Sunday, November 18, 2018 Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time FROM THE DESK OF THE ADMINISTRATOR We are entering into some busy days aren t we? With Thanksgiving this week, there are a number of early bulletin deadlines. So, I apologize that some of the news this week and next will not be as fresh as it should be. As I mentioned last week, this week s bulletin contains a survey on the Mass schedule. You can also find it online at It will take you about five minutes to complete. Submissions need returned by December 9 th. Most of the questions offer the clergy team and advisory councils objective feedback as to the satisfaction of the schedule. There are a couple of questions that are subjective, looking for a BRIEF opinion on an issue. Also note that only SIGNED surveys will be considered. Your anonymous feedback is not welcomed! We are adults and can approach this in an adult way. Be honest, yet be brief! Your input is important to us. Thanks in advance. Another forthcoming survey will be for liturgical ministers. Come the new year, we want to begin cross pollinating ministries if at all possible. Further, if you are currently NOT a liturgical minister and interested in being one, please let the parish offices know so that we can add you to the mix. Speaking of Thanksgiving, there are a number of events associated with the eve and the day. Let me enumerate. Know that ALL the parish offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day as well as Friday the 23 rd. These folks do a lot of hard work and deserve the time off! There are two vigil celebrations. You are welcome to attend the Etna Community Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7:00 PM at Emmanuel Lutheran. Yours truly will be preaching. A collection of food and money will support the Bread of Life Food Pantry here in town. There is also the Shaler, Hampton, Etna Ministerium service at 7:30 pm at the Hampton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John DeLancey as preacher. I ve often teased my colleagues in ministry that Etna runs a rogue ministerial association! As for Thanksgiving Day, there is a Mass for everyone everywhere! ASP, SBP, and SNP will be having Mass at 9:00 AM. I have learned that the SBP Mass has a food collection for the North Hills Community Outreach. So come to Mass and give thanks to God for all that you have been given! See you in a Church somewhere this week! Fr. Jim Gretz

BISHOP DAVID ZUBIK TO HOST LISTENING SESSIONS Bishop David Zubik will host four listening sessions in late November and early December, and is asking parishioners and others to attend to express their thoughts and concerns, and to offer suggestions following the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report. The listening sessions will take place in the context of prayer and will be led by a team of lay professionals who seek to provide a structured format for the faithful to be heard concerning the current challenges in the Church and to express viewpoints for moving forward. Survivors of child sexual abuse by clergy and their family members, as well as parishioners are invited to share their feelings and struggles. Bishop Zubik will be present to listen to the faithful and will rely on the skill of lay leaders to facilitate the evening. Once all of the sessions have been held, Bishop Zubik will prepare a pastoral response with the help of the facilitators. Over the course of the last weeks I have received many s, text messages and letters from folks, Bishop Zubik said. I look forward to these opportunities to hear directly from people about what they expect of the Church so that I can best respond to their needs. Survivors of abuse and their families need not be silent about what they suffer and the faithful need an opportunity to express their feelings, concerns and questions. The sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held as follows: Thursday, November 29, 2018 Saint Paul Cathedral, Oakland, 108 N. Dithridge Street, Pgh, PA Monday, December 3, 2018 Saint Thomas à Becket Church, Jefferson Hills, 139 Gill Hall Road, Jefferson Hills, PA Tuesday, December 4, 2018 Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hopewell Township, 2270 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa, PA Thursday, December 6, 2018 Saint Ferdinand Church, Cranberry Township, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township, PA Child sexual abuse by clergy has caused great suffering in the lives of survivors of abuse and concern among the faithful, Bishop Zubik said. These listening sessions are intended to be another way that we can support their continued healing.
