Bags of Hope Bags of Hope fills backpacks with food every week, delivering them to roughly 190 kids right here in Plainfield School District 202 whose families are struggling to make ends meet at home. St. Francis Xavier is collecting food on 7/7 and 7/8. Canned vegetables, canned fruits, macaroni and cheese, pasta, rice, instant oatmeal, cereals, cereal bars, canned soups, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, hot cocoa, canned pasta sauce, tomatoes, canned pastas (ie: Spaghetti O s), canned chili, beans, canned pasta sauce, canned tuna, canned chicken, and individual snacks such as granola bars, fruit chews, snacks, pudding, applesauce, cookies, crackers, chips, raisins, and cheese and crackers. Together we can end hunger in our own community. 2 A Message from Pastor Dear Brothers and Sisters, This week we celebrate Independence Day. Very often we in the western world take our freedoms for granted. In fact we can be quite complacent about them. We have the right to vote but we do not exercise it and then complain. We take it for granted. We have religious freedom and again we can be complacent. All rights can be taken away or lapse if we are not vigilant. As we celebrate our independence let us give thanks for the founding fathers who had the wisdom to and vision to realize that there were freedoms that needed to be universal. Let us celebrate and enjoy the day but let us always be vigilant so that we do not lose our freedom. May God continue to bless and protect us. 3 Catholic Charities Back to School Fair The 26th Annual Will County Back to School Fair, coordinated by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Joliet Catholic Academy (1200 N. Larkin Avenue) in Joliet. This annual summer event is a major countywide effort to help families who are living on low-incomes access important services to begin the school year on a positive note. Children who attend the fair will receive free medical and dental services; vital information about local programs and services; and a new backpack with school supplies! Each child attending the fair must be accompanied by an adult. Parent/guardian must bring the following items in order to receive supplies and services for their children at the fair: Identification for all household members: Adults: state I.D. or driver s license; passport; Mexican consulate I.D. Children: birth certificate, social security card, medical card, Mexican consulate I.D. Proof of Income: Printouts from: public aid, social security, unemployment, SNAP, link card, check stub, or medical card. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:(Family Centered Faith Formation) Registration takes place from May through August. Classes begin in September and are held twice a month on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT is held on Tuesday from 5-8p.m. and on Thursday after the 9:15 am Mass until 10:45a.m. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATIONS: We are delighted to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism & Marriage within our parish for registered families. If you have any questions, please contact our parish office, SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION: Reconciliation: Confessions are every Saturday from 3:30 to 4:15 pm, Wednesday from 5:45 to 6:15 pm and by appt.. Baptisms: Are celebrated on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. Call the church office for open dates. Marriages: Please contact the parish office at the beginning of your wedding planning to check if your wedding date is available and to start the marriage preparation process. A minimum of six(6) months in advance of your wedding date is a requirement of the Joliet diocese. Weddings are celebrated at Noon or 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Quinceanara Must contact the parish 3 months prior to the requested date RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For adults interested in becoming Catholic, RCIA prepares them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. Adult Catholics in need of Confirmation are also invited. The formal program meets weekly from October through May.
