Waiting for a traffic light to turn grn, waiting in lin at th post offic, waiting to chck your bags at th airport, waiting for coff at th driv-thru, waiting for a phon call, waiting for a birthday, waiting on somon ls. Th fact is, w spnd a lot of our tim waiting. Why do w wait? W know somthing is coming. You gnrally wouldn t wait at a post offic on a Sunday. No on is working. You wouldn t sit at a flashing yllow light. Mayb it s brokn; it won t turn grn. A major factor in waiting is faith th rality of what is hopd for, th proof of what is not sn (Hbrws 11:1). This is prcisly what th propht Habakkuk addrssd. H found himslf in a priod of waiting, first for judgmnt and thn for rvival. All around him, popl wr opprssd and violnc scalatd. How long, Lord, must I call for hlp? Habakkuk askd. Why do You tolrat wrongdoing? God answrd Habakkuk. God was going to rais up th Babylonians, and thy would hold captiv th popl of Judah. Habakkuk (huh BAK kuk) prayd. How long will I cry to You for hlp and You do not har m? Habakkuk had told God about all th violnc that was happning in Judah, but nothing smd to chang. Was God vn listning? Why do You lt bad things happn? Popl ar fighting and staling. Th bad guys always win, Habakkuk said. It wasn t supposd to b this way. God was listning. H hard Habakkuk s prayrs, and H knw what was happning. God answrd, Look around you. Watch! I am doing somthing amazing, somthing you wouldn t bliv if I told you. Thn God told Habakkuk what was going to happn. God was raising up nmis th mighty Babylonians. No on could stand in thir way.
