Your registration is important; it helps us to know those we serve. It is also necessary if you wish to be certified as an active member to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor. Stewardship: Christians share their talents, time and treasure to carry on the work of the Church. Your offerings are essential to St. Ignatius Church, for us to maintain our staffing, programs and buildings. Cemetery: There are grave sites available for parishioners in the new section at the base of the hill. Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Washington administers the sale of lots and burial. Because we do not have an adequate endowment, the costs of maintenance come from general parish funds. The phone number for Catholic Cemeteries is Reconciliation: Saturdays 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., or by appointment. Matrimony: Registered parishioners planning to be married at St. Ignatius must contact the pastor at least six months before the wedding. Baptism: Parents planning to have their child baptized attend baptism classes which are offered the first Saturday of February, April, June, August, October and December. Please or call the Religious Education office to register for the class. Consider doing so, before your child is born. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: If you would like to learn about becoming a Catholic, please contact the Religious Education Office. Classes begin at the end of the summer.

Confirmation commitment This Sunday, we celebrate the Confirmation of our young people. We ask you to congratulate and pray for our confirmands. Over the long term, we might best encourage their growth in faith by growing in faith ourselves, to support them along the way as parents, neighbors and ordinary models of faith and action. This is an opportunity for those of us who have been confirmed 10, 20, 50 or more years ago to revisit our need to continue to grow in understanding and faith. There is very little in life where our eighth grade understanding is sufficient to carry us through life. That is especially true in Christianity. Teachers, financial and legal advisors, medical professionals, mechanics, virtually all workers need to update on procedures, technology, safety or some other concerns. How could being a Christian be any different? Following Christ is a life time commitment, which we as Catholics confirm in this sacrament. Not only does God give us grace in this sacrament, but the Church seeks to assist us in developing a more complete and thoughtful acceptance of God s truths in our lives. For the past few years we have given copies of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to our confirmands. It is a source for them to continue to learn about what the Church teaches and why. You may find the online version of the catechism helpful, because of its easy word search. It is available along with many other aids on the website of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops: A warm welcome to Bishop Knesnout who will confirm our young people this Sunday at 2 p.m. Please remember them all in your prayers. Reese Sine, Michelle Starcher, Zachary Swann, Clara Watkins, and Banks Wills. Sincere sympathy to Joyce and Keech Edelen and their family on the passing of their son in law, Wayne Willett, Jr., who died suddenly this past Sunday. His funeral Mass and burial were held at St. Joseph s, Pomfret on Friday. Please remember them in your prayers.

