Greetings Fellow Members: At my last report, our Exalted Ruler Don Schlegel and our First Lady Eunice are still in Mesa, Arizona enjoying the sun shine and warm weather. They should be heading back to Wisconsin soon. I hope that they have a safe trip home and the best of luck to them when they get there. We will be looking forward to you coming back for the Installation of Officers. With the Holidays behind us, January seemed kind of quiet, and the Lodge got back to normal, (what ever normal is). Lodge meetings on the first and third Tuesdays, Bingo every Thursday with a great dinner, and if you have not made it to a Friday night dinner, you have no idea what you are missing. The Kitchen staff has done an excellent job of preparing our dinner, and all I see are happy and satisfied faces. February started out with a bang, with the Super Bowl party. A great time was had by all, with excellent food and a great atmosphere for a party. I hope that you are happy with your team, it was a great game. Thank You to the Party Staff. You did a Great job! A big Thank You goes out to Tina Teeples and all of her help for putting on a fantastic Member Daughter Night. I am really envious that I do not have a daughter or a granddaughter so that I could have participated at a different level. While I am giving out Thank You's I cannot forget Gary Nelson. Gary and his crew did a superb job with the Sweetheart Ball. The big band music was a huge hit, and Gary's grandsons did a great job in the kitchen. After the big band was finished our DJ Chris Thomas rocked us with his great sound system. Thanks' Chris! On February the 8 th I held an Executive Meeting, and we came up with a couple of ideas to help the Lodge get through these tough economic times. But the members need to know that nothing will be done with out their approval. Continued on page 6 1

5 March 2009 Monday Night Football Oops! The Monday Night Football Committee would like to extend a big thank you to Eli Thompson and Tammy Beck for all their hard work during the Football season. Grab your family, friends, and neighbors, and come out to a great night of entertainment, and I am sure some incredible food. In closing I would like to quote our Esteemed Loyal Knight: You have sworn to support the Constitution and comply with the Laws of this Order and the BY-Laws of this Lodge. Justice requires that your observance of that Obligation should be full and complete. Should you feel at any time that these rights have been invaded, the courts of the Order are open to you. 6 March 2009 Ladies of Elks March, 2009 D e a r Ladies a n d Members: March has alw a y s been a favorite month of mine. It has something to do with it being my birthday month. (Which I think is a great month for a birthday no other really big holidays this month and enough time between holidays to make a birthday a treat!) I was born in the early spring of a year that had one of the biggest blizzards that Utah had seen. The snow piled up in front of my grandparent s house was almost a tall as their roof. They worried that my dad would not be able to get out to take my mom to the hospital when the time came. But, as my mom says, It was stormy the night I was born and just after a loud thunder clap there I was. She claims that I have been going like thunder ever since. Final nominations and voting for officers for will be held at our March meeting. The officers nominated at the February meeting are: President Mary Belvedere 1st Vice Ana Belvedere 2nd Vice Judy Johnson Treasurer Linda Gaines Parliamentarian Peggy Reay Historian Gracemarie Goette Auditor LaRita Juber Please come and vote for these ladies and let them know that you support their willingness to serve you as LOE officers next year. Sickness and Distress: Teri Van Patten is up and around after her second knee replacement. We hope to see her at our March Meeting. Tinamarie Teeples will have to have further surgery on her finger to remove cancer cells. It might mean losing her entire finger. Ada Nelson is up and back to work after back surgery. She is glad to be out of the pain of having pinched nerves in her back. We send our love to Kathy Lewis after the death of her dad, Dell Fowler. We will miss Dell at our LOE yard sales and other meetings. He was always so willing to lend a hand for LOE events. On Monday, February 9th, the Lodge held its annual Father- Daughter Date. Although this is a Lodge event, our own Tinamarie Teeples was in charge and asked the LOE to support it by serving the dinner to the guests. Thank you to Tinamarie, Mary Belvedere, June Hinckley, Geri Kay, Ada Nelson and Kathy Lewis for coming out and volunteering for this project. It was a really fun night and the daughters, fathers and other guests all had a great time. Our February meeting was also our Past President s recognition dinner. We were delighted to have the Past LOE Presidents come and enjoy the evening with us. We missed having Maxine Thurston with us for this meeting, but know she is enjoying the warmth and sun in St. George. President 1st Vice 2nd Vice 3rd Vice Secretary Historian Treasurer Chaplain Parliamentarian Auditor Membership Project Chair Visitation Board Member Board Member Board Member Board Member Linda Gaines Mary Belvedere Gracemarie Goette Eunice Schlegel Tinamarie Teeples Ada Nelson Teri Van Patten LaRita Juber Eileen Evans Linda Gaines Peggy Gleason-Reay Mary Belvedere Kathy Lewis Shirley Cross Bertha Brenenstall Christine Martinez Our dinner committee for the March meeting is June Hinckley, Teri Van Patten and Shirley Cross. We are working to arrange for a visit from a U of U student who received an Elks National Foundation Scholarship to go to school. She is a Junior at University of Utah and has offered to come and speak to us about her education experience and the Elks Scholarship program. As the Lodge Scholarship chairman, I know that this is something we can all be very proud of. I am looking forward to meeting her and hearing what she has to say. Remember that the April meeting will be the installation of the new officers. Please plan on attending. It seems like the only members that attend this meeting are being installed as officers and it would be nice to have an audience for this important ceremony. In these hard economic times, changes have to be made. Often these changes are unpleasant. But in order to survive, sacrifices have to be made. As the Lodge works through its financial problems, remember that it is with the support of the members that we move forward. Changes in prices, hours and activities are looming on the horizon for the Lodge and if we don t bite the bullet we might find ourselves L.O.E. Meeting Times L.O.E. Board Meeting First Wednesday at 6:30 pm L.O.E. Meetings on Second Wednesday 6:30 Gather and 7:00 Meeting Drawing $1.00 and $8.00 L.O.E. Activities March 18th LOE Music Competition April 8th Installation of Officers for without a Lodge building or even a Lodge Charter. I encourage all members and ladies to look at the end result and support the changes so that we can come out of the recession strong and moving forward. There are many things that we can do on a shoestring budget that work very well and still provide unique opportunities for service, fun and money raising that will support our charities and still encourage our brotherhood as Elks in Provo. As spring arrives, may we all remember that life is a cycle and spring brings warmth and new life that has been sleeping during the winter. I am ready for Spring! Sincerely, Linda Gaines, L. O. E.. President I believe there are Angels among us... To guide us with a light of love. 3
