2 Brother Knights, Grand Knight s Message My Brother Knights! A new fraternal year has begun and we are heading into it with gusto. Our summer hiatus is now behind us and it s time to get off the duff and make some things happen. Let me begin by thanking each and every one of you for your participation in the K of C, Council, Parish, and Diocesan programs of last year. Through your help, we achieved the status of Star Council once again. Congratulations on this achievement! Now on to the new year. We have very exciting times ahead for our Council. We are, as always, looking to help the Parish and our Pastor as well as the community at large in any way that we can. We began the new year with a wonderful turnout for the 1st/2nd Degree held here at St Joe s. 16 new members from councils throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond, including ours. What a way to start off the new year. Our first monthly breakfast will be here on Sept 11th. Please come out and help with this endeavor. Plenty of work needs to be done in prep Sat Sept 10), cooking, set-up, tear down, etc. Even if you just attend and buy breakfast, you are helping. This will be followed by our monthly meeting on Sept 13th in the Parish center at 7:30. I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Let s stuff the room!!! Then it s on to our Annual Golf Tournament on Sept 16th held this year at Shepherd Hills. If you don t golf, that s ok. Other help is needed and all volunteers get to partake in the dinner and raffles. See your for the sign up genius for this event. Follow that up with the Annual Angel ride and K of C Chicken BBQ on Sept 18th. Riding and fundraising for this event will help our school children with funding their Catholic educations. Purchasing a fabulous Chicken BBQ dinner for you and your family will help your Council to continue reaching out to the community. Please consider both of those options as well as helping with the prep, cooking, and clean-up on the day of the ride. All of this just in Sept. WOW!!!! Let s not forget the Pasta Buffet dinner on Oct 9th. Tickets are available for sale now and you will be hearing more via , pulpit announcements, and the bulletin. As Phil Rizzutto of the NY Yankees used to say HOLY COW! What a year this is going to be. Fraternally, Jim Hoffmann Grand Knight A Knight s Tale I found myself unemployed in October of 2015, in early 2016 I lost my apartment and with no family here in PA, I now found myself homeless and living in my car. I then received an asking my intensions of staying with the Knights and that is when our Lord God really showed me the power of prayer. Brother Knights rallied to help me in ways I never imagined. From prayers to financial support in my time of need, each aspect of help came at just the right time, God saw to that. I prayed, my brother Knights prayed and the miracles came in full force. Suddenly job interviews started to become available. I found a temporary home and I was part of the Knights again. I am not where I want to be within the Knights, simply because my work schedule is a second shift and I am working a second job to help climb out of my financial situation. All thanks to God and my brother Knights for all the prayers and support. I have emerged from a dark time in my life. YOUR ROLE Knights are first and foremost Catholic citizens who are members of their communities and constituents of their elected officials. As a citizen, your most effective petition to an elected official is as an individual voter. As a Knight, you must exemplify your patriotic duty through the practice of charity and unity. PAGE 3

6 Field Agents Message Ask Eligible Men to Join Today, I want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard-working members. And more members equals more charity. We know that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to get more men to join. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights have increased visibility speaking or presenting during and after Masses and at special events. We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order. During the rest of the year, we often forget to ask men to join and to bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. What if the only reason he hasn t joined is because no one has asked him yet? When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often a selling point to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family.
