The wooden boxes at our church exits are easy ways for parishioners to contribute to the parish conference s mission. We have helped with fuel assistance, rent subsidy, food and vouchers for households in need, support for the Harvard Square Churches Meal Program, and support for out-of-state and international relief efforts. 4 From the Pastor s Desk. Cambridge, MA On behalf of the entire staff, I wish you, and your families and friends, a very blessed and wonderful Easter Season. And to those who are visiting us, we warmly welcome you to our parish. This is truly the season of joy and celebration. Joy that the love of God has been made manifest to us in the resurrection of Jesus. Celebration that we are yet again invited to share in Divine Life! Here at Saint Peter Parish our liturgical services for this special season center around the theme of Welcome and Belonging to everyone! Easter is the great season of New Life. May we all be filled with that life and may we spread it to those we encounter along the journey of life! My heartfelt thanks to all those who planned and participated in our beautiful Holy Week liturgies our children and adult choirs, musicians, cantors, and music director; our deacons, acolytes, lectors, greeters, ushers, Eucharistic ministers, florist, and arts and environment ministers; and most of all, our parishioners (especially those who are unable to be with us), and guests, who are the very life of our liturgical celebrations! Are You Interested in Learning More About the Catholic Faith? Perhaps you have been worshiping with us, but have never took steps to become Catholic or perhaps you have joined us from a different denomination but are now being called to the Catholic Church. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process through which non-baptized individuals or those baptized in another denomination become members of the Catholic Church. This process is also available to someone who may have been baptized Catholic but has not received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. To learn more about the RCIA program at St. Peter s please call Anna Molettieri at x117 or at amolettieri@saintpetercambridge.org. 4 First Communion Prayer Partners As our children prepare to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist in May, we invite the St. Peter community to support and encourage them through prayer. We invite you to sign the picture board, located in the transept left of the altar, to become a prayer partner to the children. Please include them in your daily prayers and with the community during weekend liturgies. Know that our children appreciate the power of your prayers, which the Lord always hears. 5 April 16, 2017 How to Pray - Lectio Divina Workshop Saturday, May13, 8:45 a.m. - Noon, Parish Ctr How do monks pray? This morning workshop will present the monastic practice of Lectio Divina (the prayerful reading of scripture) and suggest ways for following this practice in daily living. Led by Fr. Nicholas, a Benedictine monk and former Abbot of Glastonbury Abbey, a monastery in Hingham. He has taught and lead retreats at the abbey and elsewhere for many years. Join us on Saturday morning, May 13, 8:45-noon in the Parish Center. A light breakfast and coffee will be served. Please RSVP to Anna Molettieri at amolettieri@saintpetercambridge.org or x117 We Need You to Bring the Eucharist to Our Neighbors Who Cannot Be With Us Our parish has a growing ministry to bring communion to people who are in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, as well as to people who are homebound. Please consider volunteering! This is a wonderful way to share our Eucharistic banquet with those who are nearby but unable to be with us. You can fit this ministry to your own schedule, in as little as an hour or two a week, on weekdays or weekends. No prior experience is needed. Deacon Tim O Donnell and his wife Elke will provide training and help with the logistics. Food Pantry Needs We currently need: Breakfast cereal, salad dressing, parmesan cheese, condiments, salsa, coffee creamer, honey, milk (such as Parmalat), juice, healthy snacks such as granola bars, dried fruit and fruit cups. You may leave your donations in baskets at the church doors. Thank you! Easter Sunday the Resurrection of the Lord First Communion Retreat On Saturday, April 8th, twenty-two of our young parishioners, along with parents, participated in a retreat where they experienced hands on various aspects of the sacrament they are preparing to receive on May 6 and 7. Thanks to all who helped to organize and run this wonderful event, especially parents, who enthusiastically acted as their children s teachers and facilitators. It was a memorable lesson in how to pass on our faith! Thanks for the Cards and Palm Crosses For the last few weeks, our religious education students have been making Easter cards. On Palm Sunday, they made palm crosses. The cards and crosses are given by our Eucharistic Ministers to those in our community who are unable to join us for our Lent and Easter liturgies. Thanks to our thoughtful young parishioners. And we are grateful to our ministers who visit individuals and groups to bring them the Eucharist, visit and pray with them, and assure them that our entire parish community shares our Easter joy with all. 5
