1 August KOC Knightly News Volume 2, Number 8 AUGUST EVENT CALENDAR 1st GENERAL MEETING 4th ADORATION 11th ADORATION 18th ADORATION 22nd OFFICER MEETING 25th ADORATION MEETING FOR AUGUST 8/1/16 MEET AT 7 P.M. IN MIKESCH HALL (MARY S ROOM)
2 FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT... Dear Brother Knights. I want to give a call out as I did at the officers meeting last night to all who continue to support our events of Charity for the groups we support. We had a great turn out and a lot of work by many Ladies and Knights. I want to give special thanks to John Butler and all who helped cook in the heat and did a great job on quality meals served. From this change over last season we helped to raise more for the Fisher House. This is a great group that supports our veterans! Next the great turn out we had was at our Blood drive which we had more people that we could take do to the increase of donors. We will be addressing this with Red Cross to see if we can get an extra table in the future. Again we always need Knights to help out with this event. Again, few have done most of the effort here. Let s see some new faces from our Knights as we support a very import cause for our nation s needs. Tee off for Kids Annual Golf tournament is coming up Sept 17 at the Bluffs Golf course. We continue to need door prizes and volunteers to work the event. Just as a reminder to all, this is our most important event we do for our council and our support for Cardinal Glennon s Children Hospital. Next we all have received our Raffle tickets. Let s try and sell what we received. If we need more we have some extras Our General meeting is coming up next Monday, August 1 st. The meeting commences at 7 p.m. in Mary s room. At this meeting, I will discuss the needs of the council to fill open positions of need. We need to get someone to take over the soccer concession and some of the Director openings. We will have all the available openings at the meeting. Please consider about helping us to fill these positions that are very import for the projects of the council. The only thing I ask is if you sign up, I expect the person to be a part of our monthly general meetings. Moving forward these Knights should be able to help Bob Maryas manage all the programs we do each year... Thanks for all your efforts and Support! God Bless the council and all of our members! 4 FOM OUR LECTURER... Mike Eisenbath expresses how I feel about several things (like family, eternity, and gifts of more stuff) way better than I can. I suspect many of you share at least a part of his thoughts. John MAN OF THE HOUSE Be there now and in heaven SUBMITTED ON JUNE 23, 2016 By Mike Eisenbath My family's celebration of Father's Day was nice. Pizza and wings for dinner with my dad, my daughter Jessica, my son Josh and my two grandsons. One of those grandsons, 8-year-old Colin, treated me in a special way with a triple and home run in his ballgame Sunday evening. I also received a greeting card with Snoopy on the front. What more does a man need? I don't really need gifts, not for any holiday. The last thing I crave is more stuff. What I most want from my family for Father's Day or Christmas, my birthday or whenever can't be found in any store. What I want won't affect anyone's bank account or add clutter to my house.it's a plain, humble gift. More an appeal than a physical present, actually. It's a request both uncomplicated and complex at the same time, a plea I make to my wife and children and grandsons, but also to my extended family and most treasured friends. Be there. The desire has special significance concerning my immediate family especially my kids and grandkids. "Be there" incorporates a whole bunch of things: be there for Sunday evening family dinners, be there with us at Mass on Christmas Day and Easter morning, be there at family celebrations and funerals.and when life here on earth ends for us, when I'm, God-willing, enjoying the beatific vision of God in heavenly paradise please, be there. Emotion overwhelms me as I think about what I'm asking. When I ponder heaven, I find myself musing on a life that would encompass perfect happiness. My feeble, human mind imagines what that might entail and must resort only to comparisons with what is familiar. I recall inspiring moments in Mass and receiving the Eucharist. I relive supernatural prayer experiences. Such spiritual memories have given me a brief taste of paradise in God's presence. I also recall time spent surrounded by the love of friends. And I bask in recollections of pure happiness surrounded by family. Indeed, even the most common of evenings eating at a dining room table surrounded by Donna and kids and sons-in-law and grandsons could that also be a snippet of the joy I will know for eternity? My family, you must be there. Countless writers have penned countless words concerning what that "heavenly paradise" truly will be and provided directions on how to spend eternity there. I have my own ideas: seeing God face-to-face but not with human eyes, rather with an understanding and comprehension that are virtually impossible in this physical world, and knowing complete union with God. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1024) states: "This perfect life with the Most Holy Trinity this communion of life and love with the Trinity, with the Virgin Mary, the angels and all the blessed is called 'heaven.' Heaven is the ultimate end and fulfillment of the deepest human longings, the state of supreme, definitive happiness." As for how to get there, not all Christians agree on the formula. Still, all faith traditions hold that it isn't an achievement, that it requires much more than being a good, nice person and leading a "Christian life." As Catholics, we learn that it involves receiving the gift of grace from God and then cooperating with that grace, that it involves repentance, faith and baptism and confession if you sin. To be there, my sons and daughters, grandsons and friends, you will need to be saints. You will need to be a genuine friend of Christ. See? Uncomplicated, yet complex. I know that many among my loved ones aren't convinced of all this. They haven't yet embraced what I know, in my soul, to be truth. I haven't completely come to fathom and embrace complete truth myself. God continues to reveal more to me. All in God's time, I understand, and not in my time. So I guess I actually have two gift requests. Open your hearts to God's revelations; never stop seeking truth. Once you have found it, well... Be there, in heaven. Please. 7 Information From The 4th Degree I am your council s liaison to the Holy Spirit Assembly I would like to invite all 4th Degree members to join the new Holy Spirit Assembly located here in West County if you haven t already done so. We currently have 271 members. We hold our meetings on the 4th Wednesday of each month. The meeting commences at 7 p.m. As the patriotic arm of the Knights Of Columbus, we give back to our military personnel by working our Assembly s assigned shift at the Lambert St. Louis Airport USO on the 1st and 5th Sunday s from 6 p.m. to Midnight. This shift is solely manned only by our assembly s knights and wives. Volunteers may work the whole shift or any portion of the shift. I can personally vouch for how rewarding it is to give back to our service personnel.. Please contact Doug Brown at if you would like to help.
