1 Secuity Poposes A $15, Plan To Pevent Theft By NATE RABNOVCH n esponse to administative possue duing the past two yeas to educe a seious theft poblem on the Stony Book campus, campus Secuity has devised a compehensive plan to tain its offices in methods of peventing cime and educating the campus community in such pocedues. The poposal ecommends that $15, of Secuity's cuent opeating budget go towad implementation of the plan. The plan calls fo the taining of Secuity offices though numeous 6peventive pogams", as well as the establishment of a " 'ide (o walk) along pogam' to familiaize community membes with police opeations and cime vulneabilities, to povide offices with inceased oppotunities fo positive student contacts, and to enhance citizen involvement in community public safety," accoding to the plan, witten by Assistant Campus Secuity Diecto Kenth Sjolin. Though numeous seminas offeed by tained Secuity offices, and though the dissemination of witten. infomation about theft pevention, Sjolin and Campus Secuity Diecto Robet Comute hope to educate the campus community in ways to pevent theft. Limited nteest "Most College and Univesity administatos usually have a limited inteest and undestanding in...law enfocement functions," said the poposal. "Thei pimay concens ae education and eseach, and what they want, quite :fankly, is the absence of cime on campus.' Sjolin and Comute said that the poposal is an attempt to make membes of the campus community moe awae of the cime poblem on campus, and to enlist thei suppot in educing the Univesity's theft ate, which is the highest among the fou State Univesity centes. Ealie in the semeste seveal individuals fought to have bus outes established leading to the campus. One by one these outes wee discontinued until now, only one emains. f ideship doesn't significantly incease within a month the Patchogue bus will also join othes in failue. Statesman ealizes that the bus cannot continue to be un if it continues to lose excessive amounts; howeve, if ideship inceases, even though money is still being lost, the bus oute should emain. n ode to incease ideship, the fae should be educed to make it moe competitive with the Coam Bus. Publicity should be stepped up to make people moe awae of the sevice and schedules should be posted. The Univesity should also look into estoation of the two defunct bus systems as well. The combination of bette publicity, in addition to the cold weathe and impending gas shotage should make these outes moe feasible. While slam has a compelling splendo in many ways, thee is along with this, a poud uthlessness. The Shiite sect especially eflects this aspect. But then even befoe Mohammed, anpesia, its histoy ich in civilization, was a land devoted to tuning acts of monstous cuelty into something of an at fom. egad to the Shah, he was ou good fiend fo ove thee decades. We betayed hi by not helping him enough, and when his egime finally collapsed, we betayed him futhe by not offeing pemanent sanctuay. The Cate Administation obediently heeded the "wanings" of the Ayatollah mi a pathetic attempt to win him ove. Goveling, they ignoed his hated of all things westen. They shipped him spae pats fo weapony, and gain and efined oil. They pomised like good little boys, not to send ams to the Kuds. All to no avail. Big Daddy just didn't cotten to them. Neve did. Why couldn't they SEE? Of couse duing the Shah's eign, the secet police was given to excess, but then what police foce in a volatile non democacy is much diffeent? As autocat, the Shah was no wose than any othe MidEast ule, pehaps in many ways moe enlightened. He kept Voltaie on his bookshelves, didn't he? To compae him to a Hitle is to succumb to the iational antings of his enemies. The Ayatollah spings moe eadily to mind when it comes to Hitle. The Shah's cime consists lagely of liking the West. Death to the Shah is simply shothand fo Death to the West. The fomal photogaphs of him and his family esemble nothing so much as those of nineteenth centuy Euopean oyalty. As if he wanted that to be his tue setting. He tied to bing his county into the twentieth centuy. All that lage scale industialization was a mistake appaently. He was exobitantly wealthy. So what else is new? mean is thee anywhee a eigning monach who isn't? Wealth goes with the teitoy. And why lump Savak's shootings into ampaging cowds with the executions committed unde the holy auspices of Khomeini? When you'e pat of a ampaging cowd in a county enowned fo its tiggehappy police, should you logically be much supised at unpleasant consequences? s this in the same categoy as the cuent widespead killing of minoities, suspected Shah suppotes, businessmen, adultees (o is it meely adulteesses?), postitutes, homosexuals? Repots have it that even an 18yeaold pegnant gil in love (just that!) with a man not he husband died befoe a fiing squad. What a bave new ode these zealots and thei easily manipulated mobs ae foming! How can a nation that wants along with the death of its deposed king, doom fo Sadat (the geat and good Sadat and Baktia and Cate as well? And has anyone seen poo Bazagan lately? O BaniSad? How excessively meciful the Shah was in not having that deadful little mullah done in while he had the chance! found Benjamin Joseph's ealie aticles on the plight of tle Palestinians highly pesuasive in many ways (Mitch Cohen's too), yet if anything seves to damatize sael's situation, this an debacle does. now accept fa moe easily the saeli custom of swift etaliation to teoist attack. Ameica, too, once the hostages ae out, must etaliate, o have a pecedent set fo futhe outages. And Ameica must esolve to be stong again, and loyal to allies. This wondeful land shouldn't meely suvive, it should pevail. The theat of wa looms when we peceive ouselves as weak and poweless. And the villians of ou age ae Pol Pot, Amin, Quaddafi, the Agentinian Govenment, not the beleagued Shah! Stony Book enteed Cabot, Sadowski, Nelkin and Loud. Thei total time was 2:25.6 By ALAN OLSEN Ovewhelming a stong Booklyn College squad, the Stony Book Men's Swimming Team opened its league schedule Satuday in Booklyn, finishing on top of a 7637 lopsided scoe. The win, boosting the Patiot's season ecod to 21, came as no supise to Coach John DeMaie, confident of a stong victoy. "' knew thei (Booklyn's) times," DeMaie said shotly afte the dual meet, "and we had them well scouted." The stength of the Kingsmen came in swimmes John Platt, Bill Muay, and Randy Newman, and dive James Jemott; Booklyn's potential lying in thei individual pefomances. The fou exceeded thei expectations in taking six fist place finishes out of a possible 13 events. Yet, the balance and depth of the Stony Book swimmes poved too stong fo thei Booklyn ivals. Swimming as a team, the Pats capitalized on thei depth. The fist event of the meet was the Medly Relay, with both clubs acing a team of fou and each swimme going 1 yads combining the fou stokes. The Pats had the winning combination with Bobby Black in the backstoke, Bobby Hamlett in the beaststoke, Bian Wycoff in the buttefly, and Cut Beutle in the feestyle.
