At the writing of the these comments, members had reported some 6,500 hours volunteer hours to the Deputy Grand Knight. This was a great amount of time, effort and treasure. As your Grand Knight I thank you all! Our next major effort for this year is the Lenten fish fries that our Council is doing in conjunction with Assembly If you can cook or wish to learn, or you are able to, please volunteer at one of the Friday nights in lent. The dates are as follows: February 20, February 27, March 6, March 13, March 29 and March 27. The Lenten fish fries in February and March will require a tremendous effort on our part this year, as we will also be conducting Council Parish Monthly Breakfasts these months. That means by the end of the breakfast in April the Council will have needed a tremendous number of volunteers from our membership. We are asking that if every member of our Council does a few hours during this time frame, we will have all the help we need. The fish fries and breakfasts are a major part of our source of funds for our charity giving. Last year our Council members were tremendously generous with their time and efforts to make this a success. Thank you in advance for your time and effort. The Deputy Grand Knight and the three trustees are the election committee that is putting together slate of officer candidates for the fraternal year. If you are interested in becoming an officer, please contact one of the committee members (Steve Gentz - rdrulesmom@gmail.com, Ed Gniadek - kgniadek@aol.com, Rick Hycoop - rick.hycoop@gmail.com, Michael Parker - michaelparker178@yahoo.com) or any of the current Council officers. Many of our members do a lot of great things. So if you know of a Council member who deserves recognition or a Knight s family please let one of our Council officers know. That includes anyone who reads this newsletter and thinks a Knight or a Knights family should be recognized for efforts or generous acts that improves our Parish or community. 3 P a ge 3 MEMBER RECOGNITION & NEWS of INTEREST January Knight of the Month Knight of the Month for January 2015, is Brother Steve Nelson. Brother Nelson has served several years as a Council Officer, and he is currently serving as the Worthy Recorder. He has continued the tradition of recording in detail the progress of the monthly meeting, and has create a high level method of reviewing the minutes at the meeting to expedite the reading to the membership. Brother Nelson has been very active in our monthly breakfast fund January Family of the Month The Knight Family of the Month is the Merv Eberhardt family. The Brother Eberhardt family has been very active in the Council and with Assembly He and his family support the periodic K of C activities and events. The family has been very supportive in conducting the annual Soccer Challenge and the raisings and has volunteered at numerous K of C activities and events during the year. Brother Nelson exemplifies the three tenets of the Knights of Columbus. annual Free Throw Contest. The Brother Eberhardt family was particularly supportive of the 2014 Annual Tootsie Roll Campaign for the intellectually disabled. His family sets an example of what the best values of a Knight of Columbus family should be. The Knights of Columbus Council presented a check from the 2014 Tootsie Roll Campaign to the Arc of Madison County at their January Board meeting in the amount of $2, Present from the Council were Ben Cumbie, Rodolfo Chavez, Benny Concepcion and Grand Knight Mike Rose. Following the check presentation the Knights of Columbus received thank you ribbons from the Arc of Madison County and Ribbons Unlimited. Susan Klingel the Arc Executive Director said they cannot truly thank the Council enough, not only for the financial support but also for the Council's advocacy. Last November members of Ribbons Unlimited received polo shirts with their names embroidered on them along with the Knights of Columbus Logo. The shirts were presents to the employees by Council for their excellent customer service in the making of ribbons for the Council and the Community. Ms. Belinda Sandovol-Cabanillas of Valley Trophies, allowed Council members to purchase the shirts at cost and she donated the embroidering and her time.

