We are not a bar. We are not a shooting/ sports club. We are Elks! I have challenged you and some have taken me up on this but most have not. Your dues are not enough to support the Lodge. We have taxes, heat, electric, telephone, internet and repairs to name a few. So then you ask how do we get the money? We have functions like the Sunday breakfast, Friday night dinners, Pig Roast, End Of Summer Bash to name a few. We rent the hall and pavilion. Your support can be as easy as attending one or more of these events. It could be volunteering to cook a Friday night dinner or run a function such as a game dinner, Halloween party, New Year s party and so on. We need to upgrade the kitchen and hall bathrooms. We need to raise money to do this. A Special Thank You As Elks we support our community. Did you know that the only one who gives out more money in scholarships than the Elks is the US Government? Speaking of scholarships it is that time of year so if you have children or grandchildren who are High School Seniors make sure they apply for an Elks scholarship. There is the soccer shoot, hoop shoot drug awareness, Americanism programs to name a few. They are all supported by the Elks National Foundation. I encourage you to make your tax deductible donation. I wish to thank the House Committee for a good job on the End Of Summer Bash. I wish to thank the Golf Committee and all who helped to make it a great success. I wish to thank the following for helping out at the Lodge Soccer Shoot. Greg Crucitti, Tom Wieleba, and Paul Labie- Mon. Thur. 4 PM 8 PM Friday 4 PM 10 PM Saturday Noon 9 PM Sunday Noon 7 PM Permittee: Mark Hudak glastonburyelks.org niec of our Lodge and Jake Parsons of Windsor Lodge. Additionally, George Gilhuly, state district Chairman for helping setup. Sunday breakfast is back and so is Sunday Trap Shooting. So come for breakfast, shoot some trap and stop by for Sunday lunch. Elk of the Month Michael Dondi Mike stepped up to run this year s successful Pig Roast. He was up from 4:30AM to put the pigs on, an up well after 10PM making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Then back up again before 7AM finishing the cleaning. Mike, you have the place of honor! Fraternally, Vinnie Alianiello, PER Exalted Ruler The Glastonbury Elks would like to thank Botticello Farms for their donations this year once again for the corn they provided FREE OF CHARGE to the Steak and Lobster, Pig Roast and End of Summer Bash. We d also like to thank Dave and Jodi Poulin for arranging the donation. We will be creating a plague to provide to the farm for their donations. This is not the first year they ve done this!

We will not be closing the breakfast at 10:00, yet simply have a time frame for volunteers to gage if new items are needed for the buffet in hopes of saving some inventory. I N D O O R W I N T E R B O A T S T O R A G E M a n c h e s t e r, C T Call Bill Wolfe for rates (860) L e a v e a m e s s a g e From the s Desk Happy October all! I would like to first apologize for anyone not receiving s (I hope you get this one?!). Apparently the last two Upstart s were not received by some. I am confused as I did receive mine, hence I am thinking all are receiving it. The program I use is part of the membership package from the Grand Lodge. As of April 1, 2014 our annual membership report to the Grand Lodge indicated a total of 618 members. As of September 30, 2014 we ve had a gain of 42, and a loss of 3 with a total of 657. This does not include the 72 members who have yet to pay. I stress yet again, I am only human and I make mistakes. If you have paid, and have not received your card, more than likely you ll be showing as delinquent. I will be sending second notices to delinquent members within the next few weeks. Many of you may have seen we have two vacant elected officer positions. Per Grand Lodge Statutes the Exalted Ruler indicated at the last meeting Nominations will be opened at the next meeting. Elections to fill vacancies will take place at the next regular meeting after said order. This will be the meeting of October 22nd. Propositions For Membership Golf Tournament - Thank you! For those of you who played in the recent golf tournament, you know what a gorgeous day we had. You couldn t have asked for better weather. First and foremost, I would like to thank all the raffle sponsors as well as the hole sponsors, unfortunately there is not enough room, and I d hate to miss one or two of you. We will be, as we did last year, sending out thank you letters directly to you. The golf committee would ask you patronize the local establishments who made the event a great success! Additionally to all the golfers who participated not in only the round of golf, but also adding some $1600 to the bottom line through purchasing raffle and 50/50 tickets. Finally, I d be remiss if I neglected to thank the volunteers who worked so hard prior to the event as well as on the day of the event: Dave and Jodi Poulin, Carl Lavoie, Tom Wieleba, Hugh Meadows, Michael Perleoni, Louise Beeghly, Dennis Claffey, PDD, Tom Harkins, Marsha Parsons, Peggy Smith, and my wife Carole. Thomas Herzog Golf Chairman The s Office has received an application on the following individuals, read their names on the floor of our Lodge. Any member knowing why any of these candidates should not be duly elected to membership, should notify a member of the Investigation Committee or one of the Lodge Officers.
