If you have not yet joined the Twenty Dollar Fellowship, we encourage you to do so. ANNOUNCEMENTS All are invited to our monthly meditation workshop. On Tuesday July 31 from 6:00-7:30 pm in Bldg 1, Library, we ll look at Nobel Peace Prize winner, missionary Albert Schweitzer and how his music and mind shaped his contemplation. We ll include scripture in our shared evening meditation. Info: Jim Brewster (retired UM pastor who has taught meditation at UNCW) A Second Helping-Emerald Isle... Volunteers are needed to staff the food drop off site beside Bert s Surf Shop at the corner of Emerald & Islander Dr from 8-11am on either a Saturday or Sunday during the summer. Vacationers stop by our locations as they are leaving the island and drop off food. Volunteers will place the foods in containers or coolers. All you need is a chair and water. We provide a canopy, coolers and containers for food. To volunteer, call George Gardner, or Christine Winslow, or go to Our new Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) is underway! SAM's Kick Off Celebration is Wednesday, July 25, 11:30 am-1:30 pm in the Assembly Hall. Food, Fun, Fellowship, Games and Door prizes for all our Senior Adults! Activities are geared towards those of us 50+, but all are welcome. Reserve your seat now by contacting the church office, signing up at one of the Welcome Centers, or online at (also under LOOK HERE on website homepage.) Reservations are requested to help us plan, but not required. Blessings & Joys SUMC has really embraced our new Every Sunday food collection. With our success, we need more people to help. We are looking for a couple or a pair to assist, just one Sunday a month, with putting out and retrieving food carts and bin. Also, we ll need more people (once a month) to sort and distribute. Please prayerfully consider helping to make this ministry to the hungry faithful and effective. Just write your name, phone and/or and the word Manna on the connection card this morning. PRAISE THE LORD On Saturday, July 8, Second Helping received donations from departing vacationers of 13 coolers of non-perishables and 30 grocery bags of perishable foods. Thanks to SUMC/Manna for supporting A Second Helping-Emerald Isle! VBS had 140 children/youth and 70+ awesome volunteers!

8 THE HOLY LAND CHRISTIANS ARE OUR GUESTS HEAR THEIR STORY AND BUY THEIR BEAUTIFUL OLIVEWOOD CRAFTS Today, after all services, we will be hosting, in the Fellowship Hall, a nice display of handmade olivewood religious carvings from Bethlehem and Jerusalem available for purchase. There will be a sample of the carvings in the narthex. These carvings include olive wood nativity sets, crosses, Christmas ornaments, candle holders, angels and many other religious crafts that make nice wedding, baptism, Easter, and especially Christmas gifts. These carvings are handmade by Christian families in Bethlehem who rely on sales for their daily bread. For more than ten years Bethlehem Christians have been enduring many hardships as tourism in Bethlehem has plummeted and access to other sources of income has been sharply restricted due to the ongoing conflict. Many Christians left their homeland. The Christian population of the Holy Land went down from 30% in the last century to almost 1% today. Please help support our Christian brothers and sisters in Bethlehem by purchasing their carvings. George Ghanem, an indigenous Christian from Bethlehem will be standing by the carvings after all services. Let us keep Bethlehem a Christian town forever. Proceeds go to support Christian artisans from Bethlehem. It is never too late to help.
