2 Dear Parishioners, FJB s Blog Today is the Feast of the Holy Rosary. While we will not celebrate it per se since it is on a Sunday, it is still the feast. The rosary is a wonderful way to give order to our prayer and reflect on the major events of Jesus and Mary s life. They help us to stay focused on the mysteries of the rosary and nurturing our relationship with Christ. It is interesting to know that the rosary was first prayed by farmers who would hear the monks in the monasteries praying the 150 Psalms. They wanted to participate, so they were encouraged to pray 150 prayers Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be. Then we know the Blessed Mother encouraged it as a form of prayer to St. Dominic. At this parish we have a group of parishioners who pray the Rosary at 11:30 am on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, 8:30 am on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday and 9 am on Saturday. Please plan on joining them if you are able. We have several newer items in the church vestibule to help you grow in knowledge of your faith. We have our library from which you can take a book on the honor system, read it and return it when you are through. We have free books, CD s and materials from Dynamic Catholic that are yours to take and are free. Finally we have a rack of books, cd s, and brochures that are yours to keep for a small donation. All three of these are great opportunities to grow in your faith knowledge and grow closer to Christ in your love and acceptance of him as your Lord and Savior. This weekend we anoint our brothers and sisters who are suffering physically, emotionally and/or spiritually. We lift them up in prayer and ask God s continued blessing upon them all. If there is ever anything Frs. Thom, Tim or I can do for you please let us know. This week is the annual Convocation for priests of our Diocese. We will be gathering with Bishop Perez and all of our brother priests to pray together, reflect on our ministry and our call to service, and spend some fraternal time together. The gathering is from Tuesday evening through Friday morning. Fr. Tim and I will be attending. Fr. Thom has graciously offered to stay at the parish so we can continue to have daily Mass as well as cover for any emergencies and funerals. I ask that you keep the priests in your prayers. This is a difficult time for ALL CATHOLICS, but for priests we face our own failings, sinfulness and that of our brother priests and bishops. We reflect on that, beg God s mercy on us through our genuine repentance and ask his Grace to move forward in the light of Christ. Make it a great week! See you in Church. Peace, Fr. John From now November 4, you re invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You re also invited to stand and peacefully pray anytime between 7 am to 7 pm during the 40-day vigil in the public right-ofway outside Preterm Shaker Blvd, Cleveland, or Planned Parenthood Rockside Rd, Bedford Heights, 44146, or Family Planning - 54 South State St, Painesville, Plan to join us at the Kickoff Rally at Holy Rosary Church on September 25 at 7PM with Fr. This new film highlights the fall-out of the 1960s cultural changes in light of the Catholic Church s prophetic teaching in the 1968 document Humanae Vitae on marriage, sex, parenthood and birth control. The groundbreaking film also examines the parallel development of the Pill and Natural Family Planning. The movie was inspired by the true-life story of recording artist and pro-choice feminist Alana Newman, a young woman born by anonymous donor conception. Searching for the truth about her biological father leads to a profound conversion when she discovers Humanae Vitae and Theology of the Body. The film features interviews with Dr. Janet Smith, Helen Alvaré, Dr. Peter Kreeft, Christopher West, Abby Johnson, Archbishop Charles Chaput, and the doctors who developed modern Natural Family Planning. Sexual Revolution will be shown free of charge at Cedar Lee theater in Cleveland Heights on Sunday, October 21 at 4 pm and at Holy Rosary Church on Mayfield Road in Cleveland on Tuesday, October 23 at 7 pm with discussion afterward. Womankind Annual Baby Bottle Collection Baby bottles will be distributed on the weekend of October 6 th & 7 th and collected on the weekend of November 3 rd & 4 th in support of Womankind. Since 1975, Womankind Maternal and Prenatal Care Center has provided hope, help and possibility to women and families. Free prenatal care, counseling and other support services are offered. Please fill each bottle with change or cash and return them in Church on the dates listed above. Bottles may also be returned to the parish office. Thank you! Co-sponsored by Ss. Robert & William and St. John of the Cross In what areas of your life do you still need to grow? God has a calling and purpose for each one of us. Please join us for a talk and discussion about how to refocus on what truly matters, and how to discover our own dignity to lead lives of lasting purpose. No experience necessary, just come as you are for some coffee and see what Walking with Purpose is all about. No commitment necessary for Connect Coffees, but registration is required for the 22 week study to ensure you have a study guide. Thursday, October 18th * 7:30-9pm * SRW Upper Hall
