Bags of Hope Bags of Hope fills backpacks with food every week, delivering them to roughly 190 kids right here in Plainfield School District 202 whose families are struggling to make ends meet at home. St. Francis Xavier is collecting food on 6/2 and 6/3 Canned vegetables, canned fruits, macaroni and cheese, pasta, rice, instant oatmeal, cereals, cereal bars, canned soups, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, hot cocoa, canned pasta sauce, tomatoes, canned pastas (ie: Spaghetti O s), canned chili, beans, canned pasta sauce, canned tuna, canned chicken, and individual snacks such as granola bars, fruit chews, snacks, pudding, applesauce, cookies, crackers, chips, raisins, and cheese and crackers. Together we can end hunger in our own community. 2 A Message from Our Pastor Dear Brothers and Sisters, We celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus reminds us that unless we eat his flesh and drink his blood we cannot have life. The life that Jesus give us challenges to go and share his love with others. Every month through Bags of Hope and DayBreak we reach out to give others a better life. Today in the mission appeal we are asked to reach out beyond our diocese to Tanzania in East Africa where Sister Candida comes from. We are asked to help Sister Candida s congregation in their ministry to the less fortunate and to continue to help them proclaim the good news. Anniversary Mass The Diocese of Joliet will hold its Fortieth Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass On August 26, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Cathedral of St Raymond in Joliet. If you are celebrating either your 25th or 50th anniversary this year, please contact the parish office so that we may submit your name to the Diocese for a formal invitation. Those celebrating over 50 year anniversaries do not receive a formal invitation, but will be able to register to attend at a later date MISSION APPEAL Sr. Candida Massabo from Tanzania is coming to our parish to do a mission appeal talk on the weekend of June 2 3 for the needs of her Congregation which carried various ministries to the margins in northwestern Tanzania. Sr. Candida is a professed nun from the Sisters Congregation of St. Maria Goretti in Tanzania and she is currently going to St. Francis University studying nursing and lives with the Franciscan Sisters of Sacred Heart at St. Joseph Presence Medical Center in Joliet. She comes to us as a the guest of the Mission Office of our Diocese which annually invites various religious congregations and dioceses from all over the world to share with us the works in the missions and invites us to support them as part of our baptismal call to evangelize the Gospel of Christ to the ends of the world. The sisters of St. Maria Goretti have the mission to evangelization through education, rescuing young women, young girls and young boys who live in physical and sexual abuses of their society. They minister to street children who are homeless and have no one to care for them. The motto of the Congregation of St. Maria Goretti is Happy the pure in heart for they shall see God, purity of heart, Die Yes sin no. We welcome Sr. Candida in our parish, let s open our physical and spiritual ears to listen to her message as well as be generous to the mission needs of her Congregation

Somewhere in the world, a lost soul is dialing our toll-free number hoping to find help. Will you answer that call? If God is calling you to help others, consider becoming a phone counselor for the The Upper Room Crisis Hotline. We are a Catholic hotline providing counseling and referral assistance to anyone struggling to find his or her way back to God or a more rational life. We help everyone regardless of their faith or background. To be a phone counselor, you don t need experience in mental health or phone work, although that background is helpful. What you will need is a love of people and a strong desire to help the lonely, frightened, and confused. We provide all the training. We invite you to let us know your plans for college so we can be sure that you will be remembered in prayer by St. Francis Xavier parishioners. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:(Family Centered Faith Formation) Registration takes place from May through August. Classes begin in September and are held twice a month on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. Baptisms: Are celebrated on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. Call the church office for open dates. Marriages: Please contact the parish office at the beginning of your wedding planning to check if your wedding date is available and to start the marriage preparation process. A minimum of six(6) months in advance of your wedding date is a requirement of the Joliet diocese. Weddings are celebrated at Noon or 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Quinceanara Must contact the parish 3 months prior to the requested date RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For adults interested in becoming Catholic, RCIA prepares them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. Adult Catholics in need of Confirmation are also invited. The formal program meets weekly from October through May.
