Parents, if you have a young child who receives communion, please indicate that when the minister comes to you. Those who do not receive communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing; simply keep your hands folded. Come forward and receive the bread from the minister. Gluten-free bread is available. The gold chalice contains wine; you may drink directly from the cup or dip your bread into the wine. The pottery chalice contains non-alcoholic grape juice, which you may receive by dipping your bread into the juice. Return to your seat by the side aisles. If you would like communion brought to you, simply let an usher know. Agnus Dei Lamb of God ELW page 194 (Choir first time through, joined by congregation second time)
