1 5756 Zachary Taylor Highway Mineral, Virginia (540) (phone) (540) (fax) Volume 34, Issue 2 February 2, 2014 Author Unknown Submitted by: Pastor Beanum Pastor Lynn W. Beanum, Jr. A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat." "Is the man of the house home?", they asked. "No", she replied. "He's out." "Then we cannot come in", they replied. In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. "Go tell them I am home and invite them in!" The woman went out and invited the men in "We do not go into a House together," they replied. "Why is that?" she asked. One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home." The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!" His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?" Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!" "Let us heed our daughter-inlaw's advice," said the husband to his wife. "Go out and invite Love to be our guest." The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest." Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?" The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!" Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing." ---John 15:4-5 Verse for the Month: This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:12-13
2 A Word from Our Editor The Love of God -Sister Marilyn Silver For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). As a young girl, I remember my father singing the words to a song that says, The Love of God guides me along my way. The love of God never lets me stray. The love of God is always right there. The l o v e o f G o d i s everywhere. There is something about the love of God that will enable us to weather the storms of life, something about His love that shields our heart from fear and removes all doubt. The love of God is powerful enough to lift us out of sin. We are living in a changing world that accepts right for wrong and wrong for right. Nevertheless, Beloved we are yet holding on to the unchanging hand of Jesus Christ and He is holding us. It appears that the earth is being shaken from coast to coast; the north, east, south, and west. Everything that is not rooted and grounded in Christ Jesus is surfacing right before our very eyes. Sin is running rampant in the land. But in the word of God we find these words, that where sin abounded; grace did much more abound (Romans 5:20). The love of God engulfs us, it covers us and it A Word From Our Elders sure enough preserves us. Over the years the question has been asked, What does love have to do with it? The answer resounds loud and clear Everything!!! If it was not for the love of God where would we be? We would have perished a long time ago, been destroyed and forgotten...but GOD!! How can we neglect His love? How can we say we don t need Him? How can we see His grace and mercy and turn and look the other way? How can we resist His love or His call to come unto Him; all that labor and are heavy laden? Now is the time to love and obey Him. We do not have to wait until February 14th (Day of Love), but the day we hear His voice let s run unto Him for He loves us. Harden not your hearts, but submit unto the will of God. His love will guide you along the way, His love will never let you stray. His love is everywhere; yes, even in your worst situation God s love is there. Allow His peace to hold you steady on your journey. God bless! Elder Jason Lewis Page 2 No Greater Love On February 14, we will be celebrating Valentine s Day. Men and women will be expressing their love for one another in many ways. Some will buy cards, flowers, chocolate candies, and have romantic candlelight dinners just to show their love and appreciation for each other. Those things are great, but the greatest expression of LOVE is found in John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Sometimes we love a person because they love us back or based on conditions. But God has that UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Romans 5: 6-8 says But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. God loved and cared for me so much that He died for me in spite of me, now that s love. A lot of people will be told that they are loved this month. Remember this, GREATER LOVE hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13). Temple of Deliverance, HCG, Inc. Newsletter
3 Temple Men Speak Keeping Jesus Center -Deacon Bobby Carter Praise the Lord Saints! We thank God for letting us see a New Year. Had it not been for the Lord who was on our side we would not have made it. Let us keep Jesus in the Center of our lives that we may have a blessed year. God has been good to me. I have been working straight for the last six years. I know it s God s doing. He wakes me up when the alarm does not sound. Proverbs 3:6 says, In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Let us keep Jesus in the Center of our lives and He will make our paths smooth and straight. Continue to pray one for another. God bless you All. Temple Women Speak Endurance Greetings in the name of Jesus. Endurance -the ability to withstand hardship, adversity or stress, suffering, and trials (James 1:12). Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised them that love him. We are now entering the second month of 2014 and no doubt some of you are already being faced with challenges that have come to discourage you. 1 Peter 4:12-13 tells us Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you/(us). But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ s sufferings; that when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. In Peter s teaching he encourages us to add patience to temperance. While temperance helps us with our internal - Mother Joyce Rock battles, patience enables us to deal with pressures of life. Endurance, or patience, through life s trials is a requirement for a Christian s spiritual maturity. We must realize that maturity is not the absence of mistakes, but a growth process of grace in our lives that happens one day at a time. Let us be encouraged on this journey; knowing that our trials are working for our good. Ephesians 5:20 reads, Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Volume 34, Issue 2 - February 2, 2014 Page 3