5 P a ge 5 PROGRAM ACTIVITIES & NEWS of INTEREST Monthly Parish Breakfast The following is a summary of our 2015 breakfast activity beginning this January: Yearly Profit to Date $ 310 Number Meals Served 135 Avg. Profit per Breakfast $310 Avg. Meals Served per Month 135 KC Breakfast Workers Council Meeting Can Drive for the Good Shepherd Pantry Don t forget those canned goods. Last year the Supreme Council gave a donation of $100 for each 500 pounds of food collected. However, this Year Supreme requires 1,000 lbs. for the $100 donation. For the remaining 5 meetings this year our New Goal will be no less than 800 pounds of food or equivalent dollar donation, an average of 160 lbs per meeting. If each member brings 4 lbs. or $4 to each remaining meeting we can meet our new goal and our council can again receive the $200 donation from Supreme. Volunteer Hours The Council Volunteer Hours during a calendar year are reported to Supreme after the end of the year in January. To make it easier and make sure we get all of our volunteer work reported, please report your volunteer hours at the end of each month to our Deputy Grand Knight Steve Gentz. The following is a summary of our can donations for this new fraternal year starting in July through our Jan meeting: Number / Pounds of Can Goods 298/273 Dollars Donated Equated to Pounds $935 = 935 TOTAL POUNDS To date 1208 In addition reporting the regular volunteer hours for activities involving the community, church, council and youth, please identify if you have donated blood and number of visits to the sick and bereaved. This additional information is needed in our annual reporting on fraternal activities. 6 P a ge 6 PROGRAM ACTIVITIES & NEWS of INTEREST The Council Breakfast Team served a special First Reconciliation Breakfast for the Good Shepherd parish children, their families, and the staff on January 24. Serving started at 10:00 a.m. for about 80 attendees. Served were eggs, bacon, pancakes with and without chocolate, grits, fruit cocktail, biscuits, coffee, hot tea, orange juice and milk.

7 P a ge 7 PROGRAM ACTIVITIES & NEWS of INTEREST Assembly 0004 hosted a Knights Night Out at Holy Spirit Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. on January 24. It was free to all members of Councils 764, 4080, and 11672, and their families. The Assembly put on the event to thank the Knights in Huntsville area for all the good things they have done this past year.

8 P a ge 8 Four-year-old Diego is playing in the local community wading pool. His mother, Darlene, is sitting in the sun beside the pool. She is reading a book. At least, she is trying to read a book. "Hey Mom! I am swimming!" "Yes honey, you are swimming." "Mom, are you watching me?" "Yes, honey. Of course I am watching you!" Diego is trying to splash water onto her book. She is trying to ignore this. SHORT STORY CORNER "Mom! I am holding my breath under water." The book is getting really exciting. The police are solving a crime. Diego s mother is trying to concentrate. "Mom! You are not even watching me!" "Yes, Diego! I am watching you and I am reading a book. I am doing both things at the same time." "Mom, are you paying attention? I am doing a handstand." In the book, the police officer is chasing a suspect. Diego s mother is hardly Submitted by the Grand Knight PAYING ATTENTION breathing. Diego is being quiet for once. Too quiet. Suddenly, Diego s mother is looking around for Diego. She cannot find him. Suddenly, time is standing still. Suddenly, she isn t breathing at all. "Diego! Diego! Are you hiding from me? Diego! You are not being funny!" She is trying not to panic. She is walking around the pool, looking in the water. "Boo!" Out of nowhere, Diego is standing right behind her. "Diego! What are you doing?" Suddenly she is crying and hugging him tightly. "I am making sure you are paying attention, Mom!" "Well, now I am totally paying attention to you!" The moral here is that if you take a small child to a pool or any event or activities that will be a specific interest to the child, leave the book, or electronic device turned off and not only pay attention to the child, but interact with her or him and go and get wet with the child. In Honor of the Holy Family By Tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates the month of February to the Holy Family, the perfect example of family life for all Christians. Christ could have come to earth in any number of ways, yet God chose to send His Son as a child born into a family. In so doing, He set the Holy Family as an example for us all, and made the Christian family more than a natural institution. In our prayers to the Holy Family, we meditate on the example of the Holy Family and ask the Holy Family to intercede on behalf of our families. In this prayer, we ask God to keep the example of the Holy Family always before us, so that we will imitate them in our family life. The Holy Family O God, Heavenly Father, it was part of Thine eternal decree that Thine only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, should form a holy family with Mary, His blessed mother, and His foster father, Saint Joseph. In Nazareth, home life was sanctified, and a perfect example was given to every Christian family. Grant we beseech Thee, that we may fully comprehend and faithfully imitate the virtues of the Holy Family so that we may be united with them one day in their heavenly glory.
