I hope you all are getting a chance to get out of the house and considering putting the sweaters and coats away for the season. As spring is coming along so our Habitat for Humanity house is coming along; delayed by weather but taking shape. Give volunteering on this project a second change, it is a great way to meet other likeminded people and help a family out. Recommend you take sunscreen; do as I say and not as I do/did! As we all know Bishop David Foley suffered his last and passed away in April; he will be greatly missed, especially here in Huntsville. We also received word that our Bother Kim Harris passed away on the 26 th of April. Kim was intellectually disabled so his daily survival required that his Sister Monica and Husband Glenn saw to his daily needs. We will ensure Kim and Bishop Foley are remembered and their life celebrated. Please join your fellow Knights at Kim s last mass sometime in the first week of May. May 12 th, First Stop will be looking for some volunteers to spruce up the facility. Digging, planting, raking and arranging are some of the verbs we will be actively engaged in. I want us all to consider the idea of planting a tree for Bishop Foley and Kim at the First Stop. Rudy will be our front man, families are absolutely invited to participate. Should only be a few hours. Consider the idea and let s make it happen. Mother s Day is quickly approaching, the Knights will provide breakfast and also all mothers eat for free so please invite a mother and show your love. Might be your mother, your Wife s mother or your girlfriend s mother or your neighbor who is a mother. Moms eat free on Mother s Day. We will set up a last change Mother s Day card table for those that might have forgot no worries. Additionally, Boston Butt sales will begin on the 13 th (Mother s Day). You can preorder your Boston Butt for yourself or procure one for the homeless meal we are supporting. All profits will go to the Youth to support their adventures. They will be assisting with sales and disbursement of the Butts on the 23 rd of June also. Election for Council Officers with be in June and we have tentatively set the 30th of June for the Installation of Officers (IO). The activities will include a potluck dinner in the hall immediately following 5:30 mass and Deacon Paul has again volunteered to host a simple wine tasting. ALL Council Knights are invited as well as their families, kids included. Those that want to be on the planning side please step forward. MASS INSTALLATION DINNER WINE/BEER. Who s in? Thank you all for your efforts, keep up the good work VOLUNTEER VOLUNTEER VOLUNTEER God Bless You All Vivat Jesus, Mike Weist Grand Knight, Council 11672

3 P age 3 MEMBER RECOGNITION Family of the Month March 2018 The Knights of Columbus Council April Family of the Month is the Jim Regan family. The Regan family Jim, Debby, Abby, and Alex can be seen around the church with youth activities as well as Debby singing in the 11 AM choir. The early part of each New Year brings the Regan Clan into the community forefront with their work with the Saint Patrick s Day Parade and the St Baldrick s Live Bald event supporting childhood cancer research. Jim is a 21 year member and a great supporter of the Irish, working with the Knights as well as the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, keeping his Catholic faith firmly out front. Abby was seen on local TV on 31 March 2018 having her hair cut to show her solidarity with the young children diagnosed with childhood cancer. The whole Regan family has supported the cancer research program for the past three years as leaders and volunteers helping earn over $70,000 for cancer research. The Apr 2018 Family of the Month is the ever active Regan Family. Go Irish! Knight of the Month March 2018 The Knights of Columbus Council April Knight of the Month is Steven Patrick. Steven has been a member only long enough to see his signature on his new membership card dry, but he has made considerable strides in getting his fellow Knights of Columbus out and working. As a Habitat of Humanity coordinator, Steven has kept the council aware of the weekly scheduled activities associated with his first Gang of Churches build. The weather was uncooperative toward the beginning of the build but the hammers of progress have continued to swing toward the completion of another house. Steven showed an early interest in this project and volunteered to do whatever was needed to ensure the Knights were involved. A newly minted 3 rd Degree Knight, Steven has also been a big contributor in the fish frys, breakfast and kitchen clean-up - showing just how little time in service is actually needed to give back to the church, council, and community. Steven is just what the doctor ordered and is a welcome addition to Council s team. Let us congratulate Steven for work well done and appreciated and thank him for being the Council s April Knight of the Month. Relief from Payment of Council Dues The officers and members of Council wish a Happy Birthday to the following members having their birthdays in May: David Best... May 08 Norman Reinagel... 4 P age 4 COUNCIL ACTIVITIES Supporting our Brother Knights Knights in Need should contact the Council Officers/ Trustees, Financial Secretary, Deputy Grand Knight or Grand Knight with financial issues which we are allowed by our By-Laws to support. This may be a onetime effort or a reoccurring issue the Council could work to resolve. Many of our Brother Knights do not have or read the newsletter so please pass this information along. Some of our Brother Knights have not been in the position to engage with the Council but we are looking to engage with them. If you are a Knight or know of a Brother Knight that may be interested in having a fellow Knight come visit or you need an effort completed on your behalf please contact us. We would like to establish a quarterly opportunity to come by and deliver a sandwich or such and sit and talk, but we need your input so please contact us if you are interested in a visit from the Knights. Knights that would like to participate in this wonderful opportunity please contact the Council. Building the Domestic Church - Chair Couple Council has selected a 'Building the Domestic Church - Chair Couple'. Their role will be to work with the Committee Chairmen to develop and implement programs that are more closely aligned with the goals and mission of Good Shepherd Church and Father Phil O'Kennedy, our Pastor and Council Chaplain. Their role is to help the entire parish family to better understand their Catholic faith and put that faith into practice every day. The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council will communicate directly with the Chair Couple to share current and relevant information on Building the Domestic Church initiatives, as well as suggestions for programs we at Good Shepherd could sponsor for our council and parish family. The Grand Knight of Council thanks Deputy Grand Knight (DGK) Thomas and Rosalie Geoffroy for taking on this challenge and keeping us all on track and on target. Thank you. Habitat for Humanity Council will be gathering to support the Gang of Churches as they build their next Habitat for Humanity home. Our POCs are Steven Patrick and Steffen Segewitze. Weather delays have reset the first real construction efforts at the site but do not fret, council will be scheduling a group effort or two where we can team up together and build a wall or hang a window. Look for the schedule and volunteer opportunities in the soon from the council POCs. SHORT STORY CORNER Submitted by Mike Rose The flag of the United States of America does not fly because the wind moves past it. The flag of the United States of America flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it. American military members don t fight because they hate what s in front of them. They fight because they love what s behind them. Author Unknown Save the Date 30 June Installation of Officers following the 5:30 Saturday Night Mass at Good Shepherd church. Afterward we will have a Pot Luck Dinner and wine tasting. All Knights and their family members are invited. Elections We are a month away from elections and will solidify our volunteers for elected officers and Committee Chairmen. Elected officers need to be 3 rd Degree Knights and Committee Chairmen need to be willing to serve one full year (Jul 2018 Jun 2019). They do not need to be 3 rd Degree Knights but the Youth Chairman must be 21 years of age and pass the appropriate background checks. Consider your availability and interest.
