2 Page 2 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 28, 2018 From the Pastor s Desk Master, I want to see The world is beautiful to look at; and we can enjoy the beauty of it due to the gift of the sense of sight. Senses play an important part of our life. Human beings have five senses; the eyes to see, tongue to taste, nose to smell, ears to hear and skin to touch. But the most important organs of sense are our eyes as it allows us to walk freely and safely everywhere. We perceive up to 80 per cent of all impressions by means of our sight. And if other senses such as taste or smell stop working, it's the eyes that best protect us from danger. It is said that The eyes are the windows to the soul is an expression that is often used to describe the deep connection one feels when looking into another s eyes. However, like windows, the eyes work both ways. They are not only important in seeing into another person s soul, but they are also vital in how we view the world around us. Eyes are the most complex organs in our body. We rely on our eyes to navigate and understand our surroundings. The request of the blind man who was asked by Jesus as to what he wants him to do and he replied saying, Master, I want to see. We have our sight and we can see clearly but there could be a few who are unable to see properly with their eyes. I know how important sight is. When I take my glasses off I realize how important it is for me to have my glasses to read clearly and distinctly. Is it the physical sight that we ask Jesus to restore, or should we request like the blind beggar, to restore our vision spiritually, which has been blurred due to sin, desire for materialism, sexual pleasure, and all other vices that has eroded our body and have taken our innocence away? The blind beggar not only got back his physical sight but his faith helped him to be healed spiritually. Unless, our sight is restored we would not be able to admire the beauty of the wonders God works in our lives. The Sacraments are gifts to us. Eucharist is one such gift that allows us to have a direct contact with our God in our place of worship. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation one s soul is purified and is able to see and admire the gifts of God. Let us enjoy these gifts while we have our eyes and use them to glorify God. With all simplicity then, let us turn to the Lord seeking his help by crying out to Him, Master, I want to see. -Fr. Mario Prepare for renovations... As you well know, our parish needs to make significant infrastructure repairs. That is the reason for the capital campaign to raise over a million dollars to tackle our long list of work. Work could begin during the winter and early spring of 2019! It s time for a Renovation Committee. We are looking for 10 people with experience in construction trades, interior design and finance or budget who will work directly with the Office of Divine Worship and Facilities and Construction throughout the project process. This Committee will help us make the best decisions in construction, design and finance. If you or someone you know has the expertise we need, please send an to office@sij-parish.com with a brief paragraph telling us the experiences that qualifies you or your nominee enabling you to be a most productive committee member. The Parish Finance Committee and the Parish Pastoral Council will review all applications and make membership recommendations to our Pastor, Fr. Mario. Thank you for your attention. THE BOOK OF LIFE Parishioners may now inscribe the names of deceased family members and friends, par cularly those who died this past year, in the Book of Life, which is located near the bap smal font. Those whose funeral Masses were held here since last All Souls Day are already inscribed in the book. We will remember all those in the Book of Life during the Universal Prayer throughout the month of November.

Those in the society are remembered at a weekday Mass each week. Kindly place your envelope in the collection by November 2 nd. It was a great night with lots of people, delicious food, wonderful music, laughter, and celebration of our patron saint and our community. Everyone s generosity and efforts raised a net total of $3,000. We are also grateful to all the liturgical ministers and guest musicians who assisted at the beautiful and prayerful Feast Day Mass on Sunday, Team SIJ for participating on our parish s behalf in the CROP Walk and to all who made contributions to help the fight against hunger. God bless all of you who made Feast Day Weekend a memorable one! Hear our prayer, O Lord, for our military personnel and first responders. Women s Club Clothing Drive Where: Holy Family Room Benefitting: Cornerstone Community Outreach in Chicago-A center which gives shelter to the homeless and feeds those in need in their neighborhood. Please bring your clean usable items on November 7th & 8th. The center is especially in need of men s, women s, and children s coats, gloves, hats, and scarves. Blankets, sheets, pillows, and towels would also be appreciated. Thank you on behalf of the St. Isaac Jogues Women s Club Community Concerns Commission. FORMATION SERIES: THE MASS Bishop Robert Barron s The Mass will be shown the next five Mondays at 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the Holy Family Room. Each session is an hour and includes watching one part of his dvd presentation and discussing it with others who attend. Invite family, friends, and neighbors, active in their Catholic faith or not, to come with you. It could be a means of growth for them and/or greater participation in the Mass.
