2 Page 2 eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 31, 2016 From the Pastor s Desk A Tribute of Love As I pen to write my pastors column, I dedicate this column to my predecessor Fr. Andrew Luczak. Fr. Andrew Luczak has spent his last valuable 10 years as Pastor in this parish of St. Isaac Jogues and mentored me while I was his Associate for the past one and one-half years. Being a religious priest, I was thinking, how would I be able to live a life in common. It was so well achieved by him being there not just for all meals but also sharing knowledge, culture and customs which gave me an opportunity to know him better than any other. They say you don t appreciate what you have until you lose it. I am very grateful to him for his care and guidance as he embraced me as one of his own even cooking food and taking care of me during my time of adjustment. Thank you for being a good companion along the way and playing an important role in my life. I am grateful for your stimulating company and the enormous collection of shared experiences indelibly printed on my mind. I would describe Fr. Luczak as a man of God, Teacher, preacher, visionary, a friend and mentor. Your service to God will never go unnoticed by Him. Your firm stand on the teachings of God and your sermons and talks has made us aware of our responsibility for our actions and decisions to follow God s teachings in our everyday living. Time after time, your faithfulness has demonstrated your commitment to the Lord. The Bible states that people perish for lack of knowledge, not at the Church of St Isaac Jogues. You fed your faithful parishioners with God s word and inspired them with the lives of saints and with your beautiful singing voice that added color to our celebrations. As we say goodbye; we remind ourselves that farewells are not forever, nor are they the end. They are simply words to say that we will miss you dearly and that we will remember you fondly. Although we may be separated by time and distances in the interim, nothing will diminish the important role that you have and always will play in our lives. As Alice Radosh says Retirement is not a static event, fixed in time with a gold watch to mark it. Rather retirement if that is even the right word.is a multi directional process that can take many years. It is indeed interesting to note how you have touched the lives of people here as their pastor. This is what they have to say: you are encouraging & supportive, provided intellectual leadership, genuine treasure, world traveler, multicultural, inspirational, unflappable, intelligent, an inclusive compassionate leader, a spiritual man with hidden talents, bridge builder, traditionalist with a poetic heart, knowledgeable, sharing, generous, has a remarkable memory, good voice and embraces diversity. Well, the list can go on, but let me tell you that people have felt your touch and your fatherly affection. Extend an invitation to family, friends, or neighbors to join with us. All are welcome! St. Isaac Jogues welcome our new Parishioners to the Parish. Ms. Lee Bee Tiu of Des Plaines *Religious Education Classes for children in Grs. 1-8 begin on Monday, August 29th and on Sunday, September 11 th for Kindergarten. Information letters will be mailed out in a couple of weeks. If you have not had the chance to register your child(ren) for the RE Program, please do so this week. Sessions for Kindergarten are on Sundays, a.m. and sessions for Grs. 1-8 (Confirmation Year II) are on Mondays, 6:45-8:00 p.m. Please note: A young person must receive religious education in a parish RE Program or Catholic School the two years immediately prior to receiving sacraments. If you have children who have not yet made their sacraments or a child with special needs, please call to discuss possible options. We would welcome the opportunity to support your efforts in passing on the Catholic Faith to your children and help them prepare to participate in the sacraments! Sharing the faith with our children is one of our most important privileges and responsibilities as parents and as a community of faith! All are welcome, and no one is denied religious education because of financial difficulties. 6 Page 6 eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 31, 2016 HOLY DOOR PILGRIMAGE The Spiritual Life Commission invites you for a day-long Holy Doors Pilgrimage on Saturday, August 20 th. The pilgrimage begins with the 8 a.m. Mass here at St. Isaac Jogues and then we are on the way to Marytown/the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Martha/Shrine of All Saints, and finally St. Stanislaus Kostka/the Shrine of Divine Mercy. We anticipate arriving back at St. Isaac Jogues by 4 p.m. The cost of the pilgrimage is $20 and will cover the bus, a breakfast snack, lunch and a group donation to each of the shrines. The bus will only accommodate 47 people, so sign up early. To register please stop in the Holy Family Room today or next weekend. Or call the Religious Education Office, 847/ Registration includes your payment of $20. The deadline is Sunday, August 7 th. A plenary indulgence will be received by going through the Holy Doors that day. One must be in a state of grace, free even of venial sin, in order to receive the plenary indulgence. If not, only a partial is received. One must participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and on the day of the pilgrimage attend Mass, receive Holy Communion and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. The plenary indulgence may be for yourself or may be offered for a soul in Purgatory. More information about the indulgence and the importance of the Holy Doors can be found on the Archdiocesan website, or in the articles provided at the doors of our church. SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE We ask your help for the children of our Sharing Parish, Maternity BVM, and some of the children of our own parish during the annual School Supply Drive which will be held the weekend of August 6-7 in the Holy Family Room. New supplies create excitement for a new year of learning and growth! We know we can count on each of you! Please start looking for those school supply sales!
