1 Sand Springs Elks News Sand Springs Elks Lodge #2553 Volume 1, Issue 4 July 2009 Letter from the Exalted Ruler Hello Everybody, It s that time again for a little communication to you out there in Elkdom. I would like to start off by asking that all our thoughts and prayers go out to Roy Lemaster in his time of need. Also Nora you hurry and get well and come back to see us, and Gary Slagel, you get all healed up from your accident and come back to visit. We miss ya! I would like to thank Susan Tallchief for representing our Lodge this year in Portland at the Grand Lodge Convention as Darla and I will not be making the trip. We had a good turn out for the Clean Up Day. Thanks to all that came out and helped. I didn t get there until after 9:00 am and they had filled that big dumpster, cleaned all the back up and had the old fence down. This was supposed to start at 10:00am, but by then it was about done. Thanks again! Also I want to thank the ladies for their help in getting the kitchen cleaned up and things squared away. Our Friday night Steak Night Dinner was very good. The ladies again did a great job! We want this to be an every Friday night thing so come out and support this and all our functions. We have a Motorcycle Poker Run coming up this month so come have some fun! Also coming up is our Lake Poker Run and then the Bass Tournament, so watch your newsletter and mark your calendar. We had a really nice turn out for Flag Day, one of the most in attendance in quite some time, so thanks to all you folks that came out. Donnie Wall did a great job setting up and showing the flags. The hospitality from Dennis and Denise afterward was appreciated and the fish was great! We are going to start serving some food items in the lounge through the week so look for the small menu cards that will be placed around the bar in the lounge. Family Day on Sunday was a nice time and the weather cooperated. If you didn t make it out watch for the next time, bring the family and come see us. Once again I must say, Come out to see us, Bring a friend, Then make them a member! MEMBERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP!!!!! Exalted Ruler Mike Ramsey Special Events: July 10 Steak Night 7-8:30 pm July 19 Family Dinner 2 pm July 24 Steak Night 7-8:30 pm July 25 Birthday & Anniversary Remember only one Lodge Meeting in July Sand Springs Elks News Articles Please or drop in the box by the 20th of the month. to: sselks_newsletter@hughes.net Lodge Meetings : Trustee House Committee Elks Meeting 7/21 6:30 pm 7/21 7:00 pm 7/28 7:00 pm
2 Page 2 WOW! Here it is time for another news letter. Seems as though every time I turn around; the Editor is asking me for another letter. I believe that every month is either getting shorter or is going by faster! Well enough of my whining and crying. Our first "Family Dinner" in years was in my opinion a huge success. Donnie cooked about 2 dozen hot dogs and 40 hamburgers; I believe that there were about 3 or 4 of each left. There were lots of good ELKS, people, and fellowship; we even got an applicant for membership, who I think will make a good ELK. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it a success and to all those who attended, after all it takes both to make a function a success. "STEAK-NITE What can I say, another big turn-out. We had a very good meal with a lot of good ELKS. I saw and visited with ELKS that I had not seen in years, I was sure proud to have them back at #2553. Spread the word the ELKS at #2553 are having fun. Come out join in, see old friends, and meet new ones. A special thanks to all the Ladies that made "STEAK-NITE' a big success. When you see them, take a second or two to let them know how much you appreciate them. Also don't forget that there are other nights and days when fun can be had at the lodge, Monday night FUN-NITE", Wednesday night "PITCH", and Fridays "LUCKY LADY". If any of you ELKS, spouses, children, or friends have an idea for an activity, or for the lodge, please bring it up. Because this is an ELKS LODGE and the members control and run the lodge by speaking out and voicing their opinion. So come out to the meetings and participate in running your lodge. Well I guess that you have heard enough of my drivel for a few days so until next month. Think and act like an ELK, and stay safe and healthy. Brad Ludolph Hi Everyone, Just a quick note to say how exciting it is to see all the support and involvement we have been getting on our lodge activities. It s great to see everyone coming out to help and support our lodge. We ve had a great time. Granted, it can be a lot of hard work but it s worth it when everyone gets together and enjoys themselves. Nothing better than good friends getting to together for good times! Here s a little story I came across I thought was a very good inspiration to all and wanted to share it with you TWO WOLVES One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is EVIL. It is anger, envy, jealously, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is GOOD. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: Which wolf wins? The old Cherokee simply replied, The one you feed. Pretty much says it all doesn t it? Darla Ramsey

4 Roy Lemaster was recently presented a plaque and an engraved gold watch in appreciation for his 30+ years of service to the Sand Springs Elks Lodge #2553. Although he was unable to attend the presentation ceremony, several fellow Elks and Friends were present in his honor. Donnie Wall went to visit him and presented the awards to him in his home. Roy has always been a model Elk, always here to do the best he could to benefit the Elks association. He has always put our lodge first, giving his valuable time and energy into everything that is Elky. We congratulate Roy on his years of service in the many offices he has held and thank him dearly for his devotion to this organization as a whole, and especially the time he spent as a chairman of the many activities that he was involved in for this lodge. He has always been dedicated to the goodwill of the youths of our area, making them a high priority in his life. We congratulate you Roy for all your hard work, dedication, time and energy that you have given to make this such a successful lodge. No words can describe how much our Scribe is missed! Would love to see you any day at the lodge. As you have always said, and we as Elks will always remember: Thank you sincerely, Stay Elky!! Members of the Sand Springs Elks Lodge # 2553

If you are a parent, grandparent or custodian of an elementary aged student or are an elementary school teacher please notify the lodge with the name, grade, and contact information for the teacher so that we may distribute funds needed on the supplies for the upcoming school year. It takes a village to raise a child. - African Proverb A great big THANK YOU goes to the Monday and Wednesday night cooks! The food is always great. Same goes to the dishwashers. You are all very much appreciated! Lodge Clean Up day was a huge success, just one problem someone threw a perfectly good Elk in the dumpster!! This, then, is the state of the union: free and restless, growing and full of hope. So it was in the beginning.
