1 5756 Zachary Taylor Highway Mineral, Virginia (540) (phone) (540) (fax) Volume 33, Issue 3 March 3, 2013 Pastor Lynn W. Beanum, Jr. reetings in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ, the captain of salvation, and s o o n - c o m i n g K i n g. There s no other name whereby we must be saved. We are now looking toward Easter, the day we now celebrate, or observe, with the Passover and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Resurrection is a return to life subsequent to death. Daniel 12:2 reads Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake; some to everlasting life, and some to shame, and everlasting contempt. So whether it s celebrated or not, biblically, the resurrection did occur, and it was/is an Easter miracle, which is the heart of the Christian faith. The New testament, if anything, is even more Pastor resurrection-oriented than it is Lynn cross-centered. Indeed, it is the W. resurrection which shapes the Beanum church s theology as well as its Jr. worship life. Our faith is resurrection faith. Jesus Christ, because of His great love, allowed Himself to be crucified and buried in the sepulchre, but on the third day, the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. And behold there was a great earthquake; for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and His raiment white as snow; and for fear of him, the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel said unto the women, Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come see the place where the Lord lay. To be resurrected with Christ, we must repent, and be baptized for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The promise is to us, our children, those afar off, and as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Without God s Spirit, we are none of His, and will not be incorruptible, nor immortal. So, beloved brethren/sisters, let s be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding, in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know, that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (Matt. 28:1-7, Acts 2:38-40, 1 Cor.15:51-58). Amen. Verse for the Month: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Thess. 4:17)

2 A Word from Our Editor Praise the Lord Everybody! (Sing with me) What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought. Since Jesus came into my heart; I have light in my soul for which long I have sought, Since Jesus came into my heart. Refrain: Since Jesus came into my heart, Since Jesus came into my heart; Floods of joy o er my soul like the sea billows roll, Since Jesus came into my heart. -Sister Marilyn Silver Since Jesus Came Into My Heart - (lyrics by Rufus H. McDaniel, 1914) A Word From Our Elders Keeping It Real We refuse to wear the masks and play games. We don t maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. And we don t twist God s Word to suit ourselves. Rather, we keep everything we do and say out in the open, the whole truth on display, so that those who want to can see and judge for themselves in the presence of God. (2 Corinthians 4:2 The Message Bible) I m possessed of a hope that is steadfast and sure, Since Jesus came into my heart; And no dark clouds of doubt now my pathway obscure, Since Jesus came into my heart. Refrain: Since Jesus came into my heart, Since Jesus came into my heart; Floods of joy o er my soul like the sea billows roll, Since Jesus came into my heart. The words of this song just keep ringing and ringing down in my soul. When Jesus came into my heart it was a defining moment in my life, and I have LIFE because of it. Perhaps you don t know the melody, but just think on the words. When Jesus comes into our hearts we are never the same again. He gives us a peace that the world can not disturb. If He is not living in you, try Him! God bless you, is my prayer. -Elder Jason Lewis The apostle Paul maintained his perspective and endured ministry because he refused to play games. He kept it open, authentic, transparent, and real. It is very easy to put on The Mask. When we get hurt or disappointed we put on a mask to hide our true inner feelings. Wearing The Mask will make you appear artificial and fake. In order to be affective in our witnessing and our ministering we must maintain our authenticity. Be the Man/Woman that God has called you to be as opposed to trying to be someone we are not. Let s Keep It Real, take off The Mask and maintain an eternal perspective. Love and Blessings. 3 Temple Men Speak NOT A FAN!? Is this a statement or is it a question? Truly, depends on the person who is reading. The bible is full of people who are fans of Christ. Also, if you think about it, everywhere you go today, people call themselves a Christian. The Bible says you will know them by their fruit (Matt. 7:16). A fan will be a Christian until something happens, or goes wrong; that is when the real fruit will show. Jesus dealt with this as well when he walked the earth. The religious leaders of that day knew everything about God, but did they know God walking in their midst (Matt. 15:8)? Jesus challenged them often and most Temple Women Speak TOD VIRTUOUS WOMEN OF YESTERDAY Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far beyond rubies (Proverbs 31:10). of them never got it, although there was one who came to Jesus by night (John 3). So are you a fan caught up in the traditions of men, or a follower of Christ, laying aside every weight and sin which doth so easily beset you (Hebrew 12:1). Or are you like the rich young ruler who came to Jesus as a fan, and wanted to know how to obtain When I read this scripture I often think of the mothers of the church that are no longer with us. In the little white church across the road we had pressing mothers like my great-grandmother, Mother Annie Mosby. She would walk to church, and carry a lantern to see her path at night. Once she arrived she would sing praises to God and always leave the testimony, you don t have time to stop and pick flowers by the wayside. Mother Annie Moody was another one who pressed her way through all types of adversities. She was blind and had only one leg but she made every service on time; whether it was here at her home church, or as far as New York, she was always there. She was our modern day Job. There were praying mothers like my grandmother, Mother Martha Coleman, who knelt down in prayer in her home every day. Another praying mother was