Adult Initiation: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process sees to the needs of those who are inquiring about the faith of Catholics. At a convenient time, to be determined. Marriage: Consultation with the Pastor at least six months in advance is required. An initial interview must be scheduled, at which time further information will be provided. Anointing of the Sick / Communion Calls: For any parishioner at anytime, as long as the priest is available. You are encouraged to see the priest after Mass, but visits to hospitals and homes also can be made. Please anticipate; call in advance if you know you are going into the hospital in the near future, for surgery, etc. Confirmation: For adults (over 18) who have not been confirmed.

JIM S CORNER It appears that second collections are becoming a regular weekly event. While many of the special collections which happen annually have been consolidated, it seems there are more and more every week. This year, in particular, many more collections have been requested due to all the natural disasters occurring in our country and in our world. And because these collections are handled through the Propagation of the Faith, we can be confident that they are reaching those who have the greatest need. Parish Share is one of those annual campaigns that our diocese and the local church depend on. Therefore, I thought I would give you the latest figures for the 2017 Parish Share Campaign. Holy Spirit Parish has a target goal of $66,030. Since the end of September, we have received $30,720. That s a little less than 50% and it comes from 213 families. St. Nicholas Parish is in a better position at this time. Its target goal is $26,490. Since the end of September, $43,632 has been received. That is more than $15,000 over the targeted goal from 90 families. It should be noted that in the case of St. Nicholas, there are some very large gifts that the donors have designated for Parish Share. And, of course, if you go over your targeted goal, the parish reaps the revenue. We have about three months left in the Parish Share for This is an appeal to encourage more participation from additional families. The amount is not important but the participation is huge. I encourage parishioners to fulfill their pledges and if you have yet to make a pledge, please consider doing so! God Bless. Idi sa Bogom Fr. Jim BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE At Holy Spirit & St. Nicholas Churches During the month of November, dedicated to our beloved dead, in each church there will be a Book of Remembrance in which you will be able to write the names of your loved ones that will then be included in the prayers and Masses during the month of November. You will find the book in the front of the church near the sanctuary. Please write names in the book before or after Mass.

3 THIS WEEK AT HOLY SPIRIT PARISH CM/WG Meeting is Monday at 6:30 pm. Bell choir practice is Monday at 7 pm. Voice choir practice is Tuesday at 7 pm. Church cleaning is Wednesday at 8 am. Office is closed on Thursday (Thanksgiving) & Friday. NICHOLAS CEMETERIES TRANSITION OF CEMETERIES ADMINISTRATION This past Tuesday, November 14 th, the Catholic Parish Cemeteries Association (CPCA) transitioned our records to their administrative center. Because of this relocation of St. Nicholas cemetery records for both the Hahn and Reserve sites, any calls or inquires that are related to these cemeteries should be forwarded to the new administrative center. (This would include requests for burials, purchases, foundations, complaints, etc.). The CPCA Regional Office for all parish cemeteries in Allegheny County is housed in the former Guardian Angels Parish School, 1000 Logue St., Pittsburgh, PA Their office number is or cpca@cpca-pgh.org. The funeral homes have been made aware of the changes. For example, if you have a loved one who is to be buried in either of the St. Nicholas Cemeteries, the funeral home will make the call to the CPCA administrative center to schedule the burial. FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Friday, December 8 th, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. It is a holy day of obligation. Masses will be as follows: Vigil Mass on Thursday, December 7 th at 6:00 PM at St. Nicholas Church; 8:00 AM Mass on Friday, December 8 th at Holy Spirit Church; Noon Mass at St. Nicholas Church and 6 pm Mass at Holy Spirit. GERMAN DINNER THANK YOU! The recent German Dinner was a great success! Thanks to the Christian Mothers for cooking, donating and serving the food. Thanks to all other volunteers and to everyone who attended. All raffle baskets and the 50/50 were claimed or winners notified. This one-time-only change will allow the St. Nicholas Party, which follows the Mass, to take place at a more convenient hour. ST. NICHOLAS DAY PARTY Come and join us for our annual St. Nicholas Day Party on Saturday, December 2nd! We will have dinner, games and activities for all, following the 5:00 PM Mass (one-time change from the normal 6:00 PM Mass time). 5 DON T BURY YOUR TALENTS No one should be surprised that the master in today s Gospel chastises the servant who returns his talent without gaining any interest on it. We all are happy to receive a return on our investments. What do we do with the gifts and talents that God invests in us as His beloved sons and daughters? How do we make a return to Him and others in love by the things we say and do? In support of the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative we can t bury our talents in the sand. Instead, each of us as followers of Christ are called to look for ways to share our gifts with others through the Church. Gifts of service, teaching, relationships and expertise, among others, all work to build up the Kingdom of God and allow it to flourish in our communities. Discern the gifts that God has given you. Talk to your pastor about ways you can share your talents with the Church. Look for unmet needs around you and offer ideas about how they can be fulfilled. LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH At Holy Spirit & St. Nicholas Churches Once again, we are inviting families to participate in lighting of the Advent Wreath at all Masses both at Holy Spirit and St. Nicholas. Last year many families participated in this simple but beautiful sharing of the Advent spirit. The procedure is simple. The family approaches the wreath at the beginning of Mass and after the priest says the prayer, the family lights the candle(s) for that week. There is a signup sheet in the back of Holy Spirit and St. Nicholas Churches. All are welcome. You can be a family of one, a couple, or a family with children. Last year, one of the CCD Classes at Holy Spirit participated as a group. THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU! During the Advent and Lenten Season, every parish in our diocese participates in our evangelization initiative called The Light is On For You. This Advent Season it will be on WED., DECEMBER 13th, FROM 6-9 PM in Holy Spirit Church. The goal for the evening is to encourage those who may have been away from the Church for a long time to take advantage of this special night of grace. At the same time, it is hoped that Catholics who attend Mass regularly but have avoided Confession, might want to encounter the healing forgiveness of Jesus by returning to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Advent is a season of reconciliation and we all need to find mercy and healing through this sacrament. Beginning with the activities of Light Up Night on Friday, Nov 17 th, you will be hearing radio spots on various AM and FM stations with promotional spots which will include stories explaining why people return to Confession after a long absence.