By: Connie Bratcher It s easy to say I love you To folks lovable and fair, But when they encounter problems, Do we really, truly care? Are we ready to lend a hand And do everything we can? Or are we too preoccupied To altar our scheduled plan? We can even say I love you To the enemy so cruel, But when he viciously attacks, Friend, do we obey this rule? If he sought to crucify us, Could we love him anyway? Could we intercede for his soul And, with a heart of love, pray? It s easy to say we love God, And we want to do His will, -Submitted by Mother Ruby Beanum But in the midst of fiery trials, Do we love our Savior still? When our world seems to fall apart, Do we still feel the same way? Do we love Him with all our heart? It s just so easy to say. May God help us to really love. 7 Freedom From Bitterness By: Chris Simpson Submitted by Bro. LeRoy Middleton Cain s Bitterness Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man. Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then the Lord said to Cain, Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it. (Genesis 4:1-7) We see in these verses the first case of bitterness in the Bible. Cain s offering of crops was rejected while his brother s offering of a slain animal was accepted. Instead of asking the Lord WHY his offering was unacceptable, he chose to be bitter and angry. He immediately assumed God was playing favorites. In truth, Cain probably felt rejected. The rejection undoubtedly entered his life when his brother was born. Such rejection of a first born child is not uncommon. After living in the center of mom and dad s universe, a first born inevitably feels rejected when number two comes along. It s important for parents to realize this and to go the extra mile to assure their child of their continued care. After Cain got angry, we see God trying to reason with Him. He wanted Cain to see what he was doing. He warned him that, unless he quickly came to his senses, sin would jump in and overcome. But what did Cain do? (And unfortunately, what do most bitter people do?) He ignored God s counsel and held on to his right to be angry! As a result, he was quickly engulfed in the sins of bitterness, resentment, and vengeance, while at the same time, oblivious to what was going on. In short order, these sins played themselves out. Let s read on: Now Cain said to his brother Abel, Let s go out to the field. And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, Where is your brother Abel? I don t know, he replied. Am I my brother s keeper? The Lord said, What have you done? Listen! Your brother s blood cries out to me from the ground. (Genesis 4:8-10) From this point on, we read of the terrible consequences that came to Cain because of choosing the way of bitterness, anger, resentment and murder: Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother s blood. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth. Cain said to the Lord, My punishment is more than I can bear. You have driven me from the land and hidden me from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me. (Genesis 4:11-14) Look at the consequences Cain s sin brought into his life: curses on his ability to make a living; a restlessness and wandering spirit (the inability to ever feel at home anywhere); a sense of despair and drivenness; the loss of God s comforting presence; and finally a feeling of paranoia - that everyone he encountered would be against him and want to kill him. Let s consider exactly what happened. After Cain felt rejected by God he chose to yield to a subtle voice telling him that God was playing favorites. Whose voice was that? None other than the voice of the serpent, who we find whispering in Eve s ear the chapter before. As Cain gave heed, the voice went on and built a case that if Abel wasn t around Cain would no longer feel rejected. The more he listened, the stronger the argument came that the ONLY recourse was to eliminate his brother. Finally, sin crouching at the door took over completely and Cain plunged the knife into his brother s heart. As he stood there with a bloody knife in his hand, God spoke to him and asked, Cain, where is your brother? Cain said, I don t know. I m not his keeper. By this point, the bitterness had worked its way deep into Cain s heart. There was no repentance. Jonah, writhing in the agony of a whale s belly, observed, Those who observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. Cain was experiencing here what Jonah finally found after his rebellion - the consequences of observing a lying vanity. He d been listening to lying voices. He forsook any possibility of mercy in his life because his pride kept him from humbling himself to God. This is always true in that we re told, God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. (James 4:6) God had to allow the consequences to come. Take note! These same consequences can happen to anyone who listens to the subtle voices of bitterness and refuses to come to God in humility. Let s look at the final result of Cain s bitterness: But the Lord said to him, Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over. Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. (Genesis 4:15) Cain s bitterness in the end brought a distinguishing mark that set him apart from those around him. Believe it or not, bitterness, in the same way, will put a mark on you! It will affect everything you do and everyone you relate to. A person with bitterness finds intimacy with others extremely difficult. Upon reflection, an embittered soul can see a string of unsatisfying and broken relationships all the way back in their life. It s like they were indeed marked for yielding to the voices of pride and bitterness in their past.
