2 LOVE GOD TOUCH ME I have always been deeply moved when Carol Stettler stands before us and proclaims the Word of God. I am in awe to hear the Word of God come from her lips. She is able to do so because of her touch as she glides her fingers across the Braille page. Touch is so important to us. In Luke s gospel Jesus extends an invitation to us, Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have (Luke 24:39b). Like the disciples, we also need to touch Jesus so we can know for sure He is real and not a dream. We need to touch Him in prayer, in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and especially in the Eucharist. Just as important is our need to touch Him in the poor, the marginalized, the forgotten of society and the homeless. This is important because it authenticates our encounters with Him in the other ways in which we can touch Him. We need to touch Him in prayer to learn that He is always near and in fact walks with us on the journey of life. We need to touch Him in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament to realize He is the One who saves us. We need to touch Him in the Eucharist to remember He is our food and drink for the journey. We need to touch Him in the poor, the marginalized, the forgotten of society and the homeless that we may realize He has flesh and bones as we can see He has. The invitation to touch Him is an invitation to believe and form a personal relationship. The disciples touch shattered any doubts or questions they may have had because they saw the Risen Lord. They saw the wounds of crucifixion. These wounds are the doorway through which we pass. They are how He won for us our salvation. These wounds will always be there in the Risen Lord for all eternity as a reminder of what He has done for us. In John s gospel Jesus invited Thomas to touch his wounds that he might believe. If this is true for the disciples, it is also true for us today. It is so important for a newborn baby to be touched, to be held, to be cuddled, because through this human touch the child learns that he/she is loved. I heard somewhere that we adults need twelve hugs a day. This is exactly what Jesus does when He invites us to touch Him shows us that He loves us. In Luke s gospel it is touch and see. In John s gospel it is touch and believe. Seeing is believing and believing is seeing only with the eye of love. Hugo of St. Victor once said, and I like this, Love is the eye. This week touch the Lord Jesus not just once but once or twice each day. Most important is to touch Him one in the poor, the marginalized, the forgotten of society and the homeless because we need to remember He has flesh and bones. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Dennis REFLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK APRIL 22 As you go through the week, think about these questions in relation to today s readings: Adults: Whom are you shepherding in your life this week, and who shepherds you? Kids: Who has been like a shepherd to you by their example? For whom could you be a shepherd? COME TO COR JESU! All are invited to continue to grow in intimate prayer with Praise & Worship music and the Sacraments at COR JESU. Cor Jesu is a Latin phrase for "Heart of Jesus." It is an opportunity for anyone in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to continue to encounter Christ through Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation, Praise & Worship, and Mass. Cor Jesu is hosted by St. Robert in the main sanctuary. It occurs every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm. Please consider joining Coffee and Conversations for Caregivers, a monthly small group discussion for caregivers. Members of the Shorewood Dementia Awareness Work Group facilitate the discussion covering the ins and outs of caregiving. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS SUNDAY, APRIL 22 We encourage you to pray for vocations today, the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Consider pledging to pray for vocations at This site was inspired by a call from Rome urging Catholics to organize an invisible monastery in which many persons, day and night, are committed to continuous prayer for priestly vocations. Instead of being just a church that welcomes and receives by keeping the doors open, let us try also to be a church that finds new roads, that is able to step outside itself and go to those who do not attend Mass, to those who have quit or are indifferent.
