SEPTEMBER 23, 2018 TWENTY - FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Masses Saturday Vigil: 5:00 PM Sunday: 8:00 & 10:00 AM Weekdays: See schedule in bulletin Sacraments Baptisms are celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month after the 10:00 AM Mass. Pre-Baptismal classes are required. Contact the Parish Office for arrangements. Reconciliation: Saturdays 12:30-1:00 PM and after the 5:00 PM Mass. Visitation of the Sick or Shut-Ins: Inform the Parish Office when anyone is ill at home or in the hospital. Upon request, Holy Communion can be brought to the home by the priest and/or a Eucharistic Minister. Marriage: Contact Parish Office at least 6 months in advance of proposed date. Bulletin Deadline: All bulletin announcements must be received by Monday noon in written form. Preparation for Entering the Church (RCIA): We welcome those who are interested in becoming Catholics. To enter a program of formation and prayer, contact the Parish Office. Parish Membership: New parishioners are always welcome! Call the Parish Office for a census form. Let s not be too hasty in defining who is the wicked one and who (namely us) is just! We are very quick to label others as evil, because we tend to label ourselves as good guys. We don t like it when we are brought up short by a prophetic voice that brings us some bad news about our own behavior. We don t like to be reproached for transgressions of the law or charged with violations of our training. We may condemn and abuse those who bring us up against these truths about ourselves when, if we were really good, we would thank them for helping to keep us on the right path. All Saints Youth Theater Auditions for The Promise Open to youth ages 5-18 Auditions: October 1st and 5th - 4:00-7:00 PM Performances: December 14, 15 and 16 Rehearsals: Mondays, 4:30-8:30 PM; Fridays, 4:30-8:30 PM This Christmas, join the cast of All Saints Youth Theater in, The Promise, a beautifully moving musical with music by Michael Card and book by Bernadette Calvino. The Promise not only shares the wonder of Christmas through the birth of Christ but, more particularly it imparts the lasting impression His birth had on those who witnessed it. Enter this journey with us as we bring the first Christmas to life! Rehearsals begin October 8. Most actors will only rehearse one day a week until after Thanksgiving. Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be held at All Saints Parish, 19 Wilson St, Etna, Pa Monday Auditions will be held in the Activities Building. Friday Auditions will be held in the school. Web-site From the desk of the Administrator So, it s three weeks (21 days) from today that the On Mission for the Church Alive! initiative begins implementation! Are you ready? I have to say, I can t wait for things to get started. I am so looking forward to returning to parish life full-time. Yes, I know there will be headaches. However, they will be my headaches. Further, I have confidence in the gifts and talents of the clergy team to be able to celebrate the joys and overcome the issues that will inevitably transpire. How I long for this to get started! As I ve said a few times, we will need to continue working on our vocabulary. The first is that there is no us and them. There is only us. Further, that us is in the plural, meaning the FOUR parishes, not us as in just us at All Saints. Don t make this more complicated than it needs to be, because it isn t. How easy it is to fall into the vocabulary trap. I truly believe some folks have already done so when I keep hearing about the problems of the Mass schedule. We (the four parishes) have EIGHT opportunities on Sunday to gather around the table of the Lord 4:00 PM at St. Bonaventure (SBP); 6:00 PM at Holy Spirit (HSP); 7:30 AM at SBP; 8:30 AM at St. Nicholas (SNP); 9:00 AM at All Saints (ASP); 10:00 at SBP; 11:00 AM at HSP; and 11:30 at ASP. Better still, we have ELEVEN weekday opportunities to attend Mass M,T,Th,F at 6:40 AM at SBP; as well as the 8:00 AM Monday at HSP; 8:00 AM Tuesday at ASP; 8:00 AM Wednesday at SNP; 7:00 PM Wednesday at ASP; Thursday 8:00 AM at ASP; Friday 8:00 AM at HSP; and Saturday 8:00 AM at SNP. I bet you drive further to buy groceries than each of these parishes are from your house! LAST CALL: Remember that the All Saints School Grand Reunion is taking place this coming Saturday, 29 September. I again want to call your attention to an important fact about the event. We will have an earlier Mass that evening. Mass on September 29, 2018 will be at 4:00 PM rather than 5:00. Why? Last year when this event was being planned, there was to have been a new Mass schedule in effect. As you know, there IS a new schedule beginning on 15 October! Christian Mothers Meeting Christian Mothers meeting will be on Friday, October 5 beginning with Evening Prayer at 6:30 PM. We will install two new members. Rosary Coast To Coast In a nationwide united voice, we call upon God Almighty, through the intercession of our Lady of the Rosary to heal our country and return it to holiness. Americans across the country are invited to publicly pray Rosary Coast to Coast for Conversion, Life, Marriage and Religious Liberty from wherever they can gather. We are coordinating with all the churches in our new parish grouping Holy Spirit, St Nicholas and St Bonaventure in the simultaneous praying of this Rosary from our respective parishes. Join us in front of Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto on Dewey Street on October 7th at 4:00 PM. The choir is open to all youth, 1st grade through high school. Young children must be able to read. We meet weekly on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 PM beginning September 25! Contact the Religious Education office to sign up! Be the Last of All and the Servant of All Jesus offers this command connected with the announcement of his passion and death to his disciples. They didn t understand what Jesus meant when he said that he would suffer and die, and instead argued about who was the greatest among them. Yet, the Lord continues to work to prepare their hearts so that they might be ready for the suffering of the cross, and ultimately the glory of the resurrection. By putting others first and being the servant of all we are called to sacrifice, to be compassionate, literally to suffer with, and to open ourselves to others who will seek to do the same for us. All of this is rooted in the call to love others as if THEY are Christ and to love others as if WE are Christ. The On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative as a whole, and the implementation of the Interim Mass Schedule on October 15th, in particular, are opportunities for us to welcome and serve others with whom we are united in faith, hope and love. It may take sacrifice and a change of routine, but it can also bring about an increase of the love of Christ at work in us. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. Humility is a difficult virtue for BOX many of us to live up to. When we do things, we want people to notice. We want to be first in line for things, and not have to wait. We want to be the best at what we do. To an extent, that is not always a bad thing because it drives us to become better people and better followers of Jesus. However, it can quickly consume us and lead to a lack of humility. It can also be crippling because we are afraid to do the things we should for fear that we won t be the best at it. In this Sunday s Gospel, Jesus disciples were arguing who among them was greatest. Jesus admonished them that If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all. The second reading from St. James warns about the dangers of jealousy and selfishness and how it can lead to fighting and conflict. This is often born out of a lack of humility. St. James informs us that wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. We should pray for this wisdom to be bestowed on us, so that we can be more humble in doing the work of building God s kingdom each day. Yours in ministry, Tom Rishel
