On November 4, SUMC will be hosting a Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event. We plan to package over 40,000 meals on November 4 and are going to need a great turnout from our congregation to accomplish this. More details will be coming soon. WOEOM/The Hem- The White Oak Ecumenical Outreach Ministries (W.O.E.O.M.) is a local organization formed by 15 area churches, including Swansboro UMC. The mission of the group is to assist local families in emergency and other situations. The main sources of income are the HEM retail store located at 724 West Corbett Ave., Swansboro, NC and from individual donations. The family assistance department and the retail store are operated by volunteers from the 15 churches and local volunteers. During 2016 donations were made in the following amounts (information given by Clete Ketner, Board chairman): $230,000 to assist those in need with rent, electric and water bills $60,000 to area schools to help kids in need $44,000 to support meals on wheels program providing 10,686 meals to area individuals during the weekdays $6,700 to help families with medical expenses 1,200 families received food assistance Current needs are: Volunteers in the retail store and drivers for meals on wheels.
