2 Page 2 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 7, 2018 From the Pastor s Desk They are no longer two but one flesh When you decide to get married, the two individuals are committing to becoming one with their spouse. Although the two become one, yes, they both need to maintain their sense of individuality that allows them to be there for each other when need be. But you also need to realize that your actions and decisions no longer only affect yourself, but another as well. Now as they see themselves as part of a newly formed partnership and really appreciate what that means for their life and that of their partner, it can go a long way towards helping them drop their other bad habits. Realizing that their actions now can have a strong impact on the life of their partner, they need to begin to shape up financially, drop their irrational jealousy, stop keeping secrets, and check their jealousy at the door. Jesus point is that married couple is something that God has joined together. Marriage is not of a human origin; it originated with God and is part of the way that God designed the human race to live. In saying let no one separate a marriage, Jesus taught that divorce is not God s plan. Once a couple is married, they have been joined together by God Himself, and the union is meant to be for life. This principle holds true despite the faith of the couple. If God has joined them together, then no human being has the right to break that union. Getting married to the person you love is a huge step, one that often invokes plenty of soul-searching. You want to be a partner for your spouse for what will hopefully be the rest of your lives, but it can be difficult to know how to begin down the road of self-improvement. Every couple to be married is going to face their own unique challenges, but one should remember that in marriage, one should not be waiting to only receive from one s spouse but should be prepared to give oneself for the sake of another. In doing so, one begins to lay the foundation for a new beginning of a family life of love. God intended humans to be happy and so when the question of marriage was placed before Jesus, he reminds them the intention of God from the beginning by quoting the Scriptures from the book of Genesis, stating that from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. Let every couple in a relationship understand the purpose of God in creating man and women in his image and likeness, so that they may realize that they have entered into a sacred covenant that has united them in the sacrament of Marriage. -Fr. Knowing they can make a difference in the fight against hunger teens and adults are walking in the Niles-Park Ridge CROP Walk on Sunday, Oct. 21 st. 25% of total funds raised will go to help the Maine Township Food Pantry. Registration begins that Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke s Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect (at Cedar Street), Park Ridge. The CROP Walk begins at 2:00 2:30 p.m. Team SIJ plans to do the three mile walk. If you need a ride to St. Luke, please let us know. We will meet in the SIJ parking lot at 1:15 p.m. We will return about 4:30 p.m. If you want to be part of the walk and help to end hunger, contact Dee Stanton for more information, a donations envelope, a permission slip (17 and younger), and /or to make a donation to Team SIJ (must receive by 10/21) 847/ or sijre2004@yahoo.com.

4 Page 4 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 7, 2018 Our Parish Feast Day weekend is October 20-21! Everyone is invited to come and share in the celebration! We encourage you to invite former parishioners to come home and join us, as well as your families, friends, neighbors, for a wonderful time of prayer, food, music, friendship and fun! The Taste of St. Isaac Jogues is Saturday, Oct. 20. Food will be served 6:00-7:45 p.m. down in the Parish Hall (accessible by elevator or stairs). Come enjoy tastes from twelve different countries (menu below)! Tickets are 50 cents each and food, beverages, and desserts will be 1-4 tickets each. Tickets will be sold in the Holy Family Room before and after Mass, in the narthex and in the Parish Hall after Mass and all through the Taste. There will also be face painting and Split the Pot. At 7 p.m. upstairs in the Holy Family Room there will be a performance by some students of the Indian Dance Class taught by Ms. Reemlee Chowdhury. They might even teach us a step or two! A few games for the children will be in the school hallway and the music of Patty and the Melts (Lisa Hall & Family) will be from 7:30-9:30 p.m. along with dancing. We ll also continue to sell beverages, chips and desserts. ALTAR FLOWERS CAN BE A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE Parishioners are invited to decorate the altar with flowers in honor or memory of a loved one. There can be two arrangements each week. Your name and inten on is listed in the Bulle n. The cost of a flower arrangement is $50. Altar flowers are available each weekend un l the end of November. 5 Page 5 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 7, The first RE Family Event is TODAY beginning with the Noon Mass. +RE Classes (and Youth Choir practice) will not be held on Monday, Oct. 8. We look forward to being with everyone on Oct. 15. That night is our Child/Youth Safety Training night. Parents and /guardians are welcome to attend. BABY BOTTLE PROJECT If you did not pick up a baby bottle last week in support of the pro-life work of The Women s Center, please do so today. Collect your spare change throughout this month and at the end of October return the baby bottle and your donation to the Holy Family Room. A little change makes a big difference so please support this annual project as best as you are able! MORNING OF REFLECTION A Morning of Reflection, Learning from Our Lady: How to Navigate Through the Mysteries of our Life, will be held Saturday, October 13 th, beginning with 8 a.m. Mass and followed by a continental breakfast in the Holy Family Room. Talks, quiet time and small group sharing will fill the morning and we will end by Noon. The Spiritual Life Commission and Women s Club invite everyone for this time of prayer, inspiration and growth, which will be led by Marial Corona, a lay consecrated woman in the Regnum Christi movement who leads mission trips for young people in the U.S. and abroad. The morning is entitled The Life of Our Lord and His Mother were interwoven with moments of joy, light, sorrow, and glory. We contemplate these in the twenty decades of the Rosary. Our life is not any different. Holding the hand of our Mother we can learn to navigate the highs and the lows each day brings, asking for an always deeper surrender to the mystery of God s action in the world, the Church and our lives. The suggested donation is $10 per person.
