It s a pink candle, reminding us that the birth of the Savior is near. St Paul tells us to rejoice. As a Christian joy and rejoicing should be part of our everyday existence. We are called to live as people of the light. Advent gives us the opportunity to take a look at our lives and straighten out anything that needs to be corrected, but it also calls us to rejoice in the fact that Jesus came to save and redeem us. So as we light the pink candle we rejoice that God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son so that we might have life to the full. 2 On Dec. 17 with the Christmas Season upon us, come celebrate this joyous season at the 6th annual Breakfast with St. Nick. Give yourself a break from all the Christmas activities and let us cook for you. The Pancake breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue until noon. Proceed will benefit the LaSalle Veterans Home. To help bring a smile to our veterans this holiday season. Also, if you are able to donate blood on this day you re donation would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you. The Legion of Mary The Legion of Mary will be saying the rosary the first Saturday of every Dec 23-Mass at 4:30pm Dec 24 Mass at 9:00am Dec 24-Christmas Eve Mass 3pm,5pm &10pm Dec 25 Christmas Day Mass 10am Kendall County PADS (shelters that house the homeless) As a parish we will be collecting ADULT MEN S and WOMEN s mittens, gloves, hats, socks and coats as well as toiletries and cash to donate to Kendall County PADS Please have your donations in by December 18, Money donations accepted up to Christmas Day Blanket Ministry These blankets are either sewn, quilted, knitted, crocheted or fleece-tied by volunteers who pray while making the blanket. Once completed, a card is attached to the blanket and then blessed by Fr. Karl. The blessed blankets are presented to the recipient(s), letting them know that they remain in our thoughts and prayers even if they cannot be with us at Mass. We are now seeking volunteers to use their time, talent and material to help replenish our supply of blankets. Some material has recently been donated to the ministry for those who can sew or quilt. For those who knit or crochet, there are patterns available for prayer shawls. K of C Ladies Auxiliary All women of our parish are invited to our next meeting January 7:30pm in the lower level of the church Daybreak Center (homeless shelter in Joliet ) is currently in desperate need of: White twin-size bed sheets White twin-size blankets White bath towels and washcloths Items may be dropped off anytime at Daybreak Center: 611 E Cass St, Joliet, IL James & Julie Ann Tidaback and Samuel & Joseph Brian & Amelia Kehl and daughters Belladonna & Josephine and son Kaleb We re happy you have decided to take this journey with us! Volunteers are needed to bring food as well as to collect, transport and serve the food. Our menu consists of Lasagna and/or Mostaccioli, salad, bread, dessert, juice and milk. 4 Elizabeth Ministry This outreach encompasses pregnancy, pregnancy complications, birth, infant or child crisis, fertility and infertility concerns, miscarriage, infant or child death, family life and grand-parenting issues. In the past, family members, neighbors and friends met these needs. Today, our busy lifestyles and constant relocation to new towns, the presence of family or friends may not always be possible during these critical times. Elizabeth Ministry responds to this need by offering like-to-like ministry through personal visits. We encourage you to register through the simple process of picking up the form in the back of church or by telephoning the office and complete the simple questionnaire. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:(Family Centered Faith Formation) Registration takes place from May through August. Classes begin in September and are held twice a month on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. PARISH MINISTRIES: If you would like to join one of our parish ministries (lector, Communion minister, catechists, etc.) please call the office for details. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT is held on Tuesday from 5-8p.m. and on Thursday after the 9:15 am Mass until 10:45a.m. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATIONS: We are delighted to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism & Marriage within our parish for registered families. If you have any questions, please contact our parish office, SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION: Reconciliation: Confessions are every Saturday from 3:30 to 4:15 pm, Wednesday from 5:45 to 6:15 pm and by appt.. Baptisms: Are celebrated on Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass. Call the church office for open dates. Marriages: Please contact the parish office at the beginning of your wedding planning to check if your wedding date is available and to start the marriage preparation process. A minimum of six(6) months in advance of your wedding date is a requirement of the Joliet diocese. Weddings are celebrated at Noon or 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Quinceanara Must contact the parish 3 months prior to the requested date RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For adults interested in becoming Catholic, RCIA prepares them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. Adult Catholics in need of Confirmation are also invited. The formal program meets weekly from October through May.
