JIM S CORNER I always think back to the old Wendy s commercial where an 81 year old woman named Clara Peller would go from one burger chain to the other and ask Where s the beef? The intent of the commercial was to plant in the minds of people that there was not much substance in the product offered by the competition. The question on Easter morning, though, wasn t where s the beef? but rather, Where s the body? What happened to the body of Jesus? The gospels tell us that when the body of Jesus was discovered missing on Easter morning, the woman who came to the tomb started dashing around like Clara Peller looking for a decent meal. All the gospels give a slightly different account of what actually happened that first Easter morning, but they all agree on one thing. The panic-stricken followers at the tomb of Jesus were told either by an angel or by the risen Jesus himself to go back to the group and wait. It was clear that they were not to try to find Jesus body by themselves. It was to the community of believers that the Holy Spirit came and it was from this group gathered in prayer as a community that the apostles went forth to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Resurrection. If you are here in Church for Easter Mass then that means that somehow you too have made it back to the community. Maybe your mother made you come. Maybe Grandma said be in church or no Easter dinner for you. But while you are here, look around. You have found Christ s Body. His Church, the Body of Christ, has had its share of scandals and some will say that the church is old-fashioned and irrelevant. However, you will never find a perfect church to join. After Jesus rose from the dead he went back to the church with the same old sinners. So if you bump into people today who are less than perfect, join the crowd. It took faith to poke through an empty tomb and conclude that Jesus has risen from the dead. It take faith now to poke through this church community and find that Jesus is alive here in our church. If you keep coming back, you will find that evidence. You will find people here who are full of the Holy Spirit and the joy of Easter and the love of God and neighbor. 3 Happy Easter! To be a Christian is to be on the way, announcing the good news of the risen Christ through spiritual attitudes of poverty of being, humility, compassion and openness of heart and mind. DYING AND RISING We are a people who are changed by the dying and rising of our Lord Jesus Christ. This Paschal Mystery is reflected in the natural process of death to new life. We see this all around us and in our own lives. For example, we experience dying and rising each year in the change of seasons. Jesus passion, death, resurrection, and ascension are the ultimate event of dying and rising, of death to new life. Jesus shows us that new life can come from death, that we can find meaning in difficult times of pain and suffering. Jesus suffering, death, and new life has forever changed us and given us a different way of living. Death no longer has the last word. ALLELUIA! HE IS RISEN! EASTER JOY Easter is a time of joy and new life as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the gift of eternal life. This new life in Christ requires change in our lives and, while change is never easy, it opens the door to opportunity and growth.

Numbers are effective from date of purchase. HSP SANCTUARY CANDLE INTENTIONS Sanctuary candles are lit for seven days for $25 and are a beautiful way to remember your loved ones. There are still weeks available for Contact Lynda at the parish office on Mondays or Tuesdays to make your request. CRS RICE BOWLS Don t forget to turn in your Lenten Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl donations. There are baskets in the sanctuary area of both churches where the rice bowls can be placed. This is a special way of responding to global issues of hunger, migration and poverty. Thank you for your contribution. THANK YOU! The collection, sponsored by the Christian Mothers in connection with the Anointing Mass, totaled $901. 7 FOURTH REGIONAL SCHOOL APPROVED AS PART OF NHRCES The North Hills Regional Catholic Elementary School Board of Directors has received approval for the merger of Assumption School in Bellevue and the current Northside Catholic Schools for the school year. This school will become the fourth school in the NHRCES system which includes Blessed Seelos Academy, Blessed Trinity Academy and Holy Cross Academy. The new school will use the Brighton Heights campus since the overall conditions at the Northside Catholic building includes a gymnasium and integral cafeteria which are not available at the Assumption Campus. HELPING THOSE WHO HELP OTHERS Many parish youth groups throughout our diocese participate in an annual summer ministry which takes them to Appalachia. Groups of youth from other parishes as well as other faiths work together to help repair porches and steps, paint houses and spend time with the residents who are grateful for a warm smile. Since we do not have our own youth ministry, some of our young parishioners have teamed up to be a part of the St. Scholastica (Aspinwall) summer mission trip. There are a lot of expenses involved to make this week long trip happen renting of transportation is usually quite costly as well as the purchasing of building materials. Next weekend, April 7-8, our young parishioners and their families will be at the doors of the church to solicit free-will donations to assist their cause. Your monetary donation helps in two ways: allowing these young people to experience memories for life and to work and assist those in Appalachia who need this help the most. EASTER BLESSING OF FAMILIES This afternoon, Bishop David Zubik together with his brothers Auxiliary Bishop William Waltersheid and Retired Auxiliary Bishop William Winter will welcome families of the Diocese of Pittsburgh to the Annual Blessing of Families at Saint Paul Cathedral in Oakland at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to the Cathedral to receive this special Blessing imparted by our bishops as they also take the opportunity to thank families for the beautiful witness of love and faith that they share with us. Prior registration is necessary. A formation session for parents is also required. RECONCILIATION: The Sacrament of Penance is offered on Saturdays at 11 am at HSP and on Saturdays following the 6 pm Mass at SNP. Other times are available by appointment. FIRST COMMUNION: First Holy Communion is usually celebrated in the Spring. Children candidates are expected to be enrolled in the parish CCD program. CONFIRMATION: Children preparing for confirmation are expected to be enrolled in the parish CCD program. Any adult (over 18) should contact the CCD Office for their formation preparation. MARRIAGE: Potential couples wishing to be married in our Catholic Church must contact the priest at least six months before the desired date. No date can be guaranteed until the couple has met with one of the parish priests. ANOINTING OF THE SICK: The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can be administered by a priest at anytime as long as the priest is available. Two Communal Anointing of the Sick Masses are offered during the year in the fall and in the spring. RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is open to any adult interested in becoming a Roman Catholic Christian through a program of formation and prayer.
