2 Page 2 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 5, 2016 HIGH SCHOOL REUNION 1961 I think the s and letters began in October. Imagine how old it made me feel! There was to be a reunion of the graduating Class of my class! It hardly seems possible! I remember my four years at Loyola Academy and especially my graduation day. On June 3, 1961, we received diplomas in black tie and white dinner jackets. It was so like Loyola Academy not to do the usual - caps and gowns. I recall that, in the programme, my middle name was wrong, but it was correct on the diploma, and that was more important. After graduation, Paul Stepan, invited the whole class to his house in Winnetka for a barbecue. If you were cool and North Shore, you knew dinner jacket, no tie and madras bermudas were de rigeuer. It was 1961 and there wasn t a greaser north of Devon Avenue. Yes, there was life after graduation. Some classmates have been life-long friends. Others have made the reunions lively and interesting. The Class of 1961 had people successful in business, education, and the legal and medical professions. There are two priests in the class - one you knowthe other is one of my best friends, Fr. Wayne Jorgenson, a Russian Orthodox priest. We even had an important politician, Richard A. Devine. what we shared and commend their souls to God. In many ways, I believe that their good Christian lives helped me not only to be a better person, but were part of the reason I m a priest today. Reunions are funny in the way people look very different, and yet are essentially the same. The cocktail reception and dinner will be more than a sea of gray and bald heads. It will be funny stories and necessary updates that weren t in the alumni news. Occasionally there are new spouses to meet. I ll never forget a friend who said to me: You have to meet my wife. I told him, I met her at the last reunion. He responded, No, it s a different wife! Unlike earlier reunions, there will probably be none of our teaches to meet us. Some of my favorite memories come from our tenth reunion in I was ordained one year. I bumped into Fr. J.P. Beall, the tough guy of discipline. I looked up at him pointed to my collar and asked, Would you believe it? He glowered back and shouted down to me, NO! Then he went on his way. So much for impressing people! It was the same reunion that brought me face to face with Fr. William F. Ryan. He was a tremendous English teacher, but demanded perfection. He was nicknamed W.F. or Withdraw Failing Ryan. Also, trying to be kind to this great teacher, then now in a wheelchair, I said, If there s anything you want, let me know. Reaching into his pocket, he produced change. Buy me a Sunday Paper. Immediately, I did as I was told. I won t even try to be important at my 55th reunion. I learned something from all the others! - Fr. Luczak I was honored when asked to celebrate Mass for my classmates. The names of our deceased members will be read at the Universal Prayer of the Mass. It is an important moment to remember

Melanio Viuya, Jr., MJ, who will tell us of the work of his religious community. A second collection will be taken up in support of their mission work. Envelopes are at the doors of the church today. The Missionaries of Jesus is an international and multicultural religious missionary community. It was founded in the Philippines on 12 June 2002 by a group of forty-one men called and inspired by the mission and humanity of Jesus, who calls us to make disciples of all nations. We call ourselves, friends and disciples. It is our desire to gather more friends and co-disciples. Our objective is the promotion of the universality of the Christian message through presence, proclamation, and prayer. Our mission is to unveil the real face of Jesus hidden in our brothers and sisters in any mountain and plain; forest and city we work and live as we gather Jesus friends and disciples. We are working in the Philippines in Papua New Guinea, in Guatemala and in the USA We focus on evangelization of people, formation of leaders, education of the youth, socioeconomic and health needs of the poor and the indigenous people. Website: Friday Night at the Movies Presents Risen Friday, June 10th At 7:00 PM Doors open at 6:30 PM (HFRM) Risen, starring Joseph Fiennes, follows the biblical story of the resurrection as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius, a powerful Roman Military Tribune, and his aide Lucius, are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus after they found the tomb empty. Could it be that he has RISEN as his disciples say? The movie is free of charge as are the popcorn and sodas. Come enjoy a great movie and bring your friends! All are welcome! We are blessed by the generosity of some of Chicagoland s top cabaret performers, all friends of Buddy and after all these years friends of our parish, too! Please support their efforts to help us. 4 Page 4 Page 5 Tenth Sunday The most in holy Ordinary trinity Time May 22, June 20165, 2016 THANK YOU CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION The Corpus Christi Procession was indeed held outdoors and it was a beautiful and prayerful celebration of the Real Presence of Christ in our midst!. The Liturgy Board and Parish Life Commission extend their heartfelt thanks to all who helped make this such a special event. Thank you to the visiting clergy, the SIJ Music Ministry (choirs, instrumentalists, bells), the liturgical ministers; representatives from our Polish Community, the Paderewski Polish School, and members of The Lira Singers; our neighboring parish St. Mary Knanaya Catholic Church; our sharing parish Maternity BVM; our Fil-Am Group; young parishioners who joined in dropping the flower petals and those who carried the canopy and banner, who prepared food or picked it up for the lunch; who served, set up, cleaned up and all the other tasks necessary for the success of this procession. It was a wonderful witness to others and truly expressed our praise and thanks to God! Altar flowers this week: GRADUATES BLESSING There will be a blessing of all Graduates near the end of the Masses next weekend. Whether it s a graduation from preschool or kindergarten, junior high, high school, college, technical school, boot camp, advanced degrees, etc. St. Isaac Jogues Parish is proud of you and gives thanks to God for all the ways He has blessed you! K-8 as of September, 2016, and who attend public school are invited and encouraged to sign up for the parish s Religious Education Program. It is important to register your child(ren) for religious education and faith formation each year as no one year teaches everything. We are called to always grow in our knowledge, understanding and practice of our Catholic faith and in our living that faith within the community of the Church and beyond. The Kindergarten class meets on Sundays, a.m. and Grs. 1 Confirmation II meets on Mondays, 6:45-8:00 p.m. Families who participated in this past year s program need only fill out the blue form that had been distributed in class or contact the RE Office for another one. To help us in planning for catechists, assistants and materials, please complete this important task by June 15 th! New families are also invited and welcome! Please contact the RE Office to set up a time to come in, learn more about the RE Program and fill out the registration forms. In addition to a family and student form, a copy of each child s baptismal certificate is appreciated as well as dates of other sacraments received already. All Families, please note: A young person must be in Religious Education or Catholic School the two years immediately prior to receiving sacraments. If you have children who have not yet made their sacraments or who have a child with special needs to call us to discuss possible options. We would welcome the opportunity to support your efforts in passing on the Catholic Faith to your children! There is a tuition and book fee, as well as a sacrament fee in the appropriate year(s). Please know, however, that all are welcome. If you have a financial concern, please contact Dolores Stanton. No one is denied religious education because of financial difficulties.
