Th diocs is in th midst of calling a nw bishop for th first tim in twnty yars. It is xciting. Th bishop is th chif pastor of th church and has ovrsight of th whol (which is what th Grk word piscop mans). Our nw bishop will chart a cours for th diocs for many yars to com. And yt th journy is not primarily th bishop s. Th bishop rminds th Church that through th Sacramnts of Baptism and Holy Communion, th Body of Christ compriss all th popl of God togthr. Thr ar no outcasts and no outsidrs. Initially a priod of prparation for baptism at th Eastr Vigil, it bcam an opportunity for th ntir Christian community to rnw its faith through prayr, pnitnc, slf-dnial, and by rflcting on foundational Christian tradition and thology. By rturning ach yar to th basics Christians may dpn thir faith and rspond with thir livs in gratitud for God s saving lov mad flsh in Jsus Christ. Faith finds in th past a foundation on which to build th futur. What this might man for us as a parish and as individual Christians is our thm this Lnt. Sundays in Lnt On Sundays Danil Smith and Joy Klingr, our two sminarians, will facilitat a discussion of Futur Church/Challngs and Opportunitis for Mission. Human bings ar hungry to know th futur, prhaps bcaus dp down w know it will always com as a sris of surpriss som wlcom; som not. Our faith affirms that our livs ar safly in th hands of God, but th trip from hr to thr may wll b harrowing on. Th challngs to th Church our parish, Th Episcopal Church, and th world-wid Christian churchs ar all around us. But thr ar grat opportunitis for mission and for growth numrical and spiritual as wll as for rinvntion. Lnt is th right tim to ask what our tradition, history, and thology hav to say about th rlationship btwn th ancint Church and th Futur Church. Wdnsday Evnings at 6:30 pm Our Snior Sminarian has prviously introducd us to worship from Holdn Villag during Lnt and Advnt. During this Lntn Sason w will again b ngaging in prayr from Holdn Villag. In th past w hav sung and njoyd Holdn Evning Prayr. For this Lnt w will b ngaging in Holdn Prayr Around th Cross. This srvic diffrs from vning prayr in that it focuss on th cross, on th burdns w carry, and how th cross can hlp us bar thm. This stting is diffrnt from Taiz Prayr Around th Cross (first Friday of vry month) which focuss mor on a mditativ srvic whil Holdn Prayr Around th Cross has mor radings, mor song, and lss silnc. Holdn Prayr Around th Cross also uss mditations and radings byond scriptur. It is also uniqu in that thr ar many diffrnt sttings that focus on topics from haling to cration. W will b using thir Lntn liturgy. Thr will b mditations, scriptur, and singing.
