Day Web site St. Paul Catholic School Eagle Update Deeply Rooted in Knowledge, Faith, and Family Since 1930 FORGIVE AND YOU WILL BE FORGIVEN Luke 6:37 Sunday, December 2nd, is the First Sunday of Advent. Advent comes from the Latin word coming. We are waiting the coming of the Christ child on Christmas Day. The most common symbol of Advent is the Advent wreath which holds four candles symbolizing hope, peace, joy and love. As a family, take time this week to decorate your home by making an Advent wreath. Set the wreath in a place of prominence where the family can gather to pray and prepare their heart for the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus. A good way to do this is to use the Advent Reflection Booklet found in the Brown Envelope this week. In this booklet you will find a reflection and a practical practice for each day in Advent. Set aside time as a family to read and reflect and act on these suggestions. Another family project is the REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR. Please see the attached sheet for details. Mission Statement Inspired by the charism of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, the mission of St. Paul Catholic School is to provide students with a foundation for life through faith, academics, and service and to assist students in developing their gifts and talents, so that they may fulfill the plan God has for their lives. The feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our blessed Mother is Saturday, Dec. 8th. This feast is a holy day of obligation, and thus all Catholics are to participate in Mass. The vigil Mass at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7th and Mass on Saturday, December 8th is at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. OPEN HOUSE We will hold an Open House for new families interested in registering their children for the school year, on Sunday, December 2nd from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (after the 9:30 Mass). Please pass this information on to your relatives and friends who might be interested in applying for registration in the coming year. Students will give tours and the administration and faculty will be available to answer questions. If you have a child who is not currently enrolled in St. Paul Catholic School but who you wish to enroll for the school year, please contact Sister Joan. SENIOR CHRISTMAS SALE FOR STUDENTS On Tuesday, December 4th, from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m., St. Paul Young at Heart Club, will hold their annual Christmas Sale for our students. This is an opportunity for the students to do their Christmas shopping for parents and siblings right here in our gym. If your child is in EC, Kindergarten, or Gr. 1, his/her teacher will be sending you information regarding this sale. All proceeds from this sale come directly to the school.

Msgr. Gibbons will lead a land-sea pilgrimage to Greece next year following the missionary journeys of St. Paul. Dates are October 9 to 19, Among the places visited in mainland Greece are Athens, Thessalonika, Philippi, and Corinth. This also includes a 3-night cruise, with stops on the islands of Mykonos, Patmos, Crete, & Santorini (plus Ephesus on the coast of Turkey.) Brochures and pricing will be available soon. There will be a Special Travel Presentation about the pilgrimage in the Franciscan Room of the Parish Center Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 6 p.m. A representative of Collette, the travel agency will be present. Somehow, Barnes & Noble had to make this change. Thanks for your support and watch for more details as to time and school purchase code number. We remember in prayer all our sick relatives, benefactors and friends especially Mark Borden, uncle of Sarah and Ben Hoffman; Silverio Salamanca, grandfather of Isaiah VwanWanzeele; John Anson, father of Ms. Alonzo, 8th grade teacher; Joe Baxter, brother-in-law of Sister Joan; Henry Danecki, grandfather of Ava, Gavin and Ethan Danecki; Andrew Burke, father of Mrs. Laurie Spoor, Title 1 teacher; Tiffani Moore, aunt of Gavin Sparks; and babies Tiana & Charlotte Huepenbecker, cousins of Brennan Huepenbecker. We also remember in prayer all of our deceased relatives, friends and benefactors especially Sister Luke Marie Capling, SNJM, aunt of Teddy and Calliope Kafantaris. 3 REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR Advent is just around the corner. Many families follow an Advent calendar where they receive something each day. How about doing something a little different this year? Create an Advent calendar that you and your children put something into every day instead of taking something out. Read on to find out more about Reverse Advent calendars, and how to make one yourself! Reverse Advent calendars work by you filling them every day with items of food that can then be taken to a food bank or charity in order to help those less fortunate who are struggling at Christmas time. Our charity/food bank will be St. Vincent de Paul. After gathering helpful items all month, you will bring them to school in a box to school on December 20 th. Arrangements have been made to deliver the boxes to St. Vincent de Paul food bank the morning of the 20 th before we break for Christmas vacation. What a wonderful feeling it will be to know you ve given a Christmas present to someone who really needs food. Not only is this a fun thing for the whole family to do together, from creating the advent calendar structure itself to picking the goodies to go in the box. More importantly, this teaches your children the importance of helping others and seeing the bigger picture at Christmas. When I was hungry, you gave me food.
