My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today s Entrance Antiphon reads: Resurréxi, et adhuc tecum sum: posuísti super me manum tuam: mirábilis facta est sciéntia tua, alleluia. I have risen, and I am with you still, you have laid your hand upon me. Too wonderful for me, this knowledge, alleluia. Happy Easter! Buona Pasqua! I pray that this day is filled with the peace and knowledge of Christ s resurrection and of His abiding presence with you. Always know of His presence and love in your life. Please know of my prayers and sincerest best wishes for you and your families. Thank you for your kind patience last weekend. Although I know it was difficult for many of you, the precaution of having Mass in the gym was necessary. As mentioned at the Masses, one of the chandeliers in the church fell. I did not want us to be in the church until all of the fixtures could be examined and any necessary changes made. I would like to extend a special word of thanks to Dan Debick and his crew for the extra work in transforming the gym for our Masses; to all of the liturgical ministers and ushers who made the adaptations needed; to the Knights of Columbus and to our Scout Leaders, Jim Kups and Denise Pease, who organized their youth and adult volunteers to help direct parishioners to the gym. Thank you to Joanne and Eileen, along with the young people, who helped to make the Easter Egg hunt a success for our little ones. Thank you, too, to Jeanne for baking the special cookies for the children. You can see pictures of the event on our website. On this most solemn day, when our sovereign Lord Jesus Christ gloriously rose from the grave as He said He would, proving to all the world that He is the eternal Son of God as He said he is, we rejoice in holy Mother Church, renewed in our faith, that in Christ there is life and by remaining in His grace, we shall be heirs to the glories of heaven that He won for us by His Cross and Resurrection! I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me, shall never die. Easter is the celebration of a present reality. The reality is that Jesus lives! Not that Jesus died and rose again in the past, but that Jesus lives among us and within us right here, and right now. This is our Easter proclamation. We experience His presence in our lives in so many beautiful ways. Jesus is among us and within us when we are together as a community. Jesus is here in the proclamation of Sacred Scripture, for He is the very Word of God. We experience Jesus real presence in the Sacraments. It is not just water that is poured on the baptized. God's very life is poured into us. It is not just sacred chrism that is put on the foreheads of the confirmed, it is the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit, that comes upon us empowering us to lead others to Christ. It is not just a host that we receive today. When you and I receive Holy Communion we truly receive Jesus Christ because Jesus lives. I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me, shall never die. Easter is the celebration of future hope. This future hope is that we will all share in the fullness of the New Life. When we are baptized we are given a share of the Resurrection of the Lord. Baptism and the renewal of our baptismal promises are placed at the center of our Easter celebration. Why? Because, it is our acceptance of the New Life of the Lord. It is the sacramental sign of God's transforming us into new creatures for the Kingdom of God. A New Life that continues to be lived right here, and right now - calling us to share in that blessed life in Heaven. I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me, shall never die. 6 PAGE 6 EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD ACADEMY NEWS... A Happy and Blessed Easter to All!!! Easter vacation began with our 1:30 p.m. early dismissal on Holy Thursday. Vacation for our Academy students is Friday, April 6, through Sunday, April 15. Classes resume on Monday, April 16, for grades 1-8. Pre-School and Kindergarten classes will start one day later ~ on Tuesday, April 17 ~ because there will be screening of incoming Kindergarten students taking place on Monday. Our Holy Thursday theme Lenten Journey-Thy Will Be Done was a wonderful example of prayerful reflection. We participated in the Stations of the Cross, a video presentation of the Holy Lands, and a Breaking of Bread service. The students were vibrant participants throughout the day. My thanks to all of them. Thanks, also, to our Spirituality Committee for planning this solemn day for us. Please join the Drama Club for a Pancake Breakfast next Sunday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in our cafeteria. Proceeds will benefit the Sacred Heart of Jesus Drama Club. All the students of the parish in Grade 8 will have an important Confirmation practice with their sponsors on Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in the Church. Bishop Quinn will confirm at the 5 p.m. Mass on Sunday, April 22. Please keep all our confirmandi in your prayers. With God s Blessing, Mr. DiBacco, Principal ATTENTION PARENTS OF CHILDREN ENTERING THE KINDERGARTEN CLASS OF MARK YOUR CALENDARS April 16 and 17 are the days for the screening of our incoming Kindergarten class. If you need information about this screening process, please call the Academy ( ) and ask to speak to one of our Kindergarten teachers. There are 5 Sundays in the Month of April. That means that on the last Sunday, April 29, there will be another opportunity for you to support the poor and needy of our area through the use of the special envelope in your pack. Please be generous! Please remember to use our recycle bins near the Credit Union to place your newspapers and other paper (but not cardboard). That paper is returned to us in other paper (namely, the green, spendable kind). Every sheet counts!!! FAMILY PERSPECTIVES... In the confusion of Easter morning, Peter proved to be a mentor to the younger disciple in today s Gospel. Even though the younger disciple arrived first at the empty tomb, he waited for Peter to make sense of this confusing event. Children in our families and neighborhoods also need mentors to help them make sense out of the confusing times and bewildering events that surround their lives. We can help our young people see and believe just like the young disciple in the Gospel.
