2 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Sometimes I am amazed at how people do not read a question or because the answer is in the question, they believe it to be a trick. To give an example here are a number of responses from a recent religious education test. On what day of the week does Ash Wednesday fall? Answer March On what day of the week does Easter Sunday fall? Answer April These are just a few examples of how we fail to communicate. We are in a hurry so we do not hear or see the obvious. Constantly I ask people to take a little time out to clear our minds and make space for God. If we fail to communicate at a human level because we are in a hurry, so too we will fail to communicate with God if we are rushed and busy and annoyed. So when you pray or come to church give yourself space to clear the mind and be still so that you can know that God is with you. Remember the gospel, Jesus goes away to a quiet place to pray and be alone with God.. Help us in Church to create that quiet space so that we can be alone and be with God. St. Francis Xavier is collecting food on 9/2 and 9/3 Canned vegetables, canned fruits, macaroni and cheese, pasta, rice, instant oatmeal, cereals, cereal bars, canned soups, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, hot cocoa, canned pasta sauce, tomatoes, canned pastas (ie: Spaghetti O s), canned chili, beans, canned pasta sauce, canned tuna, canned chicken, and individual snacks such as granola bars, fruit chews, snacks, pudding, applesauce, cookies, crackers, chips, raisins, and cheese and crackers. Together we can end hunger in our own community. Thank You Thanks to all who came out and volunteered at the end of Summer Fest and Cruise in. Thanks to you we were able to raise more money for the rectory fund. Plus, we had the best turnout for a summer blood drive yet. Over 35 pints of blood were donated. Thank you. Next year will be even better! The Knights of Columbus will be selling vocation raffle and beef raffle tickets after all the masses. Stop by the knights table in the narthex and purchase yours today! Parenting Young Children The group will meet on the first Monday of the month at St. Francis Xavier Church from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. The group is open to mothers and /or fathers of young children8th grade. This is a free support group to help parents with a variety of issues including discipline, family bonding, communication and management. (no children, please, at the group). Questions-- please call Carol at (815) The September meeting date is MONDAY, September 11, 2017 Sing to the Lord!! Adults are invited and welcome to sing with the Adult Choir! Choir members give of their time to serve in this ministry and assist in leading the congregation in song. Weekly rehearsals have resumed and are on Thursdays from 7:00-8:30. The Youth Choir is in need of young voices to keep this ministry going. Children ages 8-16 are needed and encouraged to join and serve in this ministry. Children learn various aspects of choral singing by praising God through song. Rehearsals would be begin in October. A signup sheet will be forth coming. Consider giving your time and talent to the music ministry of Saint Francis Xavier by volunteering as a cantor and prayerfully leading the assembly in song during worship. If you play a musical instrument proficiently, you are invited to share your gifts periodically in the music during Mass. What is Cursillo? Kristopher & Susanne Gurney Cursillo in Christianity is primarily a lay movement. It is an instrument of renewal by which Christianity can permeate, live, and grow in today s world. To explain a Cursillo to someone who has never experienced it is difficult and somewhat mystifying. The reason behind the mystery is God. Blanket Ministry These blankets are either sewn, quilted, knitted, crocheted or fleece-tied by volunteers who pray while making the blanket. Once completed, a card is attached to the blanket and then blessed by Fr. Karl. The blessed blankets are presented to the recipients letting them know that they remain in our thoughts and prayers even if they cannot be with us at Mass. We are now seeking volunteers to use their time, talent and material to help replenish our supply of blankets. Some material has recently been donated to the ministry for those who can sew or quilt. For those who knit or crochet, there are patterns available for prayer shawls. God touches each person in His special/unique way throughout the movement. For some, it is a total turnabout in their lives; for others, it is a grand awakening; yet, for others, it is an enrichment of what they have already known and have been living. 4 Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults RCIA is a spiritual journey into the Catholic faith. It is an exploration of Catholic teachings, traditions, and practices. Participants attend weekly sessions which begin in the fall each year. It is a process whereby adults become fully participating members of the church through a series of rites, which conclude at the Easter Vigil service in the spring. Each person is supported by sponsors and the prayers of the entire church community. RCIA is for those who: NOTICE OF AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PROJECT. A parishioner has requested donations of broken and damaged toys that can be repaired or used for parts. No toy will be refused. Toys can be dropped off at the church or call Phil at ) have not been baptized; 2.) have been baptized in another faith and now wish to join the Catholic church; or 3.) have been baptized in the Catholic faith but have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and/or Eucharist.
