Infant Baptism: Celebrated at HSP on first and third Sundays at 2:00 p.m.; or at HSP and SNP, on a date and time agreed upon with the Priest. A Baptismal Seminar is required. Adult Initiation: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process sees to the needs of those who are inquiring about the faith of Catholics. At a convenient time, to be determined. Marriage: Consultation with the Pastor at least six months in advance is required. An initial interview must be scheduled, at which time further information will be provided. Anointing of the Sick / Communion Calls: For any parishioner at anytime, as long as the priest is available. You are encouraged to see the priest after Mass, but visits to hospitals and homes also can be made. Please anticipate; call in advance if you know you are going into the hospital in the near future, for surgery, etc. Confirmation: For adults (over 18) who have not been confirmed.

JIM S CORNER Consider this your first Christmas Card. It s not meant to be political but rather humorous and yet with a serious message. It is called: TWAS THE MONTH BEFORE CHRISTMAS! Twas the month before Christmas when all through the land, not a Christian was praying not taking a stand. The children were told by their schools not to sing about shepherds and wise men and angels and things. It might hurt people s feelings, the teachers would say, December 25 th is just a Holiday. CDs from Timberlake, Lady Gaga and I-Pads something was changing, something quite odd! As Target were hanging their trees upside down, at Lowe s the word Christmas was no where to be found. At Best Buy, Staples, Penney s and Sears you won t hear the word Christmas, it won t touch your ears. Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty are words that were used to intimidate me. To eliminate Jesus in all public matters, we spoke not a word; as they took away our faith forbidden to speak of salvation and grace. The true gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded; the reason for the season, stopped before it started. So as you celebrate Winter Break under your Dream Tree choose your words carefully, choose what you say, shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, NOT HAPPY HOLIDAY! Please, all Christians join together and wish everyone you meet MERRY CHRISTMAS. Christ is the Reason for the Christ-Mas Season! I always like to watch the old classic White Christmas and I thought the above would be appropriate. Irving Berlin did not write I m Dreaming of a White Holiday Season! Did Judy Garland sing Have Yourself a Merry Little Holiday Season? How about Elvis singing I ll have a Blue Holiday Season without You! Had enough already? I know I have! God Bless. Idi sa Bogom. Fr. Jim P.S. Hope springs eternal! You can hear Christmas music on two Pittsburgh FM stations 94.5 and They actually identify themselves as WE ARE YOUR CHRIST- MAS STATION. The word Christmas is in almost every song and you will find some carols using the words Jesus is born. How do they get away with it! The calendars make great gifts and the cost is $20. Winning numbers are based on the PA evening 3-digit number. ANGEL TREE Please take an angel from the tree. Purchase one (or more) of the suggestions listed, wrap the gift, attach the angel to the outside, and place it under the tree by Saturday, December 16th. Puno vam hvala i Bog vas blagoslovio! ZAHVALJUJEM TI, OCE BLASKO Father Zvonko Blasko has been named pastor of St. Paul s Croatian Parish in Cleveland. This is the same parish where he has served as a parochial vicar. His pastor has a serious illness and is in hospice care. While we congratulate Fr. Blasko on being named a pastor, his assignment also means that he will no longer be able to celebrate the monthly Croatian Mass here at Nicholas. His final Mass here will be on Sunday, Dec 17 th, at 12:00 Noon. In the new year, the Croatian Noon Mass will be discontinued as there is no other local priest available and/or capable of doing the entire Mass in the Croatian language. Once again, the reality of the shortage of priests with language skills is a real concern for many nationalities. Feast Day of St. Nicholas Wednesday, December 6th SPECIAL GIFT IDEA-PRAYER CARDS St. Nicholas Parish Prayer Cards include Birthday, Get Well and Congratulations and are available for a $25 donation. The names of those who receive the prayer cards are entered into our Parish Book of Prayer and remembered at all Masses. To view the cards, please call Jan Kopec at HRS CHRISTMAS PARTY will take place next Sun., Dec. 10 th at 10 AM in the church hall. All members are invited to join in as we celebrate this joyous season. A catered breakfast will be served and our annual Christmas Story will be read. All members are asked to bring a $5 gift to exchange during the story. After the party we will all gather to pray the Rosary at 11:30. 5 GIVING TO YOUR PARISH Part 2 How to initiate a Tax Free Gift from your IRA if you are over 70 ½ Years of Age: Call your IRA fund custodian/investor/broker. He/she may have a form for you to sign giving instructions regarding the charity(s) you wish to receive gifts and when to make these donations from your IRA. The fund custodian will then send a check made payable to the charity from your IRA minimum distribution or principal. (If requested, the check can be mailed to you to send out personally.) To avoid declaring the amount as taxable income, the check must be made payable to your parish, school or other charity. It is helpful to have the check send directly to you. You can then send it (with your name and address) to the charity, as many IRA custodians do not identify the donor s name and address when they send the check directly to the charity. The charity/parish/school, will send a special letter of acknowledgement to the donor indicating that the gift from the IRA was received and the date it was received. This will verify that the gift should not be claimed as taxable income. CONFESSION OPPORTUNITIES As we approach the Christmas Season, we wanted to remind you about the opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. EACH SATURDAY, confessions are heard at 11 am at HSP and following the 6 pm Mass at SNP. On Wednesday, December 13th, the annual THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU! opportunity will be held in every church in our diocese from 6-9 pm. Since we have only one priest, HSP will be open for the 6-9 pm time frame. St. Nicholas Church, however, will be closed. On Tuesday, December 19th, a COMMUNAL ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE will be held at HSP beginning at 7 pm. There will be four priests available for individual confessions. This will be the last opportunity for confession prior to Christmas. NOTE: No confessions on Saturday, Dec 24 th! THANK YOU TO ST. NICHOLAS CEMETERY COMMITTEE Now that our two parish cemeteries are under the direction of the Diocesan CPCA, our volunteer cemetery committee has been disbanded. Although they are no longer formally involved in the operation of the Hahn Site and Reserve Site, their 14 years of service will not be forgotten. They have kept diligent watch over all aspects of the cemeteries. We should all be grateful.
