Bags of Hope Bags of Hope fills backpacks with food every week, delivering them to roughly 190 kids right here in Plainfield School District 202 whose families are struggling to make ends meet at home. St. Francis Xavier is collecting food on 11//3 & 11//4 cheese, pasta, rice, instant oatmeal, cereals, cereal bars, canned soups, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, hot cocoa, canned pasta sauce, tomatoes, canned pastas (ie: Spaghetti O s), canned chili, beans, canned pasta sauce, canned tuna, canned chicken, and individual snacks such as granola bars, fruit chews, snacks, pudding, applesauce, cookies, crackers, chips, raisins, and cheese and crackers. Together we can end hunger in our own community. 2 A Message from Vic, Dear Brothers and Sisters, We all have a hunger for God and goodness and Jesus teaches us that in order to attain friendship with God, we mustbe disciplined and must give up the things that keep us from satisfying the desire for God. Jesus rejects the false security ofwealth for the true security of trusting God, who offers salvation as a gift.. We cannot earn our own salvation, we can onlycooperate with God s gift of grace, because in the end, we rejust passing through here anyway on our way to eternal life andall the stuff in the world is not going to change that. There is a story about a Polish Rabbi named Hafez Hayyim. In the 19th century, a tourist from the United States visitedthe famous Rabbi. He was astonished to see that the Rabbi shome was only a simple room filled with books. The only furniture in the rooms was a table and a bench. Rabbi, where isyour furniture? asked the tourist. Where is yours? Replied the Rabbi? Mine? But I am only a visitor here. So am I, said the Rabbi, So am I. Adults are invited and welcome to sing with the Adult Choir! Choir members give of their time to serve in this ministry and assist in leading the congregation in song. Weekly rehearsals begin Thursday, September 6, from 7:00-8:30. The Youth Choir is in need of young voices ages 8 through high school to join and serve in this ministry. Children/teens learn various aspects of choral singing by praising God through song. Rehearsals begin September 13 at 6:15. Consider giving your time and talent to the music ministry of Saint Francis Xavier by volunteering as a cantor and prayerfully leading the assembly in song during worship. If you play a musical instrument proficiently, you are invited to share your gifts periodically in the music during Mass. We encourage you to register through the simple process of picking up the form in the back of church or by telephoning the office and complete the simple questionnaire. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:(Family Centered Faith Formation) Registration takes place from May through August. Classes begin in September and are held twice a month on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. PARISH MINISTRIES: If you would like to join one of our parish ministries (lector, Communion minister, catechists, etc.) please call the office for details. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT is held on Tuesday from 5-8p.m. and on Thursday after the 9:15 am Mass until 10:45a.m. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATIONS: We are delighted to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism & Marriage within our parish for registered families. If you have any questions, please contact our parish office, SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION: Reconciliation: Confessions are every Saturday from 3:30 to 4:15 pm, Wednesday from 5:45 to 6:15 pm and by appt.. Baptisms: Are celebrated on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. Call the church office for open dates. Marriages: Please contact the parish office at the beginning of your wedding planning to check if your wedding date is available and to start the marriage preparation process. A minimum of six(6) months in advance of your wedding date is a requirement of the Joliet diocese. Weddings are celebrated at Noon or 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Quinceanara Must contact the parish 3 months prior to the requested date RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For adults interested in becoming Catholic, RCIA prepares them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. Adult Catholics in need of Confirmation are also invited. The formal program meets weekly from October through May.
