Christmas is the season of giving. God gave us the best gift ever in Jesus Christ. What a wonderful gift! As Knights of Columbus whose principles are Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism, we have a tremendous opportunity to share the meaning of Christmas. First of all, it has to start from within. Are we ready to receive Jesus? Then, we look out for our family, our parish and our community. We have so many programs in the Knights of Columbus. Each program can be a gift either spiritually or materially. Let us look at our very own council. Are we engaging our Brother Knights? Are we reaching out to them? Can each of us pick a name or two from our council roster and make a personal phone call and/or send a Christmas card? The Brother Knight who receives that unexpected phone call or Christmas card will be pleasantly surprised. In looking outside of our councils, we see a lot of need out there. I ask each one to be more generous during this season of giving. Can we bring a few canned goods to our parish or community food pantry? How about giving coats specially to children? Can your council donate wheelchairs to our Christian brothers and sisters in the Holy Land and Middle East? State Officers State Deputy Sonny R. Santa Ines State Chaplain Bishop Oscar A. Huestis Your State Council is doing its share, too. In conjunction with our membership campaign for December called A Knight Before Christmas, we will award $100 to the top recruiting council for each division for a total of $500. (Division 1 = 60 or less members; 2 = 61-90; 3 = ; 4 = and 5 = over 180 members). The winner will be determined based on the highest percentage of intake from December 1 to December 24. In the spirit of giving, we encourage the winners to donate their prizes to the council s favorite charity or to members of the council who are in need. Finally, the Supreme Council is also doing its share of giving. The Supreme Knight just announced that the per capita credit for councils achieving the Star Council award will continue. That means $4.50 credit for each billable member of your council. So, let s shoot for the star and make your council a Star Council in this fraternal year. Vivat Jesus! Sonny R.
