9 Back-to-school supplies are being collected for Silverdale Elementary School, by the Congregations for Children Committee (C4C) from now until August 22. Please drop off items in the white bins marked Silverdale which are in the Narthex and Church Office. There are many ways to help: PRAY for a smooth start and God's guidance and presence throughout the year. DONATE a few school supplies or other items that C4C is collecting, if you are able and willing to help. There are bins in each Narthex and by the church office. Lists are available on the bins, in this bulletin insert or on the church website under "Missions", then "Congregations for Children". *SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER! Swansboro United Methodist Men August 16, 2017 Fellowship This event will be a night baseball game at Grainger Stadium, 400 East Grainger Ave., Kinston NC ALL men of the Church are invited. We plan to depart the Church upper parking lot at 5:30 p.m. We have reserved tickets - $6.00 each, which can be paid (cash or check payable to SUMM) to our treasurer now or at the game. We can easily increase our advance ticket purchases as you all reply with your intentions to attend. Please notify Frank Cizerle ( or frank.cizerle@gmail.com) of your intention to attend and your desire to ride (or not) the church bus by August 9, 5 p.m. Overflow in personal vehicles can caravan/follow the bus to/from the game. Additional info below. :) SUMM The Down East Wood Ducks are a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League. They are located in Kinston, North Carolina. Established in 2017, the team plays its home games at Grainger Stadium, which opened in 1949 and holds 4,100 fans. Kinston has hosted a farm club for eleven different major league franchises and one minor league club in its baseball history. Professional baseball in Kinston dates back to a 1908 squad in the Eastern Carolina League. Architect John J. Rowland built the Grainger Grandstand original structure in 1949 at a cost of $170,000 inclusive of everything except the land. The stadium is owned by the city and leased by the team. Kinston Indians referred to it as "Historic Grainger Stadium" due to its age relative to other fields in the Carolina League. It is the second oldest stadium in the circuit. The name Grainger comes from its location on Grainger Avenue as well as its use early on by Grainger High School.
