This year, it is especially appropriate that we mark this day as the centennial observance of Armistice Day, the end of World War I when hostilities ceased on November 11 th at 11 a.m., Leader: Let us give thanks to God for the land of our birth with all its chartered liberties. For all the wonder of our country's story: Leader: For leaders in nation and state, and for those who in days past and in these present times have labored for the commonwealth: Leader: For those who in all times and places have been true and brave, and in the world s common ways have lived upright lives and ministered to their fellows: Leader: For those who served their country in its hour of need, and especially for those who gave even their lives in that service: Leader: Almighty and merciful God, as we remember these your servants, we come with gratitude for their courage and strength. Elliana is the daughter of Joseph and Julie Ortenzi. Please greet the family following worship this morning. Members of the household of God, I commend Elliana to your love and care. Do all in your power to increase her faith, confirm her hope and perfect her in love. All: With God s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround Elliana with a community of love and forgiveness, that she may grow in her trust of God, and be found faithful in service to others. We will pray for her, that she may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life. 6 ANNOUNCEMENTS Celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Church of the Saviour next Sunday, November 18. See insert for special announcements. Following the 9:30 worship service today, we will be assembling 100 flood bucket kits that will help individuals and families who are struggling to cope with recent devastating storms. The supplies for the kits are being purchased by the funds from our annual Easter Offering, but we need your help to put the kits together. Please join us in the Great Hall. Raking Leaves - If you are physically or financially unable to handle the fall clean up in your yard, or if you know of someone in need of assistance, the COTS Youth want to help. We will be raking leaves in the afternoon of Saturday November 17 at 1 pm, followed by a trip to Mama Santa's for dinner and returning by 6 pm. We invite others to join in this ministry. Contact the church office to sign up for yard help or to help. GOT 2 FISH and 5 LOAVES? Turkey will do also. Celebrate Thanksgiving this year with international students. Our great American holiday tradition that embodies our Christian values - being thankful to God and welcoming the alien and stranger and thus, welcoming Jesus Himself - becomes world missions. This includes socks, combs, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, pencils, small writing pads, shampoo. Most clients are men. Please bring donations to church by November 12. United Methodist Women hosts the program STREET PEOPLE presented by the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH) on Tuesday, November 13 at 10 a.m. in the Parlor. The goal is to expose the community to the real face of homelessness and to inspire people of different ages and backgrounds to serve and get involved. Devotions and lunch ($5 at the door) will follow the program. RSVP for lunch through the church office by Sunday, November 11. Please note that the following activities have been cancelled in November: Parent Connect and Family Connect and blood pressure screenings. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Angel Tree Project is an opportunity for COTS members to purchase gifts for children in need. Look for the Angel Tree Project on November 18 in Calvary Hall from 9:30-10:30 am and after the worship service in the Great Hall foyer to select a child s name. There will also be a table on November 25 in the Parlor. Drop off the gift by December 2 for it to be delivered to the child before Christmas. ADVENT FESTIVAL Saturday, December 1 from 9 am - 1 pm Fair Trade Vendors Children s Crafts Cookie Walk Christmas Music Mr. Sperl s Donut Machine The Advent Festival is an opportunity to gather with the church friends and others in the community to shop with a purpose. We may not be able to avoid gift giving altogether, but what if your gifts could support programs and organizations that serve those in need around the world and close to home? The cookie walk supports the Fairfield Children s Home in Zimbabwe. Please bring your holiday cookies to the Parlor kitchen on Friday, Nov. 30 or by 9 am on Saturday, December 1.
