CHANGES TO THE LITURGY DURING LENT The season of Lent is a time of reflection and repentance. To signify this mood from the joyous weeks of Epiphany, we make some changes in our Sunday worship. ***The clergy & choir will process & recess in silence. ***The Gloria & the Doxology are omitted. ***The Kyrie is sung before the Collect of the Day *** The responses before & after the gospel are spoken not sung. These small alterations to our regular worship remind us that Lent is a time of preparation for the great events of Holy Week. Please join us for Coffee Hour following the 10am service. 3 FEBRUARY 18, 2018 FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT ANNUAL VESTRY MEETING IS NEXT SUNDAY, FEB. 25 in the Great Hall, following the 10am service The clergy will not be shaking hands at the door so please proceed to the Parish hall. You are asked to sign in & pick up reports. Refreshments will be available. TODAY: Copies of the Vestry booklet are available in the Narthex. PLEASE BRING your copy/copies with you to the meeting next Sunday as we only print a certain number. We are now accepting nominations for the elected positions of: people s warden, deputy people s warden & members at large. If you are interested, please submit your name & the name of the mover & seconder by tomorrow, Feb. 19, 2018 to Canon Stuart. MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR GEORGE WILLIAMS For all those who were unable to attend George s funeral in Toronto last month, we will have a short service of remembrance in the church today at 12pm. Please report any errors or omissions to the office at or office@stlukesburlington.ca FAITH & THE MEDIA Sunday March 18th at 2pm in the Great Hall Guest Speaker Steve Paikin, host of The Agenda on TVOntario, The subject of this question and answer session will be faith and media, how Christianity is perceived in media, and how we as Christians can better and further communicate the Gospel in the secular world of journalism. Steve is an award-winning journalist, author, and broadcaster, who also moderated the 2006, 2008, and 2011 federal leaders debates, and the 2007, 2011, and 2014 Ontario provincial leaders debates. Steve will be interviewed by Michael Coren. HALTON FRESH FOOD BOX - Pick up is Tuesday Feb. 20th in the Parish Hall between 3:30 and 5pm. REMINDER: PLEASE REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR NAME TAG. If interested or for further information please contact Maureen Cowman, Altar Guild Flower Woodlands Museum Tour Thursday March 15 Located in Brantford the Woodlands Cultural Centre Museum celebrates the history and culture of the Eastern Woodland First Peoples. The visit will also include a virtual tour of the Mohawk Institute which operated as a residential school until The cost is $13 per person and numbers are limited. Thank you for your support. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FRIDAY MARCH 2nd The service this year is from The Republic of Suriname. It lies in the northeastern part of South Africa. Dutch is the official language, the population is 540,000 inhabitants. The population consists of African, Asian and European people. 6 Thank you so much from the El Hogar Service Team! We are so grateful for your on-going support which you give in so many ways! Our team will be travelling to El Hogar on Friday, February 23 rd for a week with the children of El Hogar and of course, with our own Erika Skafel, the Coordinator of North American Relations. In the past, you have always been so generous in donating much needed requested items. This year El Hogar has requested that we change what we take down with us. Items of clothing are so much cheaper to buy in Honduras but the cost of items like toiletries, personal care products and school supplies are outrageously high there. Given El Hogar s request, if you are able to help, we are looking for toothpaste, soap, body lotion, razors and shampoo as well as regular and permanent markers, coloured pencils and both masking and Scotch tape. There is a box in the parish hall for the collection of items you donate. We will pack up everything after our commissioning on Sunday, February 18th. Thank you so much! LUKE S KITCHEN USERS Please visit the pots and pans display in the hall over the next week to tell us which pots and pans are essential to your group s activities. Look for the pots and pans on tables in the parlour or hall, or on the kitchen counters. We need to know which pots and pans to keep. Contact Heather White. The kitchen cupboards have been reorganized after their rearrangement during construction. There are cupboard maps on the kitchen doors to help you find things. ALLERGY ALERT We have a number of parishioners with scent allergies, so we are reminding people to please refrain from wearing any perfume or perfumed products to church.