3 Free Dinner and Discussion for Young Adults: Are you a young adult ages 18-30s? Pope Francis and our parish want to hear from you! In preparation for the Synod next year, Pope Francis wants you input on the topic of Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment. Young adults are invited to join Fr. Clifford for dinner and discussion at St. Ignatius on Sunday, April 30 th at 7PM (immediately following the 6PM Mass). Share your opinion online at Parish Picnic June 17 Join with the parish in one more grand celebration of our 375 th anniversary. There will be shuttle buses to take you down to Chapel Point Park. There, some of you will remember the days of your youth, roller skating, dancing, swimming and feasting. Others can discover how the Point was a vital part of the life of our parish and county. Back on top of the hill there will be field games, crafts and food. This will be a day of memories and fun as a parish community. Please mark it on your calendars. Also, we need volunteers! Sign up to help are in the back of the church Lenten Food Drive Thank you to all that generously donated to the Lenten Food Drive. We collected 1,642 pounds of food that was taken to the Wayside Food Bank for distribution. Wayside Food Bank Report On Saturday, April 22, WFB served 31 families; which represents 62 adults, 10 teens and 18 children, for a total of 90 individuals served. It couldn t be accomplished without the generosity of our contributors and the donations-both of food and funds-of our community. Thank you for helping to feed the hungry in the southern Charles County area. The Gift Shop Reminder: Confirmation is April 30 and First Communion is May 7, if you need a gift for these special occasions. The gift shop also has copies of Ignatian Examen, the book recommended during the parish mission/retreat. It offers 30 ways to reflect on your day and spiritual desires and need for tomorrow. A new series of children books has also been added to the inventory. These books are designed for ages 4-11, to link Bible stories sacraments, and the Mass to their everyday lives. The gift shop will be open every Sunday after 9 am, 11 am, and 6 pm Masses. We need volunteers to help in the gift shop. Contact Mary Agnes, , if you are interested. Registration Forms We are updating ALL REGISTRATION records. If you registered prior to January 2017, you and your family need to complete a new registration form. If we don t hear from you, we will assume you no longer attend here and your registration record will be removed from the parish roles. Please turn in your registration form by mail or just drop it in the collection. Light the World! is a Summer Institute that takes place at The Catholic University of America. Rising Juniors and Seniors are invited to join us either June 25-July 1 OR July 9-15 as we explore how our faith is lived within the fields and careers of Art, Science, Sport, Business, and Politics. 4 St. Ignatius Church-Chapel Point, 35rd Annual Rosary Pilgrimage Saturday, May 14, Join the celebration to honor Our Blessed Mother on the 100 th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima appearing to the shepherd children. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. in the church. It will be followed by a procession led by the Knights of Columbus to the Shrine of Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary. Our First Communion children will crown Mary at the Shrine, and we will pray the Living Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus. Light refreshments will follow in the parish hall courtesy of the Catholic Daughters. Questions? Call Brenda Canter in the parish office. Fr. Clifford s interview For those that didn t see Fr. Clifford s interview on the local station; here s the link: Religious Education Confirmation: All Confirmation candidates and their sponsors should report to the parish hall at 1PM on Sunday to make their final preparations for the sacrament of Confirmation. Mass with Bishop Knestout will begin in the church promptly at 2PM. Arrive early for good seats! First Communion: All First Communicants should be dropped off at the parish hall at 10:30AM on Sunday, May 7 th to make their final preparations prior to making their First Communion. Mass with Fr. Clifford will begin in the church promptly at 11AM, so arrive early for good seats! CCD: There will be no CCD classes this weekend. Rice Bowls Due: Participants in the CRS Rice Bowl initiative should return their rice bowls before Sunday, May 21 st. Rice Bowls can be dropped off in the collection basket, outside the Religious Education office, and in the parish office during regular office hours. Vacation Bible School: This summer s VBS program, Mighty Fortress, will take place from Monday, July 10 th to Friday, July 14 th. Registration forms and counselor applications are available online, at the back of the church, and outside the Office for Religious Education. Youth Group: Students and chaperons attending the Steubenville Youth Conference should attend an informational meeting at 6PM in the parish hall on Tuesday, May 2 nd. Our regular Youth Night will follow, beginning at 7PM in the Religious Education office. We will be discussing Just War Theory and the Principle of Double Effect in moral decision making. Baptism Prep: Need to have your child baptized? Our next Baptism Prep class will take place on Saturday, June 3 rd at 10AM in the Religious Education office. Please contact Shannon Whitmore if you are interested in attending. Office Hours: The Religious Education office will be open Sunday, April 30 th from 12NN-9PM, Tuesday, May 2 nd from 10AM- 9PM, and Thursday, May 4 th from 2-7PM. VBS Snack Coordinator Needed: We are in need of an adult to volunteer as the Snack Coordinator for this summer s VBS program. Volunteers would be responsible for executing the snack session for all three VBS groups. Coordinator manuals, materials, and all food supplies will be provided. Easter Flowers Thanks to Brenda and Dick Mudd who decorated the church; and all who donated to help decorate the church this Easter. If you made a flower donation and would like a flower to take home, they are on the back steps of the church.

5 MEALS ON WHEELS Would you like to join a network of volunteers who meet one of the many needs of Charles County s homebound seniors? Then we need you! Charles County Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteer drivers, coordinators and Board Members to help serve the needs of homebound seniors in Charles County. The Restorers of Mount Carmel Annual Italian Dinner and Horse Race fund raiser will be on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church in the Friendship Room, La Plata, Maryland. Dinner is from 6 to 7:30 PM and includes a Gourmet Italian Buffet with Desserts, Soft Beverages and a Cash Bar. Horse races begin promptly at 7. Admission, which includes dinner and the races, is $20. Space is limited, so register early! To buy a horse or make dinner reservations contact Sharon Vaughan or Dan Bowes Envelope contributors: For those that didn t contribute because they didn t receive their second collection envelope for CRS, you will get one in your May envelopes. Apparently, the archdiocese contacted our envelope company and had the CRS envelope included in the May envelopes you will receive. The archdiocese also added an envelope for May for the new dome at the National Shrine. Prayer List We re starting a new prayer list. There are many names that have been on the list for many years-and we aren t sure what their status is; living, deceased, still in need of prayer. We are happy to include anyone that needs prayer; and ask that you send your names via to Brenda Canter in the parish office or please don t hesitate to call her; or even write the name and put it in the collection basket marked prayer list.
