I was lucky enough to participate in the Church Mission and listened to Father Ron recall his childhood, relive his early years and experience some really weird stuff. If they ever come looking I need to report now that when I was an altar boy I (not alone) ate some of the hosts that were in the pantry, not yet blessed. Yep, I was hungry I guess, and yes I grew up in a pretty good neighborhood. That being said, the Mission allowed me to sit and observe the sheer number of my fellow Knights whom were and are always in the audience, readers, singing in the choir, Eucharistic Ministers, ushers, collect the donations etc., etc., etc. You all should be proud of your service to the church and your faith community. Your contributions are what drive this church in service to others. In almost all of the ministries at Good Shepherd the Knights serve, some to the point of exhaustion and others with prayer and financial support, but we serve. To that I commend you and ask you to find your calling, rise to your given gifts and pick one more, one less attractive and less sexy and maybe even a little uncomfortable and give back. Our Council is in a transition when it comes to the Knights that volunteer on the Exemplification Teams. Those of you that have the ability to support this effort are most welcome to volunteer for something you might feel comfortable doing and we need done. Please give this conscious consideration. Over the next few weeks we are going to do a couple things we have not done before. 6/7 we will be passing out blessed Thumb Rosaries and rosary guides to our fellow parishioners. This required only 10 minutes of your time after mass, just meet us in the vestibule as soon as possible after mass to gather some guides and a basket with the thumb rosaries. 27/28 is our Intellectual Disabilities Campaign and we will only pass out tootsie rolls at the Church. Please join the Knights as we attempt to support the ID Campaign. Additionally, I will be out of town that weekend and really could use a few extra Knights to step up and support the Deputy Grand Knight and Financial Secretary. Again for 10 minutes after mass. Lastly, for now, we will be having two Tailgate Parties for comradery/fellowship and to collect dollars for the ID Campaign. They will be the 13 th of and the 3 rd of Nov. An entry fee of $10 per family is requested and you are responsible for the food you eat and drink you drink. Also we ask that you donate or contribute a small side dish / desert, others may share. We are providing the Grill and sauces! This will only be as much fun as you all make it! Thank you. Please take care of yourself and your loved ones. God Bless You All Vivat Jesus, Mike Weist Grand Knight, Council 11672

10 Page 10 FAMILY Family of the Month September 2018 The Knights of Columbus, September 2018 Family of the Month, is the Rudy and Bonnie Chavez family. Another great example of Knights in Action. Rudy and Bonnie, always on the go and always supporting someone in need, if that person is a Knight or not. A mainstay of supporting each and every event, Rudy was instrumental in the development and coordination for a wheelchair ramp at the home of a retired Monsignor and Knight of Columbus member from Louisiana. Organizing the procurement of the lumber, arranging for the volunteers, even designing the layout of the structure. Rudy is all in - in Christ s love and volunteer spirit. Sharing the load, Ms. Bonnie can be found traveling with Rudy, delivering goods and also teaching the children the finer skills of ramp board installation. A member of the choir, Bonnie contributes in many directions but always representing the Catholic Church with her volunteer spirit and Christian charity. Our good friends and September Family of the Month is the Chavez family. Knight of the Month September OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS The officers and members of Council wish a Happy Birthday to the following Terry Carlson Joseph Aiello Jim Pryor Jeff McFetridge Tim Sullivan Tracy Wagner Ben Cumbie Lamar Jackson Raul Alonzo Rolando Gentolizo Phil Dombrowski Mike Rose Chris Nascone Tom Dollman Carter Robinson Jacob Weist Terrance Nordmann Joe Noletto Roque Haines The Knights of Columbus, Council 11672, September 2018 Knight of the Month, Thomas Dollman. A Eucharistic Minister and Council Faith Director, Thomas is a man we look to for inspiration and leadership. Establishing new ideas like the Building the Domestic Church Program, Tom has lead by example, Prayers for Priests Rosary Cards and Thumb Rosaries for distribution, as well as other programs have taken shape and will provide a great source of inspiration to all the membership. Leading the charge is a man who reads and understands scripture and with his wife Becky can be seen leading the way with the Worldwide Marriage Encounter program. Our Knight of the Month Thomas Dollman for September Knights of Columbus Christmas Party Sunday 2 Dec, 2-5 PM, Family Life Center Save the date and join us all as we come together for our annual Christmas Party. Kids and relatives are definitely invited. Look for Santa to make a surprise visit and our raffle draw will also occur during the gathering.
