If not the busiest, we are surely close to it. The Christmas season takes a break and we all begin to focus on Lent and our personal challenges. Often we ask ourselves to give-up or stop doing something. How about instead of stopping, we start doing - something? Volunteer with an organization, serve a meal, help a citizen, extend a hand. It s not always about donating the dollar, it is often about extending kindness to another human being. Life may be easier than it was 50 years ago but it truly seems way more complicated. If you are good at something, make that gift available to others. We have Knights with skills in auto maintenance, computers, basic and advance home repair. If you need something or are willing to assist somebody let your voice be heard. A document was send out covering what is needed for members with 100% disability to get relief from annual dues. If you believe this applies to you, contact the Financial Secretary (Ben Cumbie) or the Grand Knight and we will discuss your options. On that same note, continue to send in your dues for If there is a financial reason why submission is difficult at this time, contact the Financial Secretary. I want to thank our Family of the Month (Sir Knight Steve Laws and Lee Laws) and Knight of the Month (Knight Ben Cumbie) for continuing to be rudders that steady the ship. Having so many members who are fine husbands, brothers, and sons really makes our organization a strong pillar to the church. I thank each and every one of you for all your efforts to right each of your own ships. Keep up the good work. Lastly, we have the Mardi Gras family pot luck on the 13 th at the Parish Hall. Take a moment with your families and stop into the Happiest Tuesday on the calendar - participate. Friday the 16 th begins our Fish Fry-days and Father Phil has asked that we empty the Parish Hall by 7 PM to allow for all the Fish Fry-day patrons to attend Stations of the Cross - participate. Dinner will begin at 4:45 and we will end serving at 6:30. The Fish Fry-days will run well into March volunteer. Trina and the Office Staff are looking for a few good Catholic Men to assist with the Rummage Sale and coordinating the collections - volunteer. Additionally, we can expect a 2 nd and 3 rd Degree exemplification in March as well as a 4 th Degree Exemplification in Madison County in April and the State Convention in Orange Beach, May 4-6. Check your calendars; volunteer and participate as needed where needed. Get out and join in, make a difference. So in closing, the winter may be on the downhill slide (Olympics pun) but please stay well, stay at home if you are not well and call or contact a Brother Knight or the Council Officers for assistance as needed GO USA! God Bless You All, Vivat Jesus, Mike Weist Grand Knight, Council 11672

7 P a ge 7 December 2017 Christmas Party
8 P a ge 8 SHORT STORY CORNER Submitted by Mike Rose PECANS IN THE CEMETERY On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. 'One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me,' said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, 'One for you, one for me, one for you, One for me...' He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. 'Come here quick,' said the boy, 'you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!' The man said, 'Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk.' When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, 'One for you, one for me. One for you, One for me.' The old man whispered, 'Boy, you've been telling' me the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord... Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last they heard, 'One for you, one for me. That's all.. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done. They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile before the kid on the bike passed him. PRAYER FOR PRIESTS PRAYER Jesus, Eternal Priest, protect all our priests, Your servants, from all dangers and keep them safe in your sacred heart. They are yours and their life is offered in sacrifice at Your altar. Keep them pure of heart and aflame with the love of God and neighbor. Strengthen Your priests by living constantly in them, with them, and through them, especially in times of loneliness and afflictions, and when their life of sacrifice seems meaningless. Bless all their labors with abundant fruit. May they persevere in their vocation until the end. Mary, our Blessed Mother, wrap them under your mantle and save them from all worldly distractions. May the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation in this world and in Heaven, their beautiful and everlasting crown. AMEN. Mary, Queen of Priests, pray for us. St. John Vianney, pray for all Priests. St. Stephen, pray for all Deacons.