Mother Poindexter. Whenever I visited her, we always had church. When she came to visit me, she would stop and pray blessings over the house after entering in. There were talented mothers like Mother Dorothy Adams who sat quietly in her pew until she was called upon to sing. She would stir the church up with songs like Give Me A Clean Heart, and Walking Up The King s Highway. Mother Grace Daniel had a talent for memorizing and composing poetry. One of my favorite was the Heavenly Grocery Store. She also remembered -Brother Lonnie McIver, Jr. eternal life, however was troubled when he was told to sell everything and give it to the poor and follow Jesus (Luke 18:18-27). Jesus is looking for followers, those who are committed, and won t run at the first sign of trouble. Are you seeking Christ because of what he can do for you, or do you really want a relationship? Jesus challenged even his disciples that followed him (Luke 14:25-27, Mark 8:34-38). He required that you love no one or nothing more than following Him. Jesus said it best in his prayer (Luke 22:42)...not my will, but thine be done. Are you a fan or a follower!? Not a fan. -Sister Janice Bullock everybody s birthdays. I still have the last poem she composed for me for on my birthday in We had teaching mothers like Mother Christine Smith. She and her husband would sit down with me and my husband and teach us the values of marriage. One piece of advice she gave us that stuck with me was, when you have an argument, never run home to momma. There were mothers who, when they decided to come to church, brought their household with them, like Mother Eva Morris. Can you imagine how full the church would be if we all did that? There were wise mothers like Mother Marian Douglas. She had an excellent business mind; she was also one that loved Sunday School, and encouraged you to attend and bring your children also. I wonder, what would be recorded in the minutes for the total number of scholars in Sunday School if we all did that? We had mothers that showed big faith like my mother Sister Thelma Coleman. She would often say, if you take Him to be a little God that is what He will be to you, but if you take Him to be a great big God, that is what He will be. I take him to be the great big God that He is. My mom taught me that. I thank God for having known these mothers; they tarried with me, encouraged me, prayed for me, and prayed with me. I will always cherish their memories. They are gone but will never be forgotten. Volume 33, Issue 3 March 3, 2013 Page 3

Lynetta Watkins 1st Sunday Youth Service ALL ARE WELCOME HOW TO ACCEPT CRITICISM II Samuel 12:1-13 (taken from the Kid's Life Application Bible) It's no fun hearing people criticize you. How many of these have you heard? "Your handwriting is sloppy." "Your desk is always messy." "You need to be more careful." But accepting criticism is a very important part of growing up. The prophet Nathan once had to criticize King David for a sin he had committed. Instead of criticizing him directly, Nathan used a story to tell David that he was guilty of Children s Bible Quiz: ( DLTK's Bible Activities for Children - 1. This prophet was swallowed by a fish. sin. It was very difficult for King David to hear this criticism, but the king listened and agreed with God and Nathan. He confessed his sin and got his relationship with God back on track. Here is what you can learn from David's experience. 1. BE OPEN. David was a great king, yet he allowed Nathan to talk, and he listened to God's message. Be ready to receive honest criticism from people who care about you. God may send some unusual messengers, but his goal is to make you the best person you can be. 2. LISTEN. Nathan said some very strong things to David. He accused him of a terrible sin! But since it was true, David swallowed his pride and listened. The next time a friend tells you about something you did wrong, swallow hard and listen to what your friend has to say. 3. DON'T RETALIATE. The prophet took a big chance speaking to the king. David could have laughed at him, told him he was wrong, or even punished him. But instead of striking back, he accepted what Nathan said and admitted he needed to change. When you hear criticism, it may be tempting to criticize in return because your feelings have been hurt. Instead, try to thank your friend for his or her honesty. 15. What animal was often used for transportation in the Bible? 16. Who was the Son of God? 17. What was the name of Jesus' mother? 18. 9 Caregivers of Strength As a caregiver it is very important that you eat right, exercise when you can, and in general do all you can to maintain your good health. Dear caregiver, you can not be of comfort and help to your loved one for whom you are caring; if you do not do all your can to stay healthy yourself. Even more important than your physical health is your emotional and spiritual health. Family care-giving can be emotionally and spiritually draining. That is why it is so important that you maintain your spiritual health through daily prayer and reading the Word of God. If this means you have to get up in the morning before your loved one, that is what you need to do. It is essential to your well-being and strength. Also throughout the day constantly be aware of and tune into the presence of God right beside you. -Excerpts of Article from Christiancareging.blogspot.com (posted by Sharon) Caregivers of strength know that they are fallible human beings. They know they become impatient at times. They often feel like they are walking in the dark. They often feel as if their whole world could fall apart at any moment. They also know, however, that the Lord will catch them and their loved ones when they fall. Caregivers have no confidence in their own strength, but they avail themselves of the Lord's grace and strength. Caregivers of strength do not continually look for their own advantage. They often sacrifice their own best interests for the best interests of the loved one for whom they are caring. They also know that they do not have enough strength in themselves for the care-giving journey they are on. They further know with certainty, however, that through the care-giving journey they will become strong by God's grace. Dear Christian caregiver, this is most likely the most difficult journey you have ever been on. Trust in the Lord's strength. Rest in Him, and you will be a caregiver of strength!
