2 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Joyful mysteries of the rosary begin with the Annunciation. The Angel Gabriel was sent to Nazareth to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph and the virgin s name was Mary You have a young woman probably preparing for an arranged marriage negotiated on her behalf by her parents and on to that scene comes a messenger Gabriel. It must have been terrifying even for one who knew the scriptures. Mary s reaction in the turmoil seems calm and her responses and actions are also very calm and deliberate. She reaches out to the one person who will understand, her cousin Elizabeth. Together the two women can reflect on what is happening while helping each other. As we read on in this account the makeup of the rosary is here. We have the words of the prayer we use in every decade The Hail Mary.. It s all here in the opening verses of the Gospel. From the very beginnings the prayer it is scripturally based. We are praying about the life of Christ. We announce the event, we use prayers that come from the gospels and as we pray them we reflect on the event. The third mystery of the joyful mysteries is the Nativity the birth of Christ and the angels proclaim Glory to God in the highest and we say after every decade Glory be to the Father the.. And then we announce and we pray the prayer Jesus gave us. The fourth decade Jesus is presented according to Jewish custom in the temple. Joseph and Mary are not wealthy people so the offering again according to custom is the doves. The final decade of the Joyful mysteries is the finding of the child Jesus in the temple. You could call this Mystery a reflection on Jesus s teenage years. He is becoming aware of Himself as God and Man realizing what his work is about and his rebellion is to stay behind in the temple beginning the work of His Father, but as a true teenage boy he does not realize the pain and suffering it will cause Joseph and Mary. He is doing his thing and that s what is important and real to him at that moment in time. As we pray we journey with Jesus and we reflect on his life and how we can learn more and understand that this person is real God and Man. He had a life, he struggled, he rebelled he lived and as we pray the rosary we journey through the events that are our salvation history and that continue to give us life and lead us to God. Let us continue the journey. Pray for me as I pray for you. There is a need for voices in all sections especially alto voices. The Adult Choir sings at the 10:00 Mass 2-3 time a month and at other liturgical celebrations through the year including Confirmation, Christmas Midnight Mass and Holy Week. Reading music is not necessary but a desire to serve through music is welcome! Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:10-8:30. Periodically there will be a rehearsal on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass in lieu of the Thursday rehearsal. A regular commitment to attending rehearsals and the Sundays the choir sings is needed. Youth Choir rehearsals will begin on September 24. The Youth Choir sings at the 10:00 Mass about once a month and at the 4:00 Family Christmas Mass, Easter Sunday and First Communion. Rehearsals will be on Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:00. Children ages 8 to 12 are welcome to join the Youth Choir. Children serving in this ministry sing at mass once a month and learn various aspects of proper singing in a group all the while praising God's name. A regular commitment to attending rehearsals and the Sundays the choir sings is needed. Consider giving your time and talent to the music ministry of Saint Francis Xavier by volunteering as a cantor and prayerfully leading the assembly in song during worship. If you play a musical instrument proficiently, you are invited to share your gifts periodically in the music during Mass. 3 Love and Laughter The Inter-parish Marriage Enrichment Team (IMET) will present its 8 th annual marriage enrichment conference on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 9:00am 3pm at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Naperville. Ted Cunningham, our engaging speaker, will give couples practical ways to enjoy their married life together, how to make the most of each day and how to better communicate. This light and entertaining event will be full of love and laughter. The ticket price is $25 per person. Tickets will be sold in the Narthex after all Masses on Oct. 3/4. Come on out to SFX and enjoy a family friendly movie! The Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a free FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT on Saturday, September 12th. We ll be presenting Big Hero 6 at 7:00pm in the lower level. Concessions will be available. Bring your blankets/pillows and few friends and enjoy the show! See ya there! Proud to be Catholic? You probably know of the many contributions the Church made to art and music throughout the ages. But, did you also know that the Church gave birth to the scientific method and the first university, and she made incredible strides in the area of medicine, architecture, language, and law? In the area of law, trial by jury and proof beyond a reasonable doubt are all the fruit of Catholic thought. And that s just the tip of the iceberg! This year the Family Centered Faith Formation program will explore the history of the Catholic Church. We ll learn about the saints as well as the sinners in the Church s history and how, despite some things we re not so proud of, there s a whole lot more to the Catholic Church than what we hear about in the media. Even if you don t have children in the FCFF program, please feel free to join us at 11 am on designated FCFF Sundays to hear the presentations that will be given by our new deacon, Vic Puscas. The same presentation will be given twice each month to accommodate our congregation. Our first sessions will be September 13 and 20. You are welcome to come to either session. As a visual expression that we are all part of the continuing story of the Catholic Church, each family is invited to illustrate a 2 x 2 ceramic tile that will become part of a large cross which will be hung in the lower level of the Church. The tiles will be available for you to take from the narthex on September 13. You ll need to return your tile by the end of October. The ID Drive, better known as the Tootsie Roll Drive, benefit the developmentally disabled. All money that our council collects goes to the following: Easter Seals of Joliet, Cornerstone and Plainfield District 202 Special Education. The SFX Knights will be collecting on the corners of Drauden and Caton Farm Rd, County Line and Caton Farm Road, Ridge and Caton Farm Road and on Friday in front of the Jewel at Caton Farm Road and Route 59. We will also be collecting after all the masses here on that weekend. With the State of Illinois still not passing a budget, many organizations that help the disabled are running out of funds. Your support will help them during these tough financial times. If you would like to volunteer to help man a corner, please contact Frank Palazzolo at palazf@sbcglobal.net The Knights of Columbus in conjunction with Heartland Blood Services will be hosting a Parish Blood Drive September 27th from 9 am until 1 pm. Heartland will be bringing their motor coach and be set up in the parking lot. Please visit the Knights table in the Narthex and reserve your appointment times. The need for blood in the area is great. So before or after church would you consider giving the "Gift of Life" K of C Vocation Raffle Can you use an extra $10,000? Well, here's your chance. The St. Francis Xavier Knights of Columbus are selling Vocation Raffle tickets with a grand prize of $10,000. Proceeds from the raffle benefit our future priests as they continue their formation. Plus a portion of each book sold comes back to our Knights of Columbus council. Those proceeds will be used to help with the purchase of the Youcat books that are used by our Family Centered Faith Formation here at the parish. Tickets are $1 a piece and will be available at the Knights table located in the Narthex after all the masses.

Manna News We have a variety of manna cards available for purchase after each weekend Mass. It just takes a few moments to stop by the manna desk. Our friendly volunteers will be happy to help you with your purchase. We have gas cards for use at BP, Shell and Speedway. We all buy gas, so why not use a manna card. This is a very easy way to provide our parish with extra money. We accept cash or checks payable to St. Francis Xavier. Thank you for supporting this program. A minimum of six(6) months in advance of your wedding date is a requirement of the Joliet diocese. Weddings are celebrated at Noon or 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Quinceanara Must contact the parish 3 months prior to the requested date RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For adults interested in becoming Catholic, RCIA prepares them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. Adult Catholics in need of Confirmation are also invited. The formal program meets weekly from October through May.
